That's the million dollar question in the midst of all the box office returns, critical evaluations and general fan dispute: should Sam Raimi direct the alleged Spider-Man 4, 5 and 6 that Marvel and Sony want, or is it time for Raimi to move on and let a new person take charge of the franchise?

I think he did is time and some one else should continue. In spiderman 3 Raimi looked tired the movie was too long and too much romance. A director it s like a presiedent terms after a triology we should let some one else take the chair. :woot:

If it is like a presidency, my vote goes toward his reelection!

RAIMI FOR SPIDER-MAN 4 DIRECTOR!!!

If not a director, I hope that Raimi stays on as a producer and story editor to help out. To be involved in some fashion at least.

But he deserves to do whatever he want now though. But I still think doing the Hobbit is a bad idea. He should probably just take some time and be with his family as Amy Pascal suggested.

maybe, Raimi, should bring in someone to like co-director or something, to help take some of the pressure off, i dono
I’d kidna like to see, Kevin Smith attached to this project, in some way, not as lead director or anything, (Smith has said, that he isn't really interested in director big action films, as he doesn't really know how to director action scene that well) but, just having him as one of the writers and helping out, hang out around the set as something of a technically advisors or some BS title like that lol could be cool

I loved S-M1 and S-M2, but was disappointed with S-M3. Sam Raimi has showed that he can make great Spider-Man films. However, I kind of wonder if the franchise will need a new director in order to keep it fresh. I lean towards another director taking the reigns with Raimi taking on the role of a producer.

Granted, he did a fabulous job with the first two, but the proof is in the pudding. First movie with Raimi writing credits= movie with the worst story. Spider-man 3 is a fantastic movie, but we all know that it was not on par with the first two. I think the pressures of a mega-blockbuster franchise are getting to Sam. I think he should be involved with the next pictures, but to a lesser degree.

Sony's going by the MONEY, not disgruntled fanboys, SM3 is kicking SM1/SM2 ass worldwide (...and counting). Without a doubt, Sony/Marvel will want Sam Raimi back, the only way he doesn't come back, if he himself decides to move on, same goes for the current cast.

I don't think they'd get so lucky (financially) after the relative calamity that was Spidey 3 Its only making so much money because its the most anticipated flick since Episode 1. I think people are going to be a lot more cautious of Spidey 4, regardless of who is involved.
Sad to say, but "This could be the end...of Spider-man"('s movie franchise).

Geeze. There are plenty of directors who could make a great Spider-man movie.

We've seen Raimi's version over and over and over again. It would be like if Chris Columbus directed all the Harry Potter movies.

The same recycled crap.

All of those Harry Potter movies look the same, I could never tell when they switched the directors.

The Potter films, while getting a different styles from SS/COS, POA, and GOF, still keep the same core formula, so it is not like their changing directors really matters that much. A Colombus or Cuaron GOF would have been similar. The only really unique one in style and tone was SS, but that is because the universe was established and each director is now keeping to the universe.

I've been hearing this since SM1. Oh no, being that I and some didn't like it, all that comes after it will fall. A silly way of thinking. I love it when people make asinine excuses, as to why SM3 is making a hell of lot of money, for SM1 it was 9/11.

I honestly wouldn't care if they left the franchise alone for a few years or just made Spidey 3 the end of the series, but we all know that'$ not going to happen. So I say keep Raimi as long as he is still interested and passionate about the films. When he's just, in all honesty, finished with this franchise, let the man go. Everyone needs a break, especially someone who works as hard as a director does.

I think SM3 is generally well liked in mixed reviews by the general public. While fanboys will whine I think the immediate shock of the general public (whose complaints seemed less on the structural pacing poblems and underdeveloped or rather not enough screentime use of Sandman and Eddie Brock. They were more along the lines of "EMO PARKER'S DANCING?!?! Why is Venom only in it at the end?!?!") has died down and it is doing very well showing a gneeral affection by the public.

I personally find it is a movie that gets better with repeat viewing and will be accepted well on DVD. If ROTS is liked by the masses as part of Star Wars this can be conisdered part of Spidey (much better movie).

When sM4 rolls around, same cast and director or not people will see it. I think some may be more cautious and wait for reviews but I think it will be a drop comparable to AWE making less than DMC (rightfully so) and SM2 making less than SM1 (not so rightfully).

But SM3 will not kil lthe franchise. Iti s generally considered a good movie and something this large will not crash and tank on the next outing unless iti s a Schumaucher debacle of changing direction.

Don't get me wrong, I love the movie. I've seen it three times. Spider-man 3 is in no way a bad movie, it's simply not up to snuff with the first two. I believe I speak for a lot of people when I say that the final product did not fulfill on what was hyped (as big films like this rarely do). The story and tone of the movie were so different than what's come before, and not in a good way. All I'm saying is, a lot of those people won't get sucked in by the hype again. These movies cost A LOT of money to make and if Sony doesn't recoup enough back, Spidey's movie career is over. This isn't something that's going to happen soon, they may get 3 more movies out before they shut it down; but if the flicks keep straying so badly off the path, we will not be watching new Spider-man movies in 10 years.

You're obviously new to the Hype! So I'll let you in on a little secret, people always b:tch about a Spider-Man movie, it never pleases most people. People ripped apart SM1/SM2 frame by frame (check the archives). They whipped out their mighty comic books, and went to town on how much they hate Raimi's decisions and how the movies should be like this and that--they did some crying and pouting. Then they made SM3 the biggest grossing Spider-Man film of the series worldwide. Oh, the biggest of the series and steadily GROWING BIGGER, go figure.

Thanks for the tip, man. That was a very diplomatic way of telling me to quit my bellyachin' (which I should). I just love the Spider-man universe so much (I have him, Ock and GG tattooed on my arm) that I hate to see the franchise fizzle out like Batman. Or worse yet, continue on putting out flicks that are increasingly bad. I'd like to think of Spidey 3 as a speedbump. Granted, an enjoyable speedbump, but still a speedbump on the road to Spider-man's cinematic reign. It feels like the creators either need to take a break (2 years of production time on a movie of this size is unfathomable) or hand the duties off to a new bunch.

Time will tell, and I do agree that new blood is without a doubt needed. Whether it's the writer(s) or director, depending on the villain(s) a new cast, as well. You can't really make a SM4 movie, if there are no plans to do something radically different for the better. At least that's the way I feel.

You may be satisfied with mediocre Spider-man movies but some of us expect better. Sue us.

I want to see Sam, Kirsten and Tobey in every movie. I don't care if they have to pay them 30 mil a piece. That's what Spider-Man is.

Unless it's a relaunch, no new actors/ directors.
