There's always someone who will tout some technology as better than another over anything else. Sometimes CGI is better, sometimes it's better to use practical effects. Usually it's best to blend the two together and make it as seamless as possible.

I think a really good and very recent example of this is Real Steel. There are some parts where CG is utilized for the bots (for the fight scenes), and some parts where animatronics are used (where the bots don't have to move as much). But the CG is done so well and is so seamless (probably the best use of modern CG I've seen to date), that it's hard to tell where one ends and the other begins.

They should be used together and often in the same shots. That way, the parts that aren't CGI have to be carefully matched well so that the CGI does not stick out.

I just want to note that I'm not a big Alien fan, I mean I am a fan but not one of those BIG ones.

So thats why I was so surprised that last night I dreamed that Fox have released three new AMAZING stills from the movie showing a new great alien form.

I don't know why have I dreamed that but I hope it is some kind of a sign. And if these days Fox release new images, and they are like the ones I dreamed I will freak out.

I will see this flick but wasn't the biggest alien fan out there. I consider myself a Predator fan out of this genre but did really enjoy the movie Aliens.

Actually, it sounds quite dull.

Ya one of the mods over at AVP Galaxy was talking about them a little bit ago, but they removed all links, so I never saw them. I hope some one captured them.

Ridley Scott Talks Prometheus' Alien Connection

Source: Speakeasy
November 7, 2011

Director Ridley Scott talked to Speakeasy about his anticipated Prometheus, opening June 8th and starring Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Logan Marshall-Green and Patrick Wilson.

The official synopsis is as follows:

Visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life's ultimate mystery.

Scott added to Speakeasy that the central metaphor of the film is about a "higher being" who challenges the gods, and the gods don't want to give him fire. "Fire is our first form of technology," Scott says, and so by taking fire, the higher being is punished "in perpetuity in a horrible fashion.". Much like the story of the mythological god, Prometheus, who stole fire from Zeus and for his actions was bound to a rock with an eagle eternally devouring his liver.

He also said that the last eight minutes of the Prometheus story evolve into "a pretty good DNA of the 'Alien' one."

We'll see the birth of the Xenomorph in the last 8 minutes of the film, probably evolved from the creature that takes place through much of the story.

Okay, so is this a part of the 'Alien' series? Or is this a completely separate entity that has nothing to do with 'Alien'? Is the classic alien in this? Or are we talking about something else.

I'm just confused, as I'm sure a lot will be, because I'm hearing the word "Prequel", and I'm hearing "Sequel," "Original", "Separate", etc.

What's the deal, brosephs?

It's a story that takes place in the Alien universe and before the first Alien film.

hahah Fox and Scott are really scared of the word ''prequel''. funny very funny.

It's a film that takes place in the same universe as the Alien films, but will probably connect to them very tenuously. Sort of like Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction.

Yeah because Apes and X-Men turned out so badly for them. Go away until you have constructive things to say please.

One of the actors (Rafe Spall) has confirmed that this is an alien prequel. I think he actually said something that he shouldn't have because Ridley likes to use ambiguous language to describe the film. :funny: He said, "It IS part of the Alien franchise."

We have seen also pictures of set pieces (as well as trailer stills) that are almost identical to the derelict ship seen in Alien, so it's pretty much a given that the space jockeys are in this in some form. There also appears to be a Weyland-Yutani logo on some of the vehicles. In the trailer stills, the interior of the human ship looks very similar to that of the Nostromo, and the space suits are similar as well. One of the stills also shows amphora-like objects in a jockey ship (or some other structure made by them) arranged similarly to the way the eggs were in Alien.

I like that they are keeping things abiguous as to whether this is a prequel or not, it obviously is in some form, but if most of the movie is something different I have no problem regarding that. I just hope they dont de-mystify the xenomorphs too much, as thats when things become less interesting. Just look at the Wolverine movie for an example of this. Not only was it a poor movie, but finding out everything about him before he lost his memory makes his story in X1-X2 less interesting.

I dont want to see Prometheus doing that to the Alien Quadrilogy, answer some questions, sure, but dont give us everything and I would even mind if they answered some questions but gave us some other questions at the same time.
