I was debating whether or not to create a thread for this episode since a lot of stuff from this has been posted in the General Discussion and Tyler Hoechlin threads.

Nevertheless, here's the description for Supergirl's part of the crossover:

THE BATTLE CONCLUDES — Supergirl (Melissa Benoist), The Flash (guest star Grant Gustin), Green Arrow (guest star Stephen Amell) and Superman (guest star Tyler Hoechlin) engage in the battle of their lives. Jesse Warn directed the episode with story by Marc Guggenheim and teleplay by Derek Simon & Robert Rovner (#409). Original airdate 12/11/2018.

Trailer #1 (Oliver is Barry):

Trailer #2 (Barry is Oliver):

Trailer #3: (We're Sisters):

Trailer #4 (Batwoman):

Official Promo (Show Them What a God Is):

They're saving the big one for Supergirl as this has to take place in Earth-38 since we know both Martian Manhunter and Brainiac 5 are involved as well.

Relieved to see that "Marc Guggenheim is writing the whole thing this year" was just exaggeration by Amell. The "story" was his - that's fine. Never been a big fan of Derek Simon, but Rovner and Warn should ensure this is at least a solid conclusion.

Yep writing the story is one thing, but writing the screenplay is another.

Are there plot descriptions anywhere of the first two episodes?

Here's The Flash:
EPIC ELSEWORLDS CROSSOVER KICKS OFF TONIGHT — When Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and Oliver Queen (guest star Stephen Amell) wake up one morning and realize they have swapped bodies with each other, the two set off to find out what disturbed the timeline to cause such a shift. However, things quickly go from bad to worse when they present their case to Team Flash and the gang doesn’t believe them. Barry and Oliver realize they need Supergirl’s (guest star Melissa Benoist) help and travel to Smallville on Earth-38 where they end up meeting Kara’s cousin, Clark Kent (guest star Tyler Hoechlin), and intrepid reporter, Lois Lane (guest star Elizabeth Tulloch). LaMonica Garrett guest stars as The Monitor. Kevin Tancharoen directed the episode written by Eric Wallace & Sam Chalsen (#509)."

And Arrow:
THE ELSEWORLDS CROSSOVER CONTINUES IN GOTHAM CITY WITH BATWOMAN (RUBY ROSE) — With Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Barry (guest star Grant Gustin) still stuck in the other’s bodies, the two get a lead on John Deegan (guest star Jeremy Davies) and head to Gotham City with Supergirl (guest star Melissa Benoist) to figure out why their reality has changed. While there, they meet the mysterious Kate Kane (guest star Ruby Rose) who provides them with information that leads the group to Arkham Asylum. James Bamford directed the episode with teleplay by Marc Guggenheim and story by Caroline Dries (#709)."
Gotta say, I'm a little disappointed Larry Teng didn't direct one this year. Also, with Bamford directing the Arrow ep, prepare for Kara to be at her cheesiest (in terms of poses/shirt rips). His directing of her never fails to make me cringe at points, as he always has her doing the most, and it's always entirely unnatural, lol.

Thanks

Makes me wonder then Kara been in Smallville will we see Clark and/or Lois in next weeks episode in a minor cameo at end.

I do think Ep2 will be Black Suit Superman’s entrance and I think Red/Blue Supes will cameo at the end leading into Part 3.

Yep, that sounds about right. I think, whether she goes to Clark at the end of the ep or not, something big's going down with the Children of Liberty at the end of the next ep to drive her there.

My understanding of TV series writing is that it’s mostly done by the showrunner(s) - usually in collaboration with the writers’ room collective. I.e., the major story arcs and plot points (for the entire season and down to individual episodes) are already sketched out before a writer (or a writing team) is assigned the task of turning outline into finished teleplay. This means that praise (or blame :word:) for the basic story structure should go to the showrunner - inasmuch as the credited writer (unless s/he’s also a showrunner) had little latitude in terms of how the plot, character progression, etc. could unfold. Said writer must, as it were, “color within the lines.”

So… it’s entirely possible that a big cheese like Guggenheim is the main architect of the “Elseworlds” crossover - notwithstanding who gets the official writing credits.

I wish so much I could watch this live.

Is it too much to ask for Tyler's version of Superman to be the one to land the final blow/hit on the evil version for this episode?

Basic story, yes. Everything else (which is the bulk of TV writing)? Nah. There's a marked difference between the writing last night and tonight, and we should see a difference again in this episode. Marc Guggenheim didn't write "all" of this by ANY stretch of the imagination. He wrote that things needed to go from A to B to C, etc, but HOW they get there has clearly been written by other people.

Props to his most direct involvement on Part II. Overall, I'm not digging this as much as the last few crossovers since this is a standard episode plot stretched across three.

lol, I was waiting around for his 2nd crossover appearance last episode.
Since Barry & Flash got tit for tat on each other in their respective episodes and with Supergirl being locked up, maybe Supes will get the most screentime here.

I am just worried that we will see Kara defeat yet another version of Superman by herself, only the difference here being that our Superman will be on the sidelines.

Just for once, i would like to see Superman defeat the main villain of the episode especially now since this is during a crossover event.

Writing the story and script are two different things.

If Supergirl ends up defeating black suit Superman, then I have to wonder what would the point be in having regular Superman there.

On the other hand we could see the other side of the Superman/ Supergirl fight with a twist.

I actually just saw that promo only a few minutes ago.

However, I still can't say that my concerns are gone. We know by set photos that supergirl participates in the final battle. The only real mystery is how black suit superman is defeated. I would settle for a group effort where Superman plays a vital role but definitely not one where he is defeated by someone else just to prop them up.

I thought the mystery was how this Black Suit Superman came to be...I should've gambled the 'Dr Destiny' theory.

This Black Suit Superman seems to be based on Justice Lord Superman from how things seem in the promo.

I hope Black Superman is defeated by a Kryptonite-wielding Batman.

even if in the last episode of season 2 clark thought he was going full power i suspect he was not when supergirl defeated him. I also think the CW will just forget that reference.. i also think that the subject Clark wanted to talk to Kara about from the elseworlds first episode was about all the kryptonite he took from the DEO. I suspect he now wants to give it back-with all these Argo kryptonians around.

However the most important thing to remember is the CW Elseworlds Poster. It has Lois Lane holding something that looks like a hammer. I suspect it will smash the lock on the Reality book and enable them to correct things. Look at that poster again

That's an interesting and great idea! And I too hope Superman gets to be defeat Overlord Superman. It may be Supergirl's show but give the Man of Steal his due.

100% John Deegan is Black Suit Superman.

Looks to me like Barry & Oliver our of action and Kara caged that’s Cisco will likely go to Earth 38 to bring Superman back to stop the evil Superman. I get the feeling the heroes still have their powers but they need to embrace them to remember them or something. Kind of those the powers always been within you things.

It’s gonna be Lois with that hammer. I think I like that better aswell.

That would go well with her first meeting with Barry and Oliver where she's holding a regular hammer.

Yes I never considere that, I wonder if they'll crack a joke about it.
