Okay, so with the recent rumor of Marion Cotillard and the official casting call for a European actress, I know most of you immediately thought of Talia(with good reason). However, considering characters and actors confirmed to be in the movie, I honestly don't see Talia fitting in anymore like I used to.

So I made this thread so I don't take over the Talia thread.

The reason I believe the female role is Sofia is because when Deadline reported actresses reading for 2 Female roles in TDKR, it was reported one was a love interest for Bruce and the other was a villain. The female villain roster in the Bat-mythos is small, at least for the popular ones; Catwoman(anti-hero, details, etc. I know), Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Talia are pretty much the A-List villainesses.

  • Selina was confirmed, Catwoman all but confirmed(just not to fans who are too literal about Catwoman not being announced, only Selina) I'm pretty sure, if not 100% positive she's the love interest role, not the villainess.
  • Considering there will be no Joker, I think it's safe to assume there's no Harley.:-)csad:)
  • While not discounting Poison Ivy, I find it highly unlikely she'd be used by Nolan, but who knows, but even the rumor mill won't mention Ivy.
  • Talia was and still is a possibility, but even if she were used, she wouldn't be used to her best abilities as a character or she'd be too similar to Selina for the general audience I'd think.(Bruce's love turns out to be a villainess for a love they can never truly have)
  • I'll add in Lady Shiva, just to be generous to her fans. She wouldn't fit, at least not as easily as Talia would and her motives would most likely feel if not forced, unnecessary.
So that brings us to the lesser known villainess, Sofia Falcone.
Nolan has showed he does have an interest in the mobs of Gotham; We've had Carmine Falcone, Maroni, etc. and after the end of TDK, with Maroni dead, Carmine still in Arkham, a good amount of the other mob lords killed or out of commission because of Joker, I think the Falcone offsprings would be a great way to finish the mob off for Gotham.

With the highly speculative possible casting of Joseph Gordon-Levitt for an undisclosed role, and now the rumor or Cotillard returning not too long after the European actress casting call, I'm not saying the Falcone children is all they could be(I do enjoy the notion of JGL as Black Mask), I think it's clearly an option that can be worked with.

Again this is all just fun(but realistic for me) speculation. Would love to hear other thoughts on the rumors.

Well, when Catwoman was announced I know I thought of the Falcone family.

From what I've read, TLH and When in Rome, the family has a very interesting story and is very well written. It fits in Nolan's universe; they're the most grounded in reality and the mob is an important element in Nolan's movies.

I would love to see them, especially Mario (JG Levitt) and Sofia (M Cotillard). Alberto has too much story.

And bring back Tom Wilkinson!

This is very interesting. Very good thinking. I'm leaning toward Talia being in this one since Bane is, but I would very much like to see Sofia instead. But yeah, this movie will need some kinda mobster in it.

But this also got me thinking about the ending fight. Batman/Bane and Catwoman/Talia.

Eh, I don't see why the ending fight can't be between Catwoman and Sofia.

You're all starting to think like me many months ago.......... excellent my children...... excellent.........

Many months ago, Selina/Catwoman wasn't cast or confirmed, now it's just a process of elimination.

Besides in one of the old Catwoman threads I did mention something of a mob lady before I heard of Sofia Falcone. :o

Keep in mind that the Deadline report that said their were two female leads also said that Natalie Portman was up for a role, which she later denied. I think the Dealine report was bull. I could be wrong, I guess.

She didn't deny it at all, people are reading into her words too much, she simply said "She doesn't know anything about that"
That's not a denial.

When was this official casting call for a European actress made?

I like where you're going with this though Majik; I believe that Joker really set Gotham up to be a total chaotic war between the mob and the Freaks, a contributing factor in DV that I enjoy and could see evolving.

My only problems with Sofia and possibly Alberto are that they both kind of have loose ends without their LH and DV stories, having that they only appeared in in those stories as one shot villains. [BLACKOUT](as you all know Holiday and Hangman)[/BLACKOUT]

Other than that however, I do like it and think Nolan could work as many characters in as possible for the story; it would be interesting to see a bit of When In Rome tied in, and have the idea of Falcone escaping from Arkham to Rome (a main landmark Nolan is going to be filming, I believe), and then back to Gotham. It's a longshot idea, but I feel that it would be the only way to really bring back Wilkinson to reclaim what's his after Maroni.

Honestly, I think I prefer the idea of Sofia Falcone, and I think there's a decent chance that it's her (better than almost all the other options)...but I think Talia is still more likely.

Remember, the VERY FIRST report we got about there being two female leads was one claiming that Marion had been offered her pick of either role, but had to turn them down for the moment due to "possible scheduling conflicts" (helloooo pregnancy!). And that same report claimed the two roles were Catwoman and Talia. Given everything that's happened since that report came out (more reports from Deadline and THR claiming two female leads, and then Marion announcing her pregnancy, which was clearly pretty far-along by the time she did so), I'm inclined to believe it was accurate. That report came out at the very end of August. Her baby's due "this spring." Which means she most likely would've found out in early August. It just...fits.

But I do like your line of thinking, Majik.

I think the odds of this character or a character based on this one are far better than they are for Talia. And given the source material Nolan has used for the past it wouldn't surprise me in the least if this the the direction they go. I still say that Catwoman's inclusion all but eliminates Talia from appearing in Rises.
