Pacific Rim - Part 6

You know Marvin, that could all just be the novelization writer and not necessarily the original script.

^Yeah, the novelisation is often different from both the movie and the original script so I dont think you can compare them.

I get that fine.
Just saying it was an awesome read.
Yea the novel writer mostly works off of the script...kinda like the director, in a way it's like a different director but with a crap ton more characterization and expositional opportunities.

The Hong Kong fight from Chucks mental perspective was swell. Just knowing he appreciates how much of a disadvantage the mark 3's are at compared to his...then him recognizing the maneuvers being done and whose doing them..
Just how much the wall builders resent the jeager stuff, and vice versa.
Just what happened to Herc's family and why his son resents him..

The other countries Jeager teams being under developed is still an issue but at least you get more than the film. The best part for me being when the Russians: "We are going to fight, but not with them" Pertaining to the hong kong fight and gypsy team.

Mako's family being sword makers and her being a daughter shamed them...then gypsy with the sword. Just so much lost in film, sometimes it makes me wonder why bother.

Either way, I appreciate the story and concept all the more now.

Now I agree the movie could've used some fleshing out.

The other Jaeger pilots in the big battles didn't really get to to do much. Crimson Typhoon and Cherno I wish got to do more in their fights before they got smoked because they were such cool designs.

Finally saw this last night. Holy ****, I loved it so much :awesome:. I have some issues with the third act's predictability and some questions regarding Newt's Drift with the Kaiju. Other than that, this is a fantastic film.

What I love the most about this film? It is a classic anime mecha brought to life. It very much reminds me of mecha animes likes Gundam, Evangelion, and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Everything about it - the premise, acting, the way it is filmed, the characters, the humor - is all very anime inspired.

This film should be studied by anyone in Hollywood that wants to adapt an anime or manga into a live-action film. It also gives me hope of one day seeing my favorite anime - Gurren Lagann - being turned into a film.

Wonderful work, Del Toro.

That would have been an awesome addition i'll admit, would have been another nice little thing for Mako' arc but in fairness that was still very good in the movie. The rest I dont see how it could make it into the movie without the movie being at least 150 mins. I would have liked to see more from the other Jaegers and crews as well but there wasnt time because Raleigh, Mako and Stacker had to be fleshed out.

I get how the movie can be polorizing, I personally think it's serviceable but the goings on during the novelization really turned me onto what this film was trying to do. A shame really. Really dug this book.

Judging from the comic he wrote, a lot of what Travis Beacham was trying to do in terms of character depth and such never really made it to the screen. I mean he seems happy with how the film came out, but honestly he seems like a better writer than the end products of any of his scripts tend to indicate.

Well I'd start with more filmmakers employing voice over or narration in subtle ways.

Films like Shawshank and even SinCity owe alot of their narrative experience to such direction. Goodfellas and American Hustle even do it in ways.

I'd recommend the novel to any one who enjoyed the movie. One is more than likely to watch the film again, why not read a more encompassing version instead. That's how I convinced myself anyways.

^I may read the novelisation at some point, I have done it for some other movies I have liked in the past. I love PR as it is though and thats not going to change.

Hopefully, you will let me know when you do.

^Well it will be a while yet, currently making my way through the Dark Tower books, maybe after those I will read PR if I can find it.

It amazes me the things people build.

Someone should definitely make a classic style costumes-cardboard version of the Hong Kong battle.

I enjoyed Pacific Rim very much. It gave me a feeling I don't get very often, you know, pain and numbness in the left arm:yay: just kidding, I'm thinking of the feeling I got when I as a little kid and watched movies...the sense of wonder, fun and excitement. Why can't more movies be like that?:csad:

^Why cant they indeed, this is the perfect movie to bring out your inner child, I feel like a little kid all the way through and I mean that in a good way. A lot of the action is awe-inspiring and the monsters and kaiju are characters in themselves. Love this movie.

This is why I love Cosplayers. I've seen Gundams and Transformers that are just as impressive.

The SHH! Movie Award nominations have begun!

Head to the SHH! Movie Award boards to nominate the best of 2013 in my sig!

^Thats what I love about GDT, he is one of the few directors who only uses CGI when necessary. Of course, this movie needed a lot of it, but the amount of practical effects he uses in his movies is what helps sell the CGI in them.

Side note: Pacific Rim won best Animated Effects in a Live Action Film at the Annie Awards, because you know, some people make sense.

No surprise there, if it wasnt for Gravity I think PR would be a shoe-in for visual effects at the oscars, but Gravity was amazing in that regard.

For anyone who collects NECA's Pacific Rim toys, here's a poll where you can vote for which kaiju and jaegers you'd like to see next. You can vote for up to 3 options. It's a fan poll, not from NECA. But hopefully NECA will take the results into consideration.
