Spider-Man 2 was the closest to a Raimi movie without studio interference (they were more hands-on first time, which is one of the reasons they hired him and compromised his third movie by inserting Venom and the symbiote). But SM1 was very good and SM3 was still pretty good. SM2 was excellent though and the high mark fo superhero movies tto this date.

I say just give him Lizard and say "Marriage." Let him run free. It will turn out much better, I think. I personally owuld recommend ASM #44-#45, the 30th Anniversary 36-something ASM and another from the '90s about drugs as the greatest Lizard storiesand Kraven's Last Hunt but I wouldn't force him.

Besides he'll do what he wants with the movie let it be more complete and make it his full vision. Go out on that.

And I really don't want to see SM4 be about Peter/MJ getting married and it star Shai LeBeouff and Mandy Moore.

Do Spider-Man 4 right and my favorite villain right, the Lizard. After that, Sony can go ruin the franchise for all I care. The important story (the love story) and the best villains will be done.

Oh and Visionary, you bring upa very good point. NOw that Venom is dead we don't have to worry about that anymore. EXCEPT, now we have a few hundred threads in the next year about "BRING VENOM BACK!" or "BRING ON CARNAGE" or some such craziness.

If LeBeouff were cast as Spider-Man, that would suck. Am I the only one who thinks he sucks as an actor?

I agree though, if MJ and Peter are to be married (the next logical step), Tobey and Kirsten should do it. Not recasts (whoever they would be).

Do I want to see him handle Lizard and Tobey and Kirsten handle the Spider-Marriage (or wedding at least)?

Yes. After 4 I think they need to escape before Sony runs it into the ground (which will happen by SM5 or SM6) but I want one more to wrap up the love story and Raimi doing Lizard brings a smile to my face.

So, yeah.

My thoughts exactly.

Only if THE LIZARD is the main villain, should Sam Raimi return to do SM4 with the same cast. If not, then a new director should take the helm, along with a new cast. There is nothing wrong with finding new blood to write, direct or star in a Spider-Man film, as long as they take your time to find the right people.

I would also like to see new writers working on SM4, regardless of whether Raimi is still the director. New blood is needed no matter what. I'd like to see Sony hire writer(s) outside of the previous films. This means no David Koepp, Alvin Sargent, Alfred Gough & Miles Millar, Sam Raimi, Ivan Raimi, etc.

If there's no new blood in the writing department, then maybe it's best for a new director to come in, and shake things up in all departments for the better.

100% agreed. Should Raimi tell the story of the lizard, a character who's been built up since the 1st movie (via passing comment) then I'd want him to stay, especially since his best work on the spidey series has been the latest (sm3). However, if not then, toss him. I'm all for new blood, especially when it comes to casting Pete and MJ. Hell, they should just rid themselves of tmags and cast gyllenhaal. Looks similar, gyllenhaal imo is a more charismatic actor and better suited for the role and also, gyllenhaal is in much better physical shape and has a believable body to be spider-man. Gyllenhaal can easily bang out 3 movies, 4 to 6 to complete the series.

But anyway, Raimi should only stay if he'll do Lizard's story.

I think I'm the only person here who doesn't think we'll be getting a wedding. With Gwen now apart of these movies, Pete marrying MJ at least in sm4 will invalidate Gwen being attributed into the franchise.Gwen's character needs to be explored more and to be fair, Pete needs to be in a relationship with someone other than MJ, in fact, I hope they kill off MJ and make Gwen Pete's destined love. Hey, if the 90s animted series that is so highly praised can get away with screwin' up relationships then the movies can also.

Who did Stan Lee say of, "It would be a shame if any one but him gets to make the Spider-Man movie?"

MJ's time to die was SM3... it didn't happen there hence it never will... Gwen is gone in SM4 guaranteed.... first her father somewhere in Act 2.... then Gwen in the finale... but don't think they have fleshed out the love triangle just yet... I still think Gwen will hit on Pete in SM4 and maybe even Pete makes a move while MJ is hitting it big on Broadway and spending less time with Parker... either this or Felicia becomes front and center and Gwen is written out... but SM3 didn't go through all that just to write out Gwen... so kill her in SM4.... then you have room for Black Cat in SM5... makes perfect sense no?

