Gotham Sean Pertwee is Alfred Pennyworth

I can't say much regarding Alfred yet. Let's see how it plays out so far I don't like that he isn't more like a father figure to Bruce, he seems more rough around the edges.

Before a week ago, Bruce had a father. Alfred was the butler. The relationship is going to develop and grow. They are all each other has.

I must say that I enjoyed seeing Bruce bring him down a peg at the end of the episode.

That was a neat touch. Bruce is definitely no pushover.

He is a bit unlikeable at the moment, but I'm sure they'll soften him out as the series progresses.

I found him rather unlikable as well but am willing to see where the writers take the character.

God, Sean's the spitting image of his dad! :woot:

I hate the Earth One characterization. That's why i don't like what i've seen so far.

Both Earth One and BTB's are my least favorite versions of Alfred.

Perhaps they chose this interpretation of Alfred so he could train Bruce (keeping the character on the show) instead of him going off and traveling the world to train.

I'll...accept this. Only on the condition that by the time the show ends that Alfred doesn't get trigger happy with Cobblepot and whoever's next on Geoff Johns' hit list in his Earth One follow-up.

''GET YOUR BLOODY ARSE DOWN FROM OFF THERE''. :hehe:

Also, I adored the Beware the Batman Alfred. It's what this show should be striving for.

Not really feeling Alfred, at all. One of the few disappointments I had with the pilot.

I thought he was one of the highlights. When he's hugging Bruce at the crime scene, that short exchange with Gordon is perfect. He just sadly tells the new guy Gordon "good luck" because he knows how ****ed up the city is.

The relationship between Bruce and Alfred was surprisingly well done in a short amount of time, relative to basically every other relationship we see in the pilot. Most of Gordon's various relationships are just beginning. Most of Bullock's various relationships are played as having a lot of history that will be uncovered.

Alfred comes from a military background and wants Bruce to have that military strength, because that's what he knows best. Bruce knows that Alfred, now his legal guardian and surrogate father, has always had his best interests heart. That's why he accepts the gruffness and for the most part doesn't have a problem with it. That moment after Alfred hugs him when tries to toughen him up is clearly not the first time Alfred has been tough on him, because Bruce obliges immediately like it's nothing new. But at the end of the day, the kid has the authority to put his foot down. And he does in that last scene, when Alfred is being skeptical of Gordon for Bruce's sake. There is a mutual respect between this ex-Marine (who, again, is now his legal guardian and could just as easily send him off to another room while the grown ups talk about murder and police corruption) and this odd 12-year-old kid. It has existed before we meet them and looks to be tested going forward. It's an interesting friendship to explore.

He really his a spitting image of his father, can't wait to see how the Docto... I mean Alfred develops over the first season! :)

One of my nitpicks of the Pilot. Hard to understand the actor who played Alfreds dialogue.

The only part I had a hard time understanding was him yelling at Bruce to get down. Otherwise, I understood him fine.

Great. He's got the same accent as I have. Lucky we're on an internet forum or I'll need subtitles.

There was only 1 moment where i didnt understand what he said. In the room with Gordon and Bruce, i think it was the last thing he says to Gordon if im not mistaken. I didnt understand a word.

Just scrap this Earth One nonsense. Don't try and soften him and find a middle ground just scrap it and pretend he was never the jerk he was in the episodes already shot. He is the worst thing in this show, which I am mostly enjoying.

Another episode where Alfred was blah.

I don't like earth one alfred being used here.I hope it's not the same In BVS.

Earth One Alfred is truly awful and so is this Alfred. He's the biggest jerk of the show even over Bullock.

That "sneaking up on people" line that he yelled at Bruce was ridiculous. I can understand the use of a more Earth One-like Alfred, but that was way over the top. It's not like Bruce snuck into Alfred's room or something. It was the living room.
