Rockstar Red Dead Redemption

Well yes, two games in the series, two different R-words used. It is why people spent 6 years trying to figure out what the new R-word would be.

Am I the only one sitting here for six years not doing this? A buddy of mine and myself have always been saying we are hoping for a "RDR 2". I was never trying to figure out the third R word they'd use. Maybe I'm the only one I guess haha

I know they are hyping a trailer..? I'm just saying each day has been a little picture to tease, the trailer is Thursday but tomorrow a day in between wasn't sure if they'd release another little like artwork pic or something.
Sorry, I was talking about the trailer. Yeah, I think we will get something else tomorrow. Maybe an even clearer view of the crew? I would have assumed the title, but they already did that.

Everyone wanted the sequel. The only question was what the title would be. Kind of like trying to figure out the title to the next Star Wars.

Huh I must've missed the train on that one. Cause I was never wondering that.

Red, Jack or John. I think the main character could be any of them really.

I'm assuming it'll be a prequel with us running as John during his outlaw days. But yea those 3 could easily be the main. Can't wait tho. John was one of my fav protags from last gen, so I can't wait to see what R* comes up with.

yeah. Just as many people assumed it would be RDR2 which is exactly what it is

thats more of an assumption than a tradition. Something needs to happen multiple times for it to become a tradition. Revolver was originally a Capcom published game. Redemption was something that was 100% a Rockstar production. Makes sense why they'd want to build up that name and make it a thing especially since it has recognition. People shouldnt have gone into this assuming they were going to drop it

My money was on young John until I saw the title. Now I am thinking they might follow the boy.

I was really into Red Dead Revolver and Redemption. I do not blame you for being normal. :O

I was never into Revolver. But I was obsessed with Redemption. Played the hell out of that game plus all its DLC. And multiplayer. One of my favorite games of all time. So I have always wanted another game like everyone else. I guess I'm just one of the few that wasn't wracking their brain thinking of the R title.

The character on the very far right appears to be a Native American. Would be cool if this does what GTA did and let's you play as 3 protagonists. Would be fun to play as the native, can you imagine riding on a horses shooting bow and arrows? We never had that in the last game.

I was wondering if they'd expand the GTAV protagonist system here. Could be interesting. Considering the variety of weapons in the photo, and even a dual wielder, could open up some really fun ideas.

Think I'll be popping in my RDR this weekend. Last I played a few months ago I was in the Mexico section.

Would be cool but R* would have to walk a thin line when it comes to that sort of depiction in this day and age.

Luckily the Red Dead game/s seem less obviously stereotype based than the GTA games.

It almost has to be a prequel considering how Red Dead took place at the very end of the Old West. I definitely think we'll see John again, though I don't think he'll be the main character.

Oh it'll definitely be set earlier than the past, as you mention the last game took place as the "Wild West" was nearing an end.

I don't think they need to follow GTA Vs lead with multiple protags. I think one is more than enough. I do hope the game revolves around us putting together a group of misfits to take on some big challenge. Again, I just watched Magnificent 7 so that's clearly on my mind.

I'd love to see dual wielding revolvers show up. I wanted that in the last game.

Yeah I'm not saying it needs to do what GTA did with multiplayer playable characters. Im just wondering if that's what they're gonna do though.

So zero would be okay too? :woot:

Fall 2017...

I dont mind it being called Red Dead Redemption 2. But I think Red Dead Retribution would make a good title.

The title "Red Dead Redemption 2" implies this is a sequel to Redemption, but that probably isn't the case and should not be. So I hope the title is changed at some point before release. They have a unique naming scheme running and just going with RDR2 seems lazy to me, especially if its story is at best ancillary to the previous game.

Like someone else said the second game was called Redemption because Red Dead Redemprion wasnt a sequel to Red Dead Revolver. It was a spiritual successor. The title change probably had absolutely nothing to do with any "unique naming squeme".

Its the same thing that happened with the Souls games. The first game was called Demon Souls. The second game was a spiritual siccessor and not a sequel so it was named Dark Souls. The third game was a sequel to Dark Souls so the game was called Dark Souls 2. The fourth game, being a spiritual successor, was called Bloodbourne. The fifth game, being a sequel to Dark Souls 2, was named Dark Douls 3.

Its probably the same with these games. This game is apparently a sequel to Red Dead Redemption which would would explain why its called Red Dead Redemption 2. Maybe a future spiritual successor will get a different title.

Dark Souls is called Dark Souls, because the name Demon Souls is owned by Sony. They changed it so they could release the new IP on all systems. That is why Demon Souls ended, and they remade the series as Dark Souls. Bloodborne was a different game and was again owned by Sony.

This is not the same thing.

But that's the thing. I don't want a direct sequel to Redemption, nor do I think it would really be possible without diminishing what Redemption was. It was about the end of the Old West. It took place in 1911. Jack Marston is effectively the last remnant of that world, inheriting the sins of his father. I feel like this game has to take place before, whether or not it has anything to do with the Marstons.
