^ Exactly and thats the way Punisher has to go uless if he goes to tv. He failed 3 times at the movies. Time to try something different.
But he didn't fail 3 times. The Dolph Lundgren one went straight to video in the U.S. and no one liked it. I can't find any info on how the film did when it got theatrical release everywhere else, however.
The 2004 film did fine at the box-office(but was harmed due to opening up against Kill Bill) and did even better on DVD. It's those DVD sales that made Marvel and Lion's Gate decide to do a sequel.
That said, the 2004 film DID NOT FAIL! It's Lion's Gate that ****ed up and ruined the third one.
What does this mean? Good acting, a good story and good director can result in a good Punisher film.
By your logic, if the Punisher tanked three times, why would anyone waste their time? If you were a casual film/tv fan, aware that War Zone was a cinematic abortion, and were of the belief that the prior two films were also awful, 1. Why would you waste your money on a new, straight to DVD Punisher film? Add to that the bad rap that straight to DVD movies get, Marvel wouldn't be looking at a profit. 2. Why would you waste time watching a TV show knowing the fact that the movies sucked? If the movies sucked, why would the show be any better?
I really doubt we're gonna get an HBO show or a Showtime show. We're going to get another movie. And how that movie does comes down to the talent involved. I still don't think he'll get a straight to DVD movie though. Marvel's proven with their movies that they know what they're doing. A theatrical Punisher film is coming.
