Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Replacement cast for Agents of SHIELD

Bennett's not terrible but I'm baffled that she is the show's leading lady. She's just not good enough for that. I wish she were but she isn't.

Chloe Bennet was chosen to play the lead in AOS for the same reason that Skye was written to be the main character, over and above even Coulson: She fits the mold of Whedon's stock female lead perfectly. The "Skye"-type of character is the crutch Whedon always reaches for when creating a TV show. Not being able to cram one of her many twins into The Avengers must have cut him to the quick. So when AOS was proposed he plopped right down at the old computer, came up with the most stereotypical Whedonesque name ever, gave her cliched "hacker" powers, added the tragic Magic Orphan backstory and ran with it. Bennet looks the part, acting be damned.

Fixed. :oldrazz:

She definitely looks the part. And yes I know all of Whedon and crews tricks. He always has to have tough snarky girl and bland stoic love interest guy who is always much older for some reason. I don't know why this show needed that but it did so now we are stuck with these characters.

Except that Angel, Mal, River, Paul Ballard, and Echo aren't really like Skye at all.

Heck, Buffy, who's the closest, isn't even very much like Skye.

The only thing Skye and Buffy really have in common is that they're both female and sassy. And basically every Joss Whedon character is sassy, so I don't thing that really counts.

True. Skye, Echo, River, all cheesy Whedon Wonder Waif names. As soon as I saw that there was a "Skye" in the cast of AOS, I knew exactly what she would be and that she'd be the main character. He's too damned predictable.

But those three characters barely have anything in common beyond being female?

And River isn't even the main character of Firefly. Mal is. Her story is the driving plot of the series, but the narrative mostly focus on the way how Mal deals with it.

Assuming ABC kept Skye, May and Coulson, these are the type of actors and agents I might add.

Henry Lennix , sent to the team to keep on eye on Coulson causing friction, would also have history with Ming Na's character- Blacklist, Dollhouse

Stephen Lobo tech specialist taking over the fitz simmons role- Continuum

Colin O' Donoghue , rouge-ish english bad boy SHEILD agent who would basically take the Ward role and be the guy who interacts with Skye - Once Upon a time

Helena Mattsson a current SHEILD agent who at one tme worked for Hydra , or some other organization like that. Someone who would always keep the team on their toes and who they wouldn't fully trust - Nikita , 666 Park Avenue

Bennett's Skye has been wonderful. Written a bit clunky at times but so much potential. Also, as an actress she just eats up the screen. You keep hypnotic talent like that around.

I say they kill off Ward eventually. It would bring the team to its knees and make them all feel vulnerable. It would be a "Thunderbird" X-Men death. Kill a character early and the threat that anyone could go at any time becomes very real.

I doubt Harry Lennix will ever make an appearance. He's already General Swanwick in the DCCU.
