Should they make another Punisher movie? - Part 1

I know as a whole, these weren't too well received as comics go, but I would love to see a Noir division of films made based of the Marvel Noir universe. Punisher Noir would be cool.

Clearly not the case, though, because the entire reason Jane left in the first place was because he couldn't make it better lol.

As an origin story, the revenge plot can work, but in 89 Punisher and PWZ he's already been The Punisher for like 5 years or something. I think that--while it was handled well in 04--the revenge plot can kinda taint the character, because Frank isn't about revenge on those who killed his family, he's all about his hatred for criminals and wanting them dead. It goes beyond a simple revenge flick.

Honestly, I really don't think we need another origin movie. If they were to somehow get Jane back, you could just open the movie with Frank standing over his family's graves like "In the Beginning." And then you could also re-tell the origin through dream flashbacks like they do in the comic all the time if need be (or similar to how PWZ did it in the graveyard scene). I just don't think it's necessary to rehash the entire damn origin again...it's not a complicated or "new" idea as far as motifs go. Unless it's a specific revenge-against-the-people-who-killed-my-family flick, it's not needed.

I'm with others that I think they should get somebody new and give them a shot at playing Frank Castle/The Punisher.

That's fine. Even if they cast someone new they still wouldn't have to re-do the entire origin.

Okay they can atleast still start in his first year taking down criminals similar to B89.

Let me just say, though: if they do a new Punisher movie? For the love of all that is holy, *don't* go with the Ennis "total sociopath" characterization!

why not? that would be an amazing route to take with him and a smart screen writer would play that angle beautifully, Frank is not supposed to be someone we cheer for, on the contrary, Frank is a manifestation of our own monstrous feelings towards injustice, he does the things we wish we could do to criminals when the system fails, he evil but he is on OUR side.

it will only show just how ugly, disgusting and disturbing the villains are when we are rooting for a murderer.

Because there is absolutely no reason to, and it detracts from his own origin: he can't be both a man out for revenge for the death of his family *and* a soulless sociopath at the same time. One or the other has to go.

He can start out for revenge for the death of his family and later become the soulless sociopath. Be a nice character development/transformation.

That's basically how it played out in 04. He finished the Saints off, wrestled with suicide for a bit, and came out the other side having made the decision to commit himself fully to his war on ******s everywhere.

...then why do you need a remake at all? Just put the 04 version in your bluray/dvd player lol.

I'm saying Castle should start out just wanting revenge for his family and than deciding to go after criminals the rest of his life.

i actually meant over time like through sequels. First 2 films have him just out for revenge but after he kills all criminals that was apart of his family death he than changes to going after all criminals. Why I said Jigsaw could be the main villian in the second film. He would be the hitmen that killed Frank's family by accident in the first flick. But Frank did not finally take him down until the second film. In first film at the end he could disfigure Jigsaw face like what he did in PWZ and thinking that he died but he was still alive, and when he finds out he than goes after jigsaw.

Meh I was fine with the origin being a little revenge driven, but beyond that, it's not what The Punisher is about. Two films of him getting revenge for his family is overkill IMO.

I think a Punisher series on HBO or Cinemax would work just as well if not better then yet another film and even if it lasted only one season it would still add up to about 6-12 hours of Punisher stories.

I don't recall Ennis' Punisher being a soulless sociapath...

What, exactly, about continuing to wage war against criminals means Frank turned into a sociopath? The two have absolutely nothing in common. Particularly since the thing that kept him from killing himself was memories of happier times, and he specifically made a point to give both some help and an explanation to his neighbors.

2004 Frank Castle was far from a sociopath, beginning and end.

Why not both do a tv series and film series. In the 90s batman had a cartoon series and movie franchise.

Well Marvel or whoever has the rights would want to make even more money so it makes sense in a way. Plus as a fan you get to see Punisher on televison and on screen.

I think Hensleigh said it best, Castle is basically a functioning psychopath. The extended cut made him even more so by forcing Jimmy Weeks to commit suicide in front of him.

What Frank Castle is, is a deeply traumatized man who deals with said trauma via obsession. He is neither a sociopath nor a psychopath. If he were, he wouldn't be waging said war in the first place.

Nothing about waging a war of revenge requires mental illness; if anything, a lack of response to his situation would be a sign of scary mental illness. When someone kills your whole family, you're *supposed* to feel angry.
