Prometheus - Part 6

I liked Sunshine, but it's not a film i'd choose to watch often. It's like a once in a blue moon thing for me.

Never watched Sunshine, but I heard that it's polarizing.

I think it's more the final third is polarizing. Not to spoil it but there is a definite shift in tone from the rest of the movie.

Felt like a mix of Alien and Solaris to me. Sunshine was pretty good I thought.

I still haven't seen Solaris (the original or the remake) :csad:.

If you watch the original make sure you have loads of weed and loads of things to eat.

It's so random, too. But if you can look past that, the score is fantastic and the cast is great. I really liked the very last image with [BLACKOUT]Cillian Murphy's voice-over. Sexy.[/BLACKOUT]

Oh, and damn you for posting that Empire review. For a second I was :cmad:.

People say that but having watched it many times their aare hints all throught the film what is coming. Ill spoiler tag it for those who haven't seen it.
The psychologist constantly talks about light and how it effects you, the disappearance of Icarus 1 is mentioned and its made clear something went wrong, the Penbacker video shows that the captain of Icarus 1 was coming unhinged, crew on Icarus 2 are dreaming about the sun and showing signs of mental instability from isolation. Its all very subtle but on repeat viewings you begin to see that the the last third isn't as out of left field as people think. By the time they get to Icarus 1 it should be obvious something is off

One more week and our friends across the pond will be giving reviews lol, I may disappear then.

Yep. In seven days and about two hours I'll be sat with a grin on my face waiting for it to start.

Just visually, I can tell this movie will be stunning to watch at home on Bluray!

This is taken from another forum what do you think of this guys concerns?

It's always a cause for concern in the sci-fi genre when a prequel is created many years after the original film, because the depiction of technological advancement may be contradictory. The reason being, when the original film would have been created - assuming it was set in the future - the cutting edge of technological ideas would have been employed. However, when creating a prequel many years later, these technological ideas would have advanced further but would be anachronistic to introduce into the prequel of the original film that has older and out-dated technologies to start with.

You all know what I'm getting at here in spite of my poor explanation, but I want to explain for the benefit of any rookies we have onboard.

So with respect to Prometheus versus Alien, the spacesuits look more advanced in Prometheus, which to me is a bona fide break in continuity. Furthermore, we haven't seen too much of the computers in Prometheus but judging by the trailer, it's all touchscreens and colorful displays, which again would be more advanced than the hardware/software depicted in Alien.

As a creative, I hope Ridley can provide good explanations for the technology or even hold back on going nuts with it in order to preserve continuity. Without such consideration the connection between Promethus and Alien will be jarred.

Is it just me, or does anyone else have these concerns? Will it spoil The enjoyment of the film for you if we have a Phantom Menace on our hands?

The Prometheus is a state-of-the-art research vessel.

The Nostromo is a run-of-the-mill space freighter.

Yeah, the tech issues with the star wars prequels was an issue for me, but for some reason, its not here. We don't know how much time is inbetween this and alien. Not only that, but look at the gap in technology in reality: the technology of an old fishing vessel is not going to be on par with the technology of a luxury cruise ship and yet they share the same sea and harbor.

Most people have a problem with the final third of Sunshine. Chris Evans himself didn't like final third that much although he says Sunshine is his favourite movie his made.

Coincidentally Benedict Wong who played Troy in Sunshine is in Prometheus as Ravel. Wong was also in Moon.

I never noticed that space suits in Alien had cricket knee pads/shin guards :woot:

I don't recall them saying how old the Nostromo was. It doesn't look like a new ship.

The Nostromo could be as old or even older than the Prometheus.

The Nostromo could of also been designed by Yuntai pre-merger with Weyland or another rival company thus why the tech is different in apperance.

There are a number of reasons why the technology on the Prometheus and Nostromo might look different.

Also I don't think the people who are complaining about the tech looks of the space suits noticed that there are two different types. The grey heavy duty ones for harsh enviorments that they are wearing in Prometheus outside the hanger which looks similar to the Alien space suits and then there is the blue skin tight suits which we have all seen in Prometheus.

If I remember correctly, the Nostromo was being sent to the scrapyard after that final trip, but then an Xenomorph happened.

OK, I'm starting to get a little jumpy that reviews for this thing aren't out yet. I'm going to the midnight screening on Thursday night and dragged my friends along for the ride too, so I really hope this film delivers otherwise I'm going to end up with a big rotten egg on my face. :cmad: :csad:
