Action-Adventure Power Rangers 4.0 - Part 2

And imo...PR shouldn't be afraid to take chances with some weird or unusual themes and motifs. Thats how they skipped ToQger, Zyuouger, Lupinranger vs Patranger, Kyuranger (and I am quite sure that Zenkaiger and Donbrothers will be skipped as well) as I heard that the themes and costume motifs are very unusual and weird for American taste.

Kyuranger is not being fully adapted because it is a budget issue. They really don't want to cast that many people as rangers. Near as I can tell, even Kyoryuger didn't have as many regular cast as Kyuranger. They already had an issue with that when the did SPD, pretty much only getting a voice actor for the Omega Ranger. They don't have the budget for 12 regulars.

LuPat has some issues being adapted in the current cultural climate. There also seems to be issues with children television here having good guys be criminals, see them wasting the pirate theme.

I could see Zenkaiger getting the Kyuranger treatment, because I am sure Hasbro is salivating over the Dragon-Q-Rex toys.

So in Cosmic Fury, there are rumors of:

  • An Orange Cosmic Fury Ranger, played by Fern, the girlfriend of Izzy, the Green Ranger. She would be the 7th Ranger
  • Heckle from Dino Charge showing up
  • Ollie turns evil, basically under a spell as he was for an episode in Season Two
  • Tarrick allies with the team since Amelia is his daughter, possibly becoming the 8th Power Ranger.
  • Some MMPR characters appearing, and based on character arcs in Once and Always and the fact that Lord Zedd is the main villain for Cosmic Fury, it does make sense. Rocky, Kat and Zack seem unlikely, Minh is an unknown but also unlikely, so basically it would be Billy, Adam and Aisha.
The last rumor should happen. The villain is going to be Lord Zedd. I think I need to watch Dino Charge, because their characters keep popping up in PR shows after their show ended such as Beast Morphers and Ninja Steel.

Well, they pop up in Beast Morphers because they used footage from the movie, which had all the Dino rangers. They popped up in Ninja Steel just because they were the next one made, and most of the actors were still in New Zealand.

All that popping up and zero characteristics except in OaA

So is Dino Charge any good? I am 15 episodes into Wild Force and I don't know what to make of it to be honest and will likely pivot back to Lightspeed Rescue after Wild Force.

I've heard its decent. From what I've seen, it seems good enough.

Ooooffff. Forever Red isn't till nearly the end of Wild Force.

I never loved WF. The biggest thing i liked about it was having the Yellow Ranger semi be in charge like Jen was in TF.

I haven’t seen it alongside any of the other NeoSaban shows myself but I think fans generally tend to rate it higher than Ninja Steel and Dino Fury so you might like it.

Wild Force is a bit of a slog sadly. I liked the Wild Zords a lot but the pacing and the story were okish. Forever Red is awesome though and the finale is really, really strong. As for Lightspeed Rescue, I’ve never seen a lot of people rank it very high but I personally am a huuuuge fan. Maybe I was just the right age when it came out but it’s one of my favourites. The stakes don’t necessarily feel as high or personal all the time as in Time Force or In Space but I think the whole team is really strong, the Titanium Ranger is absolutely amazing, the demons are great villains with some legit great designs and some fun drama between them, and the zords and power-ups are fantastic. The introduction of the Super-Train Megazord is simply god-tier.

I may give Dino Charge a shot. I have heard that the Blue Ranger of Dino Charge, Koda is a popular character and I liked him from his appearances in Beast Morphers and Ninja Steel.

The best episode of Ninja Steel is Dimensions in Danger, the final appearance of JDF as Tommy Oliver. What was interesting was that Steve Cardenas was in the episode returning as Rocky, but when he morphed, he was the Mighty Morphin Red Ranger rather than the Blue Zeo Ranger. And we saw in Once and Always that he was given a replica power coin to be the Mighty Morphin Red Ranger again. That means that sometime between that appearance in Ninja Steel and ASJ's appearance in Beast Morphers, Jason took the actual Red Power coin back. As of Once and Always, Kat, Rocky and Adam still have their Zeo powers most likely but for storyline purposes, I get why Kat and Rocky were given replica power coins to be the Red and Pink Mighty Morphin Rangers again. Also, Adam and Aisha's appearance in Once and Always made sense to me.

