Speedball has been Joe Quesada's punching bag for months now at Newsarama's Joe Friday's (a weekly panel where Newsrama interviews Joey Q. Some reader questions are also part of the format) and he's been saying that Speedball is going to die. It's likely that the survivor is Speedball, at least that's the rumor going around.

If you take the solicitation at face value then the only person I can think of that would be "without family, without a friend in the world and without a reason to go on" is Microbe. His "family" was Night Thrasher nad his only friends where the reality show New Warriors. I don't see how it's possible for him to survive, but he fits the bill. I mean, Speedball's parents are still around and he has other friends outside the reality show New Warriors. Still, I think that Speedball was the survivor just so Joey Q can crap on him for a little while more.:(
I agree with you, though I hope Speedball is dead ( he's so annoying!) I would rather see Microbe be alive.

correct me if i'm wrong but doesnt one analyst blame Speedball for the Stamford incident in Civil War and acctually begin his sentence with: "I know its not proper to speak ill of the dead but...
You beat me to it.

Speedball is in fact dead as ****.

He cannot be dead

Robbie Baldwin's exposure to energy from a dimension of kinetic energy gave him the superhuman ability to create a kinetic field of unknown energy around himself which absorbs all kinetic energy directed against him (what he orginally called the "Speedball Effect.") This absorption can vary from resisting the effects of physical objects such as bricks and rocks to resisting that of energy and fire and even explosions. Within his kinetic field it is nearly impossible for him to be hurt, and he instead bounces harmlessly from object to object, with no loss or transference of momentum.

My guess would be from the magnatude of that explosion, He's still bouncing around from object to object.

Damn, Namorita bought the farm. :(

Oh, I figured Quesada and Millar would have been ironic and left him alive, especially considering his powers (which I was right on). But I think the MU will continue spinning without Robbie Baldwin.

This is probably what brings Namor into the equation. And THAT is going to be cool as hell. Namor doesn't mess around and I have a feeling that if, oh say... Iron Man messes with Cap and Namor is around? HA! We've already seen what could happen in the NA: Iluminati special.

I hope Namor has a LOT to do with Civil War. Since Hulk can't be there, I'm relying on him and maybe Thor if and when he returns.

I don't know where you got that quote from, but it's wrong. Although Speedball's bubbles (kinetic field) protect him somewhat from energy attacks it's been stated that these kind of attacks are one of his weaknesses. I agree that the force of the impact and flying debris would have no chance of killing him, there's still the matter of all the fire and heat the explosion produced. BTW, I'm a Speedball fan but I'm just playing devil's advocate.

Speedball is definitely the one who survives. He gets blamed for the whole Stamford incident. It was right on the last page of ASM #531:

I like this, its like Peter's thinking, Do i give a ****?

I've been under the impression that they think all the New Warriors are dead, but are blaming Speedball because he had the Warriors rush in knowing they were in over their heads, and his words were caught on tape. I'm thinking that they'll find Speedball soon, hiding, ashamed or afraid because of what happened.

I think SHIELD has him under some sort of protective custody.

Was their show beamed directly from the cameras out to the public's TVs, totally raw and live? Because otherwise, I'm thinking the camera crew were among the 600 people who got killed in Nitro's blast and no one will ever know what was said before the incident.

They were feeding directly to the studio.

I'm pretty sure the implication is that he was the only survivor and the people have attached the blame to him because of it. Besides, how would people know that he suggested they take the villains down? Presumably, if it was filmed for their reality show, all the reality show crew members were nearby and killed in the explosion as well.

Not to get into a discussion but the source of the blame seemed to be the video feed of the New Warriors show. Cap kept refering to it when they were blaming Speedball. I still think he survived, I just thought i'd say that.

I found this on Marvel.com (same place I got his power information from)

Nitro used his power and caused a massive explosion killing the New Warriors and almost everyone around that area for an unknown distance. Speedball was killed during this explosion and was later ridiculed by TV talkshow hosts.

I dont buy it. Then which New Warrior survived?

What about this guy? He is dead. No love for the Night Thrasher, head or the Taylor Foundation:( :down

The solicitations say there'll be one survivor.

Ok, if they were feeding directly to the studio and not actually taping stuff, that makes sense. The death of the cameramen and crew wouldn't make a difference.

The first page is of the tv producer watching it on the big screen.

See this kinda bugs me
I like Night Thrasher almost as much as I dislike Speedball and I find it hard to believe that Night Thrasher would be so stupid as to allow the New Warriors into such a potentially bad situation
Speedball I believe, he's capable of all kinds of stupidity, but Night Thrasher, come on

I was going to quote Wikapedia as a source, but it's flawed (darn fans). Nitro's entry says he killed Microbe, Night Thrasher, and Namorita... while the New Warriors entry says that Speedball's the only one confirmed dead. Oh well.
