Scream 4!!!!!

Ok, so I saw it last night in Toronto. let me just say the crowd loved it; there was cheering and laughter and some jumps. I love the ending credits. And Neve Campbell was there and she did a Q&A after the movie and is a real doll. Very personable and gorgeous in real life!

So the movie? I'll include spoilers in spoiler tags but I don't have a lot of time to write this haha.

First off, this is the best Scream film since the first. hands down. Anyone who has read my posts here should know by now I am not a very big fan of Scream 2, and even though it's an unpopular opinion, I really couldn't care less. Scream 3 was always much more watchable and enjoyable than Scream 2. Having that said, this new film BLOWS both of them out of the water.

Like Scream because of it's references and puns and inside humour? Good, because this film probably had more of that than all of the previous 3 combined. It was clever, smart, fast-paced, and extremely entertaining.

The opening was hilarious. The audience laughed and clapped. You'll see.
The finale? Genius. Some people may hate who the killer is............but it makes complete sense and is without question RELEVANT to our times. I don't want to give it away, obviously, but I can't see how anyone would think not. I really can't. The entire film is a pun to what's going on in Hollywood today, as well as the Screamverse.

Things I didn't like?

The kills were boring for the most part. Just stab! and then they're dead. Kinda like Scream 3 but with more blood. Olivia had the best death scene, I'd say.

I also feel that there wasn't enough Ghostface. We get to see him a lot but it's only for a few seconds at a time. We never get to spend any brooding time with him as he stalks his victims.

Rebecca (who play's Sidney's assistant) is completely useless. And hammy. I mean, Sid fires her and she's in the elevator talking to herself for christ sakes. "She'll come back, they always come back. I'm the best assistant she's ever had. You'll see" kind of talking to herself. Must of been Ehren's writing LOL.

But my BIGGEST complaint is about Kirby (Hayden Panettiere). She was one of the best characters in the film and they ****ing killed her off! Not just that, her death scene was so lame and anti-climatic! She gets stabbed in the gut twice and that's it! It really brings the film down for me, I'm really not kidding. She should have lived, and if they wanted to kill her, they should have killed her in an epic way! UGH!! It really upsets me. They should have had her wheeled out in the end like they did with Dewey in Scream 1 & 2!!! :(

All in all I'd give it a 4/5.

Awesome review. You just raised my excitement! Can't wait to see this! Thank you for the review.

:up::up:

I'm going to just go ahead and rule Dewey out as the killer. It would just draw too many compairisons to the first Scary Movie.

Great review - Thanks

That actually upped my anticipation level. Very exciting to hear it compares favorably with the first movie.

I also cannot believe I stayed away from the spoilers. I'm usually the biggest sucker for checking those out.

Must. Stay. Strong.

I know I've said this before but...

I will not click on spoilers. I will not click on spoilers. I will not click on spoilers. I will not click on spoilers. I will not click on spoilers.

If you're scared of clicking on anything I put in spoilers. DOn't be. I've just been putting my ponderings in spoilers. Just in case.

I'm just trying to keep ahold of my will power. :funny:

Stay strong Marx! I know how hard it is believe me. Everytime I see that little box I move my cursor over it, bow my head, and move on.

The only ones I'd hate being the killer are...

Any of the original 3. Those are literally the only ones that I'd sit back and go WTF now would they do something like this?

That's moreso speculative than spoilerish but I agree. I think
they missed the boat for that

If he was a killer in Scream 2 I would accept it but now it would be hard to believe.

I agree with kickass's review of the film for the most part. Now, I saw it a while ago (one of the first test screens), so they may have some reshoots or something in it now I didn't see. But, I doubt it is much different.

I saw the trailer for this attached to Insidious when I went to see it earlier, was awesome to see on the big screen. Just a mere two weeks until the movie itself is out.

*scrolls down manicially into this thread to avoid spoilers*

No spoilers in reviews here right?

Gah. I should stay out of this thread. It's so hard to though. I should. The movie is two weeks away and I can't be spoiled now.

Nice review, kickass. Glad you enjoyed it.

Although your comment about some people may hate who the killer turns out to be worries me.

I can easily post the killer's name right here right now and everyone would say "Omg ________ is the killer?! That ****ing sucks!".
The thing is, it shouldn't be so much about WHO the killer is, but WHY they are killing. I think the WHY in Scream 4 is a sign of the times and not only sick, but very RELEVANT.

I trust you guys on this site. IMDB however........people love to type topics like:

OMG!______ IS THE KILLER! AWWEESOOOMME!

That sort of stuff is just not cool.

It is taking a lot of will power to avoid spoilers. Just posting it in a topic would suck.

Really? Then I'm guessing this person or persons really do not fit the kind of Ghostface profile we've come to accept if they would evoke that kind of reaction.

Well it's at least good to know they have a solid motive for doing this. That was my main concern about Scream 4. I just couldn't fathom why someone would pick up the Ghostface mantle after 10 years and go after Sidney.

Isn't that a good thing then? ;)

I want to say, but I won't. I really hope everyone here enjoys the hell out of this flick. It has a lot to say. And the finale act is probably, in my opinion, my favourite from all the other Scream films.

I don't know. I hope so. It could go either way. If it's someone who is completely implausible as a killer, or one of the main trio, then I think it'll be a big no no.

Can't wait.

One question though, I know there's probably several references to the original Scream, with it being on the anniversary of the Woodsboro murders and all, but is there any references to parts 2 and 3?

Also does Randy get a mention?

Randy, yes. But it's very brief.

None that I noticed.

Wes Craven has a cameo in the film as well, but I couldn't find him anywhere!

You can PM me any thoughts or theories you guys may have. I won't spoil it for anyone because I want everyone to like it as much as I did! :)

LOL. When you guys finally see the movie, read my spoiler boxes. You'll L-O-L.

It wouldn't make any sense ... He's like the comedic relief and people love him so it would ruin the first three because you'd be thinking he's a scumbag instead of smiling at his oafishness.

It might not of been so bad in Scream 2 because we knew him a little bit less.