The one negative I have about Ninja Steel was the Paul Rudd look-a-like (he was if Paul Rudd shrunk in the wash) and his nerdy buddy. They were involved in many stupid shenanigans, basically trying to be Bulk and Skull, but without the appeal of Bulk and Skull. They tried way too hard to replicate Bulk and Skull and it didn't work with those two. Otherwise, I liked Ninja Steel. The henchmen weren't quite as bumbling as characters like Squat, Baboo, Goldar and Rito were in the original.

I think that I need to watch Lightspeed Rescue before I watch the Forever Red episode of Wild Force, since it has the Red Lightspeed Ranger and I don't know anything about him.

So I watched all of Dino Charge and....it's a fun show and I can see why Koda, the Dino Charge Blue Ranger appeared on Ninja Steel and Beast Morphers. I like that they ended up with Ten Power Rangers as a team, therefore not having to rely on past Power Rangers teams (although they joined forces with the Beast Morphers and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in Beast Morphers) and also didn't have "two goofy non-Rangers" as side characters that we see in Ninja Steel, Beast Morphers and Dino Fury. As I have said, the two moronic side characters in Ninja Steel were trying to replicate Bulk and Skull, except more inept and less likeable than Bulk and Skull. In Beast Morphers, the two side characters are siblings, which is a nice touch and they actually know who the Power Rangers are, which is also different than the other side characters (including Bulk and Skull) of the past. In Dino Fury, Jane from BuzzBlast is a bit too liberal when it comes to allowing people who don't work there just to hang out as we see Izzy, Zayto, Aiyon and Ollie just hanging out there whenever Javi and/or Amelia (who actually work there) are there working. Other than that, she's a quite likeable boss.

I did see Ninja Storm and that was a slog to get through.

King-Ohger's 6th official ranger...Spider Kumono introduced

The aura reminded me of Basco from Gokaiger and his voice is so seductive....haha

At first I like Rita/Papillon Ohger (Purple Ranger) but as the episodes goes until 12th eps last sunday...I changed heart into Himeno /Kamakiri Ohger (Yellow Ranger) :D

She is definitely my no.1 Sentai/PR heroine now hehe

So I watched Dino Thunder, SPD, Mystic Force, Operation Overdrive and Jungle Fury this Memorial Day Weekend. Dino Thunder wasn't too bad and I liked that they didn't rely way too much on Tommy's past and him being a bit of a science geek wasn't too shocking, especially after seeing him in MMPR. When he was the Green Ranger, it was him and Jason but by the time he was the White Ranger, it was more him and Billy especially by the time they introduced Rocky, Adam and Aisha (more on her in a separate thread later).

Operation Overdrive was a slog to get to. The two part "Once A Ranger" in Operation Overdrive was fine, and it was likely some sort of rights issue as there was a fighting scene at a werehouse on Angel Grove, the Rangers from other teams had their show themes when fighting, but not Adam as they played some generic theme rather than the MMPR song. I sense that was a rights issue. Also I sense that it was also some sort of rights issue when he morphed into the Black Mighty Morphin Ranger and they didn't show him saying "Mastadon" and showed the other morphs of the other Rangers present. At the end of the two part episode, he said he was taking Alpha 6 back to Angel Grove and to his martial arts dojo, but we know that by the events of Once and Always, he's up in space with the SPA, so something happened to Alpha 6 between then and the start of Once and Always as Robo Rita took over the body of Alpha 8. There was nothing appealing at all about the Operation Overdrive Rangers. I did get a chuckle a bit when Adam said he was surprised that Tommy was a doctor at that time period.

Mystic Force was unique although at times a slog to get to. They use magic and were their own Zords until they combined via a Megazord. The Red Ranger of the Mystic Force Rangers lacked the charm or charisma of all of the other Red Rangers. I wasn't a fan of their rap-ish style theme.

I enjoyed SPD a lot, although the actor who played Boom (Kelson Henderson) wasn't my favorite of the characters he has played. I liked him best as Mick in Ninja Steel. Cruger is a bit of a bad ass character, my favorite character of them all and it was cool that the Dino Thunder Rangers were respected in the future (although they never said what happened to Tommy by 2025). The guy who played the Blue Ranger, Sky got on my nerves the first few episodes. It was cool that they got pre-Ranger powers though.