No. Why make room for BC? Whats the point of introducing a character that an existing character can already do, minus the whole wild-side/vigilante/cta-burglar antics. I don't see any purpose BC can serve other than tempting Peter's hormonal emotions, something Gwen can do. I don't see Gwen dying and nor do I think she should die at all let alone in sm4. However, should Gwen die, it should happen either in sm5 or 6. When it comes to relationships with girls, Gwen and MJ are the most important, so this angle should be exploited as much as possible. Killing off Gwen in sm4 cheapens the potential great-impact the character should leave stamped on pete and in these movies.

Does anyone seriously think Raimi would stick around for another 10 years for another trilogy?

Raimi should stick around.

It would 110% guarantee Venom or any of the other symbiote related garbage wouldn't be used again.

Though, Brock did get a nice final demise in Spidey 3.

He should go since he doesn't like or get modern-day villains like Venom and Carnage.

Well I really don't see this great potential you see with Gwen. It sounds like you want her to be the next Harry Osborn for 4-6... you said it yourself that her only purpose in SM3 was to tempt Peter's hormones... what more can she do beyond that? All she adds is an additional emotional element (that will probably still relate to sex) in Parker's life... its another person that fits the "ones I love will be the ones who pay" bill. If you want to switch it up and make her BC in SM4 then thats fine and dandy with me, but then why wasn't it Felicia in SM3... The buildup to her inevitable death is all a mute point... it would only serve as a contrived plot trick to further insinuate Parker to bring justice to the villain responsible for Gwen's death... Gwen would be the primary love interest in SM4 with MJ having a limited role... her death in the final act or the middle of SM5 would still have a tremendous emotional impact if done right... but other than that I don't see this grand potential you are talking about... Black Cat is simply too multi-dimensional a character to be ignored as you may want to... there is serious potential there whether you want to admit that or not

Hmm. I don't know. I want to see some new ideas and all that, but I don't want anything to be ruined. Let the Spider-Man franchise be Sam's.

Oh look, he's holding three f****** Oscars.
I always though of Jim Cameron as more of an X-Men director. Lord knows he blows Bryan Singer out of the water when it comes to setting up kick ass fight/action sequences, and he's displayed a good knack for ensemble piece directing in films such as "Aliens" and "The Abyss".

I agree totally but unfortunately i think he's beyond spiderman:csad:

He's intention was more than 10 years ago. If its something that technically has already been made i think he passes on it.
It would be great but i doubt it. Besides he has the next 7 years or so booked with the battle angel trilogy.

i think we need a new director to give the movies a different feel, almost a reboot but not. A different directors perspective could breath life into a new trilogy without re-hashing all the tricks used in the previous 3 films. I think its about staying fresh and Raimi, although i love, may become stale by the time SM6 comes out.

sam should return for number four.
let him finish lizard he has been fleshing out conners for three movies.
after they finish lizard let them bring in whoever as spidey 5 onwards is bound to be rubbish. I was only bothered by GG/doc ock (my favorite)/sandman/lizard - don't mind electro other than that I couldn't care less. I also hate venom so glad he's dead.

wait but if raimi leaves tobey leaves right? i think raimi can do one more than im sick of him. but it just depends. i want to see carnage played by johnnyknocksville lol but hell never even consider carnage. so raimi can stay imo but he needs to be under less pressure of picking the right villians

Who was rumored to be Parker in Cameron's vision?
Legend has it that Cameron wanted Michael Biehn, who played the doomed hero soldier Kyle Reese in Cameron's original Terminator and Corporal Dwayne Hicks in Cameron's "Aliens", to play Parker. Biehn was in his late 30s then. In retrospect, I think Biehn would have been better suited to someone like Cyclops or Captain America.

I'm sure there are a few who feel as you do. That's one of the reasons I started the thread, to give a voice to all.

That's kind of a weak and narrow viewpoint. What are your reasons for believing Tmags, Dunst and co are the be all to end all of live action spidey?

Sure it wasnt that he had Biehn in mind for the guy with Electro's powers? I've read Cameron's proposed script, and it definately called for a young Spider-Man who like in Sam's film, graduates High School during the story.

C'mon, his scriptment for Spiderman was horrible. Spidey started working with Electro as a villain and then had sex with MJ on top of the Brooklyn Bridge, while still in his costume and MJ didn't know who it was!?!?!?!!?

Just 'cos he has Oscars doesn't meant that he gets SPider-Man or that Titanic was that good.
