Pacific Rim - Part 6

I'm watching the sequel right nao and I can attest to that. The fight scenes in the sequel feel soulless and completely devoid of any heft. While I can not say I dislike the Bayformers lite daylight action scenes in Uprising (I quite like them actually) but the atmosphere is sorely missing.

It cannot be overstated how well Del Toro uses atmospheric elements to accentuate the fight. The persistent rain, the darkness and the ripples of rain/ocean water streaming out of their bodies.

Try to imagine the same scenes in dry daylight and they seem duller to say the least.

I could not agree with this statement more. Del Toro has always been top notch when it comes to creating atmosphere. That is one of the main reasons why I love Mimic from 1997 so much because not only does it have awesome, practical creature designs, but the atmosphere and tension in that movie combined with just the utter nastiness and eeriness of the sewers and the alleys is great IMO and I still to this day don't understand why its one of his most underrated and underappreciated films. His attention to detail is amazing and is something most directors would not know how to utilize unless they had his level of talent.

Dude, your post inspired me to watch this and damn, that was a blast. I thought this was boring last time I watched it. I preferred the Bayformers lite sequel more than this one but f**king hell this movie is awesome. I don't know why it didn't work before but pretty much everything lined up for me this time.

Hunnam was good, not great but he gets the job done as the lead. I re-watched Jurassic World yesterday and I had similar feelings towards Owen (Pratt's character) that he wasn't charismatic enough to carry the movie. But I think I have changed my mind on both. They made me care and that's all that matters.

I also thought Elba's Marshall was not up-to the mark before but again his was another role which I misjudged.

Rinko Kikuchi was really very good too. The research team duo of Charlie Day and the other guy (his name escapes me) were fun and Perlman's Chau was hilarious.

That's awesome Blitz so glad you watched it again and enjoyed it more. I love this movie, it's not high art but it's a damn fun and entertaining movie and I really wish GDT could have made a franchise out of this.

The vibes between the first and second movie are so different its crazy. The second did suck but the first wasn't revolutionary ethier. I think the public would have been more invested if pacific rim tied to godzilla and king kong and eventually crossed over.
