THOMAS LENNON (“RENO 911”) GUEST STARS IN SUPERGIRL’S 100TH EPISODE – Mxyzptlk (guest star Thomas Lennon) returns with a proposition for Kara (Melissa Benoist) – what if she could go back in time and tell Lena (Katie McGrath) her secret before Lex did, would things turn out different? Looking back over key moments throughout the series, Kara must decide if she wants to change history to become friends with Lena again. Familiar faces return in this special episode. Jesse Warn directed the episode with story by Robert Rovner & Jessica Queller and teleplay by Derek Simon & Nicki Holcomb (#513). Original airdate 2/23/2020.

I want to like this, but this is not the right synopsis to do a milestone episode with.

I'm guessing there are a few more "what ifs" than that one, because that one wouldn't require them to go back more than a few months, lol.

For example, we saw set pics of
Kara revealing to the world that she's Supergirl, so I think they might be running through other scenarios (like "what if I never had a secret identity at all") of what she could've done differently.

I'm hoping for much, much more. Sometimes it seems like the showrunners get the SCers all excited, and then slam them. It almost seems like they enjoy doing that....

It's nice to see Chris back. It's sad that they were never able to properly course correct Mon-El enough to keep him around.

This won't happen and it's more just me spitballing, but I'd love if when they went back to the Season-1 era moments of Supergirl, in the corner of the screen we saw the CBS logo instead of the CW one. But that's more of a Scrubs sort of thing to do.

Mostly spoiler free review of the 100th episode 'Supergirl' 100th episode secrets: A Kryptonian and a Luthor | Hypable. The episode is very Kara focused. For what it's worth the author ranks it as their third favorite episode of the season behind episodes one and eight. They also thought it was better than Arrow and Flash's 100the episodes were. What makes me happy is "The ending solidifies how much Kara has grown over her years as Supergirl, while still showing that she’s not perfect. She’s doing the best she can, which is all anyone should ask of her.", I think Melissa will be very happy if that's what the audience takes away from the episode. Overall the review is positive.

100th episodes are tricky, there's balance between doing a one off, which some will scream is filler, and integrating it in the overall season arc. There's also things that are out of the EPs hands specifically if certain characters aren't in the episode. I'll take any Cat Grant I can get but if Calista's unavailable there's nothing anyone involved with the show can do. I firmly believe that Calista and probably a few others were asked to be part of the episode and were unavailable or declined, either way if we don't see them it wasn't for lack of trying on the EPs part. This is an official notice that I will call out anyone who complains if in fact we don't see Cat.

Great episode of Supergirl as I feel it’s likely a preview of the second half of the 5th season.

Not bad for the 100th episode. They could have done more with it, but overall still enjoyable. Set things up for the second half of the season at least.

It was fairly enjoyable with all the what-if scenarios but there was no real consequence...messing with time to the extant Mr. Mx did...take it and have some repercussions!

I am 100% over the secret identity plotline!

Also this episode felt out of place with the 2nd half of the current season. It feels like it could have aired after the episode where Lena tried to use the 1st season project on Earth.

A solid 100th, I thought. It was nice seeing those old faces back again (yes, even Mon-El). Especially Sam, though. I still feel like there would've been a place for her to stick around outside of being Reign - hell, with a little plot-tweaking, she could've totally filled the role Andrea is playing this season. She and Kara had a lot in common that they never got to explore, PLUS she had a pre-existing friendship with Lena going already and had an episode or two bonding with Alex, so she kinda fit right in with the group. Odette had strong chemistry with most of the cast, I thought. Then there's the whole fact that they barely scraped the surface of the Worldkiller lore and didn't even bother including Zor-El's part in their creation. I just feel like jettisoning her character immediately once she was "cured" was kind of a big missed opportunity. But oh well.

Loved Thomas Lennon as Mxy. My one complaint about their handling of him this time is that they made him too soft there at the end. Mxy should never be that sincere, lol. I really liked the concept of this being some kind of 5th-dimensional community service he was being forced to do to pay for previous misdeeds, so they should've kept him as more of malevolent trickster who really hated having to do this, imo. But regardless, I would definitely love to see him again, maybe next time with his wife, Gspltlnzl.

Good progression on the Kara/Lena front. Kara needed to draw that line and Lena needed to hear it. Now if only someone would get her to hear what Mon-El said about Kara being the only one not to hurt her maliciously, because girl REALLY needs to hear that one, lol.