Jungle Fury was fine. I liked that the morphers were sunglasses. I felt like they could do without a few of the masters, as I thought were too many of them.

So I have a bit of a theory that involves the Second MMPR Yellow Ranger Aisha is that she last morphed into the MMPR Yellow Ranger in the final episode of MMPR "Rangers in Reverse" in 1995 and based on how her story ended (until Once and Always) it does make sense. Now I have not gotten to Power Rangers Megaforce yet, but in the final episode "Legendary Battle" the MMPR Rangers show up, and it's likely that the Yellow Ranger of the group was Trini as Red was Jason, Black was Zack and Pink was Kimberly, and that was because of the Zeo Rangers also being in attendance, so Rocky, Adam and Kat were in their Zeo forms. It's also likely she wasn't the Yellow Ranger in the "Grid Connection" episode of Beast Morphers as MMPR was led by Jason and most likely it was the original 5 MMPR.

Based on that, these are the last times the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers morphed into their Ranger selves (parenthesis indicates year they last morphed):

Original Power Rangers:
- Jason Lee Scott (Red Ranger #1): Once and Always (2023)
- Zack Taylor (Black Ranger #2): Once and Always (2023)
- Billy Cranston (Blue Ranger): Once and Always (2023)
- Tommy Oliver (Green Ranger and White Ranger): Once and Always (2023)
- Kimberly Hart (Pink Ranger #1): Once and Always (2023)
- Trini Kwan (Yellow Ranger #1): Start of Once and Always (2022)

Other Mighty Morphin Power Rangers:
- Rocky DeSantos (Red Ranger #2): Once and Always (2023)
- Adam Park (Black Ranger #2): Power Rangers MegaForce (2014)- As the Green Zeo Ranger
- Katherine Hillard (Pink Ranger #2): Once and Always (2023)
- Aisha Campbell (Yellow Ranger #2): Final Episode of Season Three of MMPR (1995)
- Minh Kwan (Yellow Ranger #3): Once and Always (2023)

Now it does make sense as to why Aisha likely last morphed in 1995 as at the end of MMPR turned the Rangers to kids that led to the Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers and a quest for the Rangers to receive their Zeo Crystals. Aisha chose not to go back to her world and instead stay in the time period that Zordon sent her on to receive her part of the Zeo Crystal. She gave her part to a young girl named Tanya Sloan who became the Yellow Zeo Ranger (who was one of the Rangers captured by Robo Rita in Once and Always). Now we do not know when she returned to the current timeline to join Adam in the SPA

or if she will be a new Yellow Ranger as part of a group of veteran Rangers aiding the Cosmic Fury Rangers in the upcoming Cosmic Fury

Watching SPD as the only PR series that I have been able to watch entirely...it is clear to me which the footages that was taken from Dekaranger and which one made specifically for PR. It is obvious when seeing the Tokyo metropolitan building in all episodes. Lol haha.

Which reminds me that I need to rewatch Dekaranger and Magiranger back to back. I never watch it again since it first aired and bought the DVD movies for each series.

Especially Magiranger (Mystic Force), I remember I have strong feeling for Houka (the pink ranger) since she is very much looked alike with my ex in high school. Hehe.

And...on today's King-Ohger episode...is focusing on Himeno (my favorite yellow ranger!) and Jerami (the new added 6th white ranger, whose motif based on Spider).

14 episodes in....this series has already cemented as my most favorite! The interaction and the chemistry between each rangers are the most fun banter and interaction I've ever felt in a Super Sentai series. And the most catchy and epic opening song!

I could see Zenkaiger getting the Kyuranger treatment, because I am sure Hasbro is salivating over the Dragon-Q-Rex toys.

Hey sorry the late reply...seems like most of the lost post slowly coming back again haha.

Oh yeah seems like they are limited by budget.
But to be fair in Kyuranger's case, out of 12 rangers only 7 of them are human and the rest are humanoid robot and voice actors were voicing them. But I get the point. And yeah it's weird watching SPD and see the Deka Break (Omega Ranger) doesn't have human form haha.

For LupinVsPatranger, yeah it is unfortunate situation that I could definitely see that is an issue in the US considering how the police and cops are having not so good image right there now.

