The Amazing Spider-Man Percy Jackson's Logan Lerman in Early Talks for Spider-Man

Haha, Yes go all the way back to the stone ages of Spider-Man where for all of maybe 10 issues (I know the Ditko period was slightly longer than that but still as was said above short.) he looked like that. He's more traditionally drawn looking somewhere in this area:

Steve Ditko is the exception to the rule.

Ditko is the rule. He co-created the character. Plus, John Romita didn't exactly make the character less dopey-looking. He just made it less cartoony. Face it. Peter Parker is a geeky-looking dude. That's how Stan Lee and Ditko wanted the character to look. Nowadays, artists make Peter Parker more handsome, so readers could enjoy the process of pretending to be him as they read the latest issue.

I think people who cast these dopey looking guys like Yelchin and Gordon-Levitt as Peter have never picked up a Spider-Man book in their lives and are just trying to cast the next Tobey Maguire in the role.

Anton and Levitt are DOPEY looking? They're two incredibly attractive young men, unlike Lerman who just looks like any other kid.

He wouldn't be bad, but he's not on the top of my list.

wont get my hopes up until it actually gets confirmed but lerman is easily my first choice.

Steve Ditko is the exception to the rule. Ditko drew all his character awkward and dopey looking.

Every Peter interpretation has been much cooler after his work, which didn't last long anyway.

for me ditko is the definative spidey artist. he drew spidey as a skinny teen so I see spidey as a skinny teen, he drew peter as awkward as nerdy so I see peter as akward and nerdy. people say romita is the definative spidey artist but for me it is and always has been ditko.

Likewise. I love Ditko's Spidey.

You see him as the definitive artist when there are thousands of comics with hundreds of artists, many of whom have drawn the character over hundreds of issues, and Ditko did 30 of them?

Most people would say Romita would be definitive in the sixites - seventies, and he was MUCH less dopey looking. In fact, Peter wasn't that dopey looking after the first issue of Amazing Fantasy. Where you posted his truly nerdy look.

Ditko was not a very good artist. Its a good thing he didn't stay on it longer than he did.

This is the Peter I grew up reading:

peter is ripped and good looking there but I would place his age at 21-24 so if they cast efron then fair enough, but peter is in high school and lerman definately looks the part for that role and being only 18 he could play a high school peter for at least two movies.

lerman opening his mouth means talks haven't progress that far if they had he (lerman would almost certainly have signed an NDA (non disclosure agreement).

that's way webb was so coy when interviewed before it was official confirmed by sony

Yeah, I agree with Lerman, I don't agree with Tobey for Peter. Historically in the comics Peter is ripped, good looking, and not a very geeky character. He is only geeky and awkward before becoming Spider-man and by the time he gets to college his a pretty cool dude. After college, with the pics I showed, he became pretty tough and serious for a while in the 90s but he knows how to be a loudmouth joker during battle as well.

If we want to be true to the character, going for a through and through softspoken, geeky guy to play out the role through the series is just wrong. We need someone who can start of geeky as an exception and then grow and mature into a more funny and tough dude later on.

I had previously made the mistake of saying that he was, but you're right. He wasn't.

Still, it's basically the same design but with Peter looking older and buffer. One could argue that he looked rather handsome, but then again this was a different stage in Peter Parker's life. He was a college boy. Romita never drew high school Peter Parker, so when one thinks of that era, which is where the movie takes place, naturally it's gonna be Ditko's dopey-version.

what I like about lerman is he can be considered good looking but not a 'hottie', I can buy him being a geek or a nerd and I would definately do a double take if he was dating a supermodel but just don't get that vibe from efron, he looks like he could have any girl he wants and you'd EXPECT him to land MJ.

anyway it isn't confirmed but logan lerman is definately my first (and frankly ONLY) choice to play a high school teen. I'm a PJ fan but do I hope it tanks so there are no complications with him sealing the deal? I guess I do.

again, peter in his early 20's. he has gained muscle and blossomed into a mature good looking guy from a skinny nerd, which I could buy.

Then again, Peter isn't gonna be a twenty-something in this movie. He's a high school kid. And, since Steve Ditko drew all of the high school issues, Peter Parker was always dorky-looking in HS. But, of course, this is using Ultimate Spider-Man as its source material. So, we're not getting photographer Peter Parker. We're getting web-designer Peter Parker. So, I guess the Ditko rules don't apply here.

Yeah, and the pics I posted Peter was about 25.

exactly.
going back to logan lerman, he looks like the spectacular spider-man PP and he looks like the ultimate peter parker. I also like that he is slender because I always thought spidey should have the build of a dancer/gymnast so when he uses his strength its shocking that somone so slight is so strong.

I 'think' they are going to draw their inspiration from SSM/USM and lee/ditko.
basically all source material with PP/SM in high school and lerman can pass for all three where as some of the people listed look nothing like peter in that era. I mean, efron? really?

I'm trying to think of casting as a series of films. The character needs to mature the right way....and I think Lerman has the potential to make a good 25 yr old Peter 10 years from now if they get that far.

The thing with Efron is he really is too old to start out with.

The problem with Tobey was he was already mature and his character never really changed or matured THAT much through the series. I didn't like his overall vibe and tone of voice he brought to Peter. Just didn't remind me of the comics books...seemed like some alternate reality Peter from pleasantville. Plus, he was still being picked on in college.... never understood that. In the comics Peter toughened up in high school. In college, I never recall any bullying, esp. the juvenile spit ball stuff like Raimi portrayed.

Could everyone stop suggesting Emma Stone as Mary Jane. MJ is supposed to be a bombshell. Emma Stone is not a hot girl. She's not unattractive, but she is fairly average and normal....not MJ.

I can see this working. He's young, up and coming, and sony hopefully, seems to have pulled their heads out of their asses. I'd rather it be Lermon than Effron or some other teen heartthrob.
