One thing I've learned about Mysterio - people either love him or hate him.... (I haven't seen too many "in-betweens"...)

To be perfectly honest, though, the "fishbowl" wouldn't look TOO much more ridiculous than the original GG's suit.

Besides, as I said, there'd be THE LIZARD TOO. Therefore, those who HATE Mysterio would have the Lizard as sort of a "crutch" to their tolerance of this movie, whereas Mysterio LOVERS would be content beyond compare.

Yes and knowing Sam Raimi it will be wedded bliss with Peter.She has been captured by two big time super villains twice and has not had so much as a scratch on her.

I hate to admit it cos I want her dead too but I'm facing reality here.The villain will be a side note again to her and her love story.I can feel it in my bones

It's not up to just Sam Raimi, who decides what villain or villainS will be in the movie. He likes to make you believe that he decides, but in truth, that belongs to the one (Marvel) who owns Spidey and the one (Sony) who pays for the budget.

I wonder if Sam is in a greater position of control since the first two Spidey movies did so well. Maybe he HAS been given carte blanche by Marvel/Sony at this point...stranger things have happened.

I'm sure he has his share of power, no doubt, but anything he comes up with including the villain/villains can be vetoed my Sony/Marvel...mostly Marvel...being that Arad said that they have final say over the script/costume...which includes the villain/villains.

I don't know if this has been addressed already in this rather large thread, but I didn't feel like searching back, so I deeply apologize if it has... :

Who do you guys feel the Lizard SHOULD be paired with in a movie, if anyone at all? Like I've stated before, I personally want Mysterio (the psychological threat) and the Lizard (the physical threat) as the pair of villains in one of these sequels - for some "can't put my finger on it" reason, Harry/Green-Goblin and the Lizard together just doesn't sit well with me...

Oh well, that's just my opinion. Yours? Who do YOU guys feel would "compliment" the Lizard best in a movie, or would a storyline with JUST the Lizard be best?

Just bringing this thread up to date in light of Columbia's announcement that Thomas Haden Church has been cast as the yet-unnamed villain in SM3.

It doesn't look too good for Lizzy's chances at being in SM3, but.....

I think they just needed a better know Actor for Curt Connors, so they chose Church.

We got connors.
we got jameson jr.
and we got harry.
All of them are there for a reason.

1: For me, one thing is unavoidable: Raimi has to tie up Harrys loose end. Harry will lose his mind and do something terrible. But what?
Maybe sabotage an experiment of Dr. Connors (involving accelerated mutation), an experiment in which Peter could be Connors assistant.
Enter the Lizard.
Harry somehow convinces Connors that it was Peters fault. the Lizard attacks Spidey.

2: We cant have MJ as an Hostage again, now can we? no. thats why we`ll kidnap Jameson jr. this time. Now jjj is really pissed at spidey, cause, you gessed it, Harry (more and more becoming GG by now) also manages to let the public believe it was spiderman who snatched jameson jr. away. remember: Lizards can stick to walls too. connors doesnt have to have a fully developed tail by then or harry just cuts it off. hehe, it grows back, doesnt it?

3: spidey trys talking some sense into connors: tells him that harry set him up, manipulated him etc. And eventually, with a little help of connors family he succedes.
Now, together they take on Harry ( a by now full fledged GG. that last scorn by MJ gave him that last shove he needed). they fight. Spidey wins of course, although connors could find his end here, cause we wont need him anymore. In sacrificing himself he saves the day. But harry was tempering with connors Bio-mutagenic Stuff when Spidey busted in, so jameson jr. gets somehow covered by some experimental stuff.

4: the set up for the fourth sequel: Jameson jr. will become Venom. ..and try denying THAT to the fans by then.

or am i completely offt rack?

OK, I'll offer an opinion.

I agree with your "physical and psychological" threats scenario. It just makes sense that if Spidey is fighting two villains in one film, they have to have very different styles. Thus we must say NO to ideas like Venom/Lizard, Man-Wolf/Lizard, etc for obvious reasons of redundancy.

That being said, I also think that other "non-physical"-fighing villains like Electro and Hydro-Man could share a film with a monster villain, but the problem there is that their powers are quite cliche'd in the realm of SF/fantasy. I also feel the same way about Sandman, to be honest.

I'm actually OK with Lizard sharing the screen with GG2 or Hobgoblin, since those characters are more technological villans than Lizard is, so there's still a difference. Plus, there can indeed be some psychological torture or mindgames coming from Harry if he's responsible for whatever goblin villain we might see.

Plus, I've said for a long time that introducing the Maggia/Mafia-type organized crime characters like Hammerhead, Silvermane, Tombstone, etc could work well with a Lizard story much like the classic Stone Tablet storyline from ASM # 70-77.

Regarding Lizzy having his own solo movie-- that would be great and I'd love it from a fanboy standpoint. However, based on the storylines that have taken place in the past two movies, and the fact that Otto Octavius was incorrectly portrayed as a character similar to Curt Connors in SM2, I have to say that a Jekyll/Hyde scientist storyline in SM3 really needs another element thrown into the mix. Two villains is the best bet this time around.

So in a nutshell, I'm OK with:

Lizard/GG2
Lizard/Hobgoblin
Lizard/Mysterio
Lizard/Maggia characters (Tombstone, Hammerhead, etc)
Lizard/Electro (in a pinch)