Zenkaiger had one of the most cool mechas/Zords and I am with you that I suspect Hasbro will adapt only the mechas but not the suit of the rangers haha...and yeah Dragon Q Rex which is based on Zyuranger's Green Ranger Dragon Zord was definitely the most coolest of them all.

so apparently the upcoming Cosmic Fury will only use Sentai footage for Zords, but again that's like one of like 1,000 unconfirmed rumors about the show which includes: an actual Orange Ranger, played by the character Fern, the love interest of the Green Ranger, Heckle from Dino Charge showing up, David Yost returning as Billy, Ollie the Blue Ranger turning evil by Lord Zedd, this time for much longer, the former Void Knight aiding them as a purple Ranger

So I watched Power Rangers RPM, namely to see if there is consistency in the US accents that Eka Darville and Rose McIver have on this show as compared to later projects in which they played Americans (Eka on Jessica Jones and Rose in the Christmas Prince trilogy of movies as I have not seen Rose in I Zombie). They rehashed the whole "Red Ranger has a sister who turns out to be one of the villains" that Rangers in Space did with Andros and Astronema a decade earlier. The duo of Gem and Gemma are a bit too wild, although Gemma was a lot more mature and mellowed out (although still has a positive outlook) in the Ninja Steel Episode "Dimensions in Danger." And so Venjix became Evox, the main villain of Beast Morphers. I read about the problems the show had and it was quite evident.

What I liked about Power Rangers Samurai is how they introduced the Sixth Ranger, which has been the template for other Power Rangers shows since then. They introduced Antonio Garcia by having him join the good guys right away instead of "let's introduce him by making him evil and then it will take somewhere between 3-6 episodes to make him a good guy." Yes they did the same with Gem and Gemma on RPM (inserting them as Rangers right away), but they showed up together as Rangers. If there is one thing I like to see in the Power Rangers series is someone evil who has gone good, joining the team as like a 6th or 7th Ranger but turning back to evil again (voluntarily and not via an evil spell). It would shake things up a bit as once someone evil turns to the side of good, they stay on the side of good forever.

Cosmic Fury only using Zord footage is hardly an unconfirmed rumor, it was confrimed when announced. And we have seen the new suits.

Right, I forgot. But everything else is a rumor.

from Fern as the Orange Ranger to Heckle from Dino Charge, to David Yost returning as Billy, to Ollie the Blue Ranger turning bad for longer than he was in Dino Fury, to Tarrick becoming the Purple Ranger. Out of all of those, I am leaning towards Tarrick becoming the Purple Ranger coming true and Billy showing up. We saw at the end of Dino Fury that Tarrick went good permanently because his daughter turned out to the be the Pink Ranger Amelia. And with Lord Zedd the main villain of Cosmic Fury and how things ended up for him at the end of Once and Always, Billy showing up seems likely. I would say that Adam and Aisha are possible too based on where things ended up for them in Once and Always, but Billy is more likely based on a recent interview Karan Ashley did in which she said that the cast of Once and Always was done shooting as the cast of Cosmic Fury came into New Zealand and that David Yost stayed a little longer after the rest of the cast went back to the States. I think that there's a shot that Fern becomes the Orange Ranger, but how she goes about doing it remains to be seen. She's the only teen from Dino Fury to not have been a Power Ranger and she's coming back for season three based on photos of table reads for Cosmic Fury.

We'll see about the rumors of Ollie turning bad and I am not buying the rumors of Heckle appearing on Cosmic Fury.

I wonder if a Cobra Kai of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers works better than a total reboot like the 2017 movie? My idea is to retire the MMPR, but at the same time keep the actors and characters around for a new team of Power Rangers. This new Power Rangers team would still take place in Angel Grove but it wouldn't be MMPR. I would make it 5 teens as always and have someone like Zack or Billy (or both) as Mentors. I would keep Minh and put her on the team as that team's Yellow Ranger. And then you can have others make guest appearances spread throughout the run of this newer group of Angel Grove based Power Rangers. There were 4 Power Rangers teams who were based out of Angel Grove: MMPR, Zeo (although most of Zeo were MMPR), Turbo and In Space.

Fyi, PR Samurai has used the same script and story treatment as the original source of that series, Samurai Sentai Shinkenger.
Apparently the showrunner of PR Samurai was loving the original script written by Kobayashi Yasuko so they admittedly says that they adapted straight from that same script.

