Lol...I bet its not "riling up people" if you made some crack about Cellophane S's, Real Estate Schemes, or Dead Beat dad Superstalkers.

But that's differeeeeent:csad: because...because Cavill is kinda hot!:yay:

Or something.

I would give Man of Steel a 5.7. My biggest problem is the story and tone. The cast was good and it was visually good for the most part (though I do feel Krypton felt too CGIish. I can understand why but it still felt that way).

I feel with a different script it would have been better.

The cast was fine. Usually it's not the cast but the story and direction that messes up movies like this.

The cast was great, it definitely wasn't their fault MOS turned out the way it did. IMO, of course.

When Pa Kent died in the Tornado ... that was when the movie literally "broke bad". Pa Kent dies of a heart attach and this teaches Supes he can't save everyone, but sure as hell should try.

At least that is what I think.

Welcome.

Yes, the heart attack scene is superior. And Pa Kent is likeable in the classic movie...Costner's version is a depressed weirdo. Imagine how it would be to grow up with a guy like that.

Ma Kent: "Our dog is pain, Jonathan. Should we put it to sleep?"

Pa Kent: "...maybe. I'm busy looking at tornadoes"

I have nothing against Kevin Costner though. He's usually good.

Hi, everyone. :)

Ack! I'd put it above "average" and below "very good."

What worked? I loved the tone and the acting. I loved the suit. The villains. The action.

What didn't? All the changes to the myth made me feel it was a Superman movie when it started but not when it ended. I get almost every superhero film changes things, and we can assess the success of those changes according to the results. In Man of Steel, Lois knows Clark is an alien and Superman, which destroys the whole Clark-Lois-Superman dynamics (and that's an absolute no-no in my book :nono: ). Okay, but we don't get to see how this improves anything, or how it modifies the relationship between them, or Clark at the Planet, etc.

Pa Kent takes his own life. Not only couldn't I buy a Superman that stays still not saving him, but I never got what that happened for. How this encouraged/discouraged Clark. At first I thought that it would make people from Smallville think Clark was not super-powered, but when Lois got to Smallville, people still believed he was. What did you die for, Jonathan? :csad::halo:

You get it. Pa Kent was teaching his son terrible moral lessons in Man Of Steel. It's the worst version of Pa Kent ever done.

Yeah it is such a shame, Kevin Costner is a great actor. I really didn't understand this Pa Kent at all.

Brace yourselves, people who claim you "didn't understand" or "missed the point" of Pa Kent are about to come in and berate you for disagreeing with them.

There wasn't much to understand, as he wasn't very fleshed out at all. Aside from the source material baggage, he was a very one note, poorly written supporting character.

They're welcome to try and explain what we are all supposedly not understanding about this.

I've brought this up in the past and basically been talked down to by people who claim that I didn't get that "they were going for a realistic, modern take".
Apparently getting angry when your super-powered adopted child saves a bus full of kids and suggesting that maybe the better course of action would be to let them all die is not only understandable, but worth condoning.
Pa Kent then goes on to explain to Clark why it's so important to keep his secret, claiming that not only are their lives at stake but so are the "lives of others", in his words. Apparently all of these aforementioned lives are worth more than a handful of children on a bus, as Pa Kent was openly against Clark doing that.
And before anyone comes in here trying to correct me, I understand what they are going for but it's a choice I ultimately don't agree with.

Agreed. I lost faith in Pa Kent as soon as he told his son that it would have been better to let innocent people to die just to keep a secret that most people wouldn't even believe anyway from a bunch of kids. Even if they did it's worth it to save their lives.

Don't expect to be taken seriously with that opinion though. It's up there with complaining about the wanton destruction on the list of things certain defenders just won't acknowledge as a legitimate criticism.

I'm totally fine with a Pa Kent who at least considers the idea of the bigger picture. I dont find that adding this dimension makes him more one-note than the previous versions.

Superman has always had to deal with balance and restraint. Superman chooses not to save people every second he spends as Clark Kent the reporter. He chooses to let people die by not interfering in conflicts on the other side of the world. He does this because he believes it's for the greater good. This doesnt make him Zod. But thats just me.
