When I use to work in a freezer and wore gloves the tips were the first part to wear down and get holes in them.

Wouldn't it make more sense to assume it's there to draw more attention to his crotch? Why do think he has silver shoes? Same reason probably. It's not like Raimi's Spider-man suit needed a black crotch. As a matter of fact I've never seen a black crotch on any superhero costume.