So if you are loving that series, I'd recommend you try Shinkenger as well so you can compare it haha...imo it was one of the finest and the most epic in a series It had the feel of the old jidai geki (period drama) samurai slash action drama in it.
Just watch the first 5 minutes of episode 1 alone and I can almost guarantee that you will love it hehe (that first 5 minutes of shinkenger eps 1 really set the tone for the rest of the series)

I wonder if a younger generation of MMPR would work. Not a reboot, as Minh would remain the Yellow Ranger but like her and 4-5 classmates from Angel Grove High School. Now we saw from the Ninja Steel episode "Dimensions in Danger" and Once and Always that Kat and Tommy have a son now named JJ, but as we saw in Once and Always, Kat and Tommy are likely still living in Reefside instead of Angel Grove. There's a chance that (if they are still alive) that Kat's parents still live in Angel Grove so we can get JJ that way. We don't know if Jason or Kimberly are back in Angel Grove as the only Power Rangers still living in Angel Grove are Zack, Minh and Billy (it doesn't seem like others with ties to Angel Grove like the Yellow Zeo Ranger or the Space Rangers who were captured by Robo Rita in Once and Always are living in Angel Grove). Keep Billy and/or Zack around as mentors.

My idea is to keep Angel Grove as the setting for a new Power Rangers series, but it would be more like Zeo, Turbo or In Space in that it's a brand new team but pays respects to MMPR. Keep Minh around as that team's new Yellow Ranger but introduce 4-5 new teens and different colors other than Red, Blue, Pink, Yellow, Black, Green and White. Keep Billy and Zack around as mentors, but also open up the possibilities of cameos not just from the MMPR gang (Rocky, Adam, Aisha and Kat) but also the Yellow Zeo Ranger, maybe the Blue Turbo Ranger and the Space Rangers.

I found it interesting that there's an Alpha 9 after Alpha 8 became Robo Rita as Alpha 7 was seen in "Forever Red" episode of Power Rangers Wild Force and the whereabouts of Alpha 6 is unknown (although probably on the SPA ship with Adam and Aisha) and the whereabouts of Alpha 5 is also unknown.

So I am watching Power Rangers Megaforce episodes that the official YT channel has released and I can see why it's considered one of the worst Power Rangers seasons ever. The Red Rangers from Megaforce, Operation Overdrive and Mystic Force lack the charm or charisma that the Red Rangers from the Wild Force Episode "Forever Red" all had (plus I liked MMPR Red Ranger #2 Rocky). Those three are to me at least the three worst Red Rangers ever. I liked the SPD, RPM, Samurai (both of them) and Jungle Fury Red Rangers and the Red Rangers in Dino Charge, Ninja Steel, Beast Morphers and Dino Fury are all likeable. The only thing I liked about Mystic Force was the use of magic to morph and that they become their own zords. With Megaforce, they basically repeated MMPR and not in a good way on certain things, like the Rangers mentor is basically a head with a robot sidekick (and how they chose the Rangers).

On each Power Rangers show, there are usually two or three characters I like, but with Megaforce, Operation Overdrive and Mystic Force, I didn't like anybody. Out of MMPR (Once and Always included) I liked all of the Rangers, including Minh (despite the fact that she was a bit aggravating at the start), but following this, I expect her to be more mellowed out in future appearances, knowing what it is like to be a Ranger. Out of the whole Angel Grove Era of the Power Rangers (from MMPR to In Space), I thought the worst Ranger was the Turbo Blue Ranger Justin, but compared to the Rangers in Megaforce, Operation Overdrive and Mystic Force, he wasn't that bad. Now I still think the Blue Turbo Ranger is the worst of the "Angel Grove Era" of Power Rangers and thought that he should have gotten some sort of appearance as an adult.

Out of all of the Power Rangers series, I thought the worst characters were all of the characters in Mega Force, Operation Overdrive and Mystic Force, Skull's son Spike in Samurai, the Professor in Power Rangers in Space, Justin the Turbo Blue Ranger, Divatox, Dimitria and Victor and Monty from Ninja Steel (who are basically incompetent morons in a failed attempt to replicate Bulk and Skull).
