RoboCop Reboot - Part 7

^I think that was needed, before seeing the movie I was really worried about how rubbery the suit looked, thankfully they addressed it perfectly.

Total Worldwide Box Office: $242,051,504
North America Box Office: $58,317,504

I finally got around to watching this a few days ago. It wasn't bad, but I do prefer the original MUCH more.

I did like when it showed him with all the robot pieces removed. Really creepy!

total worldwide will be higer because tomorrow the movie comes out in Belgium!!!!

Best scene of the film, probably. And yeah, this was a good movie. Though not great - I still give it 7/10.

I watched Robocop today, its not great but its also not that bad, I think had they cast a better lead than Kinnaman. He was wooden before he even became Robocop and he was one if the worst aspects of the film for me. The other thing I felt the film lacked was more of the original score.

What I did like was the remake was it didn't feel like they just remade the original it felt like they actually took the concept and changed it. I loved the Sam Jackson news reports, they took the idea from the original but did it in a different way. All in all I'd say it was decent enough for me to want a sequel.

Good stuff, is it due to come out anywhere else after that?

I think Belgium is the only country where it wasn't released yet. Back in february some Belgian websites that collect info about movies had an article that there where no plans to release it in Belgium.

Now that the movie played in The Netherlands (our neighbour country) they can use the filmrolls from them to show it in our Belgian theaters. :) We both speak Dutch, only differents are in accents and prononciation. So same subtitles.

Just watched it. Man it's frightening how much tech is involved in our lives. CCTV, sattelite, gps, phone etc. if they want too nobody's save. That's the message I got out of it.

The series Person of Interest also tackles this subject. In fact, is the theme that structures the entire show. Frightening, really.

Not often we disagree but I have to here, I was really impressed with Kinnaman in this, thought he did very well in the role and was one of the things that really surprised me about the movie. I thought he did especially well when considering he was surrounded by mostly very good actors.

Yeah I have been to both Belgium and Holland, been to Amsterdam 5 times, though I am currently living in Australia, I am actually English. Surprised this has taken so long to get to Belgium though.

We'll have too I thought he had no range whatsoever his emotion filled face was the same as is normal face and his voice never changed, it was just one tone throughout.

Finally watched this. I was surprised I enjoyed it. Aside from a few beats here and there, it felt different enough from the origin to justify its existence.

The original, which I love, is an over the top satire, plain and simple. This remake is a more serious take and works well enough.

Things I liked:

- the overall tone. It took itself more seriously but not overly so
- The three leads of Kinnaman, Oldman, and Keaton. It took me awhile to warm up to Kinnaman. But when they sedate him, and he adjusts his voice and walk to be more robotic and soulless, it was perfect. I liked JEH as well. This may be the first time I've heard his normal voice.
- the pacing. At least until the finale. I liked that they did go a different route and showed his arc of turning into a machine versus starting out that way immediately.

What didn't work:
- Chemistry with his wife. She was ok in the role, but I was more invested in his son's relationship
- the Novak element. Felt like this part was supposed to be the satire of the movie like the original, but just seemed out of place
- the third act. Keaton just goes completely evil out of nowhere. And they could have explained better how he was able to override the red asset programming. They gave some hints earlier that somehow he was able to overcome his programming, but the didn't really follow through
- ending with the Novak element. It's like they couldn't think of a proper ending so used SLJ to exposition everything. I would have ended it with Robo back on the streets getting ready to arrest someone

Overall it was a good effort and I'd be interested in a sequel.

I watched it today and had the same reaction. It was ok. Pretty good considering the original is a top 3 film for me. Didn't buy Keaton going all evil at the end but he was great in it. Also Detroit didn't seem like it needed saving. It looked like a nice, pretty place. Still solid effort.

Man I hope this gets a sequel, really liked this and will be buying the BD soon.

I would actually be interested in a sequel now. I think they would be free to go their own way free of comparisons now.

I liked this a lot, bought it on a whim and wasn't too let down. Shame a sequel may never come. Good action and some decent performances. I'd love to see this as a TV show.

Never say never.;) Pacific Rim is getting a sequel written, and it fared the same fate as Robo in theaters.

That's a good point but I think that with this productions troubled history and lackluster BO return makes it unlikely I think.

I want to see this but haven't yet so I think I'll blind buy it next week since the blu-ray will be on sale for $13.

I think a sequel to this reboot could work very well if they start incorporating more stuff from the original movie. For example, one of the absolutely best things about the first movie was the relationship between Lewis and Murphy, the way this weird cop-partner relationship unfolds, was very interesting and fun to see. And we had none of that in this reboot. Now that the 'birth' of Robocop has already been explored, they should start having a little bit more fun.

Lewis wasn't as active as the original but I still bought the friendship. And he did save Robo at the end like the original.