Side note: I kind of prefer this alternate villain origin story of Ben Lockwood/Agent Liberty.

I thought this was quite solid - the first episode in a l-o-n-g time that I actually enjoyed. The actor playing Myx was lots of fun (normally, I loathe the character); and Benoist anchored the whole thing. Also, for a largely lighthearted/comedic romp, there was a surprising amount of action and stunts - most of which looked pretty good. (Perhaps they economized on prior episodes to spend on the 100th? :word:)

Anyhoo, kudos.

“I hear fifth dimensional interventions do wonders for one’s perspective.” Even a superhero sometimes needs a reminder of some universal truths. I actually think the seeds were planted by the end of episode eight. Remember Kara wasn’t happy when Alex suggested going to Lena in part one of CoIE. In episode 10 Kara was understandably thrown off that Lena remembered but by the end she made what felt like one finale plea and gave Lena a choice. Kara hadn’t asked Lena to forgive her since then. Sometimes you have to hit a low to really start listening to what others are telling you. I’m thinking of the first eight episodes as Kara reaching a low point in her response to Lena’s actions. She heard what Alex said in episode eight but wasn’t ready to accept it. It sorta reminds of the season three premier it took everyone to break the shell Kara had built around herself. James and Lena put dents in the shell, Alex used those dents to make a big crack which J’onn used to bust it open.

Lena now knows Kara will hold her accountable for her actions. She won’t be able to use Kara’s empathy or guilt anymore. Apparently were goanna get a role reversal with Lena apologizing and trying to make it up to Kara. 'Supergirl' bosses unpack that decisive Kara-Lena scene in the 100th episode
I hope the truth seeker is part of it. Will Kara ever truly be able to trust Lena again, I’m excited to find out.

During the last scene after Kara smiles it became Melissa, Chyler and David instead of the characters three people who were brought together by work but will forever be part of each other’s lives. It almost felt intrusive.

Also this episode felt out of place with the 2nd half of the current season. It feels like it could have aired after the episode where Lena tried to use the 1st season project on Earth.
The next episode was CoIE part one, it had to wait we needed to find about how being on Earth-Prime effected things.

I'd like to imagine that Mxyzptlk's "I never understood what you saw in him" in regards to Kara and Mon-El probably made a lot of the people who didn't like that relationship happy. Though I didn't really mind Kara and Mon-El, I figure that line probably stuck out for most.

Real nice episode! I still groan whenever Kara takes all the blame onto herself about their 'break-up' and it was nice to see her finally put the line down between her and Lena. She's apologized enough and now Lena has to stop acting like a spoiled baby when someone unintentionally hurts her.

As Mon-el said, Kara was the only one who hurt Lena without any malicious intent. It's way past time for Lena to see that!

As or 100th episodes, I think people put too much expectations of something spectacular and mind blowing. This was a nice look back on the Kara/Lena arc, and having Thomas Lennon playing Myx was great! The trouble they had at the end and the team-up was pretty cool. I really liked it.

And look, no music video fight scene!!

It was nice to see old cast members return but I wish they had Calista Flockhart. I miss the interactions between her and Melissa.

Also good to finally see some movement forward on Kara and Lena's relationship at the end, instead of remaining at an impasse.

But how could Kara really change history? Wouldn't that undo some of Crisis? If certain things happened, Lena might not have been able to move billions of people off Earth 38. Or Kara might've died and couldn't be the paragon of hope to work alongside the other heroes. It seems to conflict with that. Couldn't Myxy also take them back in time before Nash Wells unleashed the anti-monitor?

Simple solutions to complex problems which they can't use because they have to have complex solutions.
But, I think with the universes now being condensed down into one, it's possible they can't go into an alternate universe past that no longer exists. Going into the past means going into the past of the current blended universe that they are in.
And we did see one version where Kara died from her making a different choice, so I think it probably would been the same.

Side note: I kind of prefer this alternate villain origin story of Ben Lockwood/Agent Liberty.

Not gonna lie, I really like the idea of the Cult of Rao killing themselves because they think they will be saved by Kara. It takes that one famous bit with Superman and the teenage jumper and just twists it.

I did like the new Mxy's hair as a subtle attempt at the comic's hair.

I missed Sam. I kinda wished she had stuck around, but oh well. And the other appearances were nice. Though, Guardian Kelly just makes me laugh.

I did love the final bit with Kara and Lena.
