Ugh. I still absolutely hate the new costume. I'm sorry. I just can't bring myself to like it.

I'm trying to get into this movie ... Really hard.

I don't understand how people can hate the costume. I can understand not liking certain aspects, but it's red, blue, and has a webbing design. It's a Spider-Man costume. People are making way too big a deal out of the change. You're entitled to your opinion, I just don't get the disdain some people have for the suit. I think it looks great.

yes its a Spider-man costume...but its not THE Spider-man costume.

having black rather than silver web imho isa massive improvement. if webb wanted to make perfect, he would have taken sam's suit and given it black webs.

spider-man suit perfect;
webb's eyes
webb's material
raimi's design

= perfection

and I think this is what bothers people...its not that they didnt know what the suit might look like...its not like with Cap where you dont know how the GA will react to a comic faithful costume.
All they had to do is tweak the comic design.
With every artist who draws Spidey differently than the other yet maintains the design....Macfarlane's Spidey is different from Romita's and is different from Larsen's.
Take the design and make it your own.

but they didnt...they made the suit different. To me this suit says "different for the sake of being different"

I would have perferred if they had a more tradition design, but if you can't make it faithful make it 'cool' and I DO think the suit looks cool. superman returns' suit is changed from the morden day superman suit AND doesn't look cool.

But I would say that's exactly what Webb has done... It's still clearly and instantly recognisable as Spidey, but also feels like a unique interpretation of it, like a cross between the Ultimate Spidey and Alex Ross Spidey.

well i mean change things like the webbing, eyes and spiders....im not denying that its a cool looking suit and does look like spider-man....but to me I see it and seems like a missed opportunity

Lol Roach, I think there's always a missed opportunity here and there in any Superhero film... There were plenty in First Class, but it managed to come together as a whole and work as a film. For this Spidey film, I guess it really depends how all the pieces come together.

Dont even get me started on the Magneto costume:cmad:

There was a Magneto costume? All I remember was a cool X-Uniform, some awesome turtleneck/leather jacket combos and then that purple potato sack he wore at the end.... Was that supposed to be a costume? :P

exactly...it was awesome from the back... and then we got a front shot and it was like Magneto with a Harry Potter scarf around his neck

It's funny, you say it's "a Spider-Man costume but not THE Spider-Man costume" and yet you acknowledge that Spider-Man's costume has changed and varied over the years in the quoted post. Mcfarlene's Spidey is different from Romita's which is different from Larsen's and is now different from Webb's. It's not different for the sake of being different, it's modern and updated to fit the style of the movie. Raimi's costume fit because the tone of his movies was a very bright and happy tone. As was the costume, it was traditional and bright. From the sounds of it this movie is not going to be the same. They're going for a modern, realistic and gritty tone and this costume fits that mold PERFECTLY. You've acknowledged that it's a Spider-Man costume, and this is a Spider-Man movie. Works for me. It's not like they went and made him orange and red or something.

My feelings on the suit are... well, I'm just not really sure. On one hand I prefer the overall design to Raimi's suit, but on the other from all the pictures I've seen... there's something so "fake" about it for some reason. It looks awkward to me, and I think Raimi's suit lent itself more to the cinematic.

Two cents from someone not really keeping up with this film...

No, Raimi's suit was the way it was because it was the comic book suit overall which is a good thing. Not because of a "happy" tone. It was the comic book suit come to life and it looked damn awesome.

They wanted to change the suit for this film because...hell even I don't know why they did it. The new suit could have stayed more true to the comics, but whatever. I like the new suit, just not as much as the other one. If it fits the movie, then that's good. If it doesn't, well then that's sad.

Yes Mcfarlane's Spidey is different from Romita's...but it is still the same design ...its just the webbing is drawn differently and the eyes are different sizes

and if they are going with a realistic and gritty tone on Spider-man then I am not sufficiently worried about this movie as I should be.

Here is Spidey's first costume

:D It was better in SM1.
What on earth...

They've already stated that that is what they're going for. A film more grounded in reality than Raimi's. Why be worried? Ultimate Spider-Man was a lot gritter than previous interpretations of the character and yet that's my favorite comic book series ever.

And SpiderManHero12, I understand that Raimi's suit is the comic book's brought to life. You're missing my point. Raimi's films really, although shot in modern day, stayed true to the values the character had in the 60s. This movie is supposed to be modern. I stand by my opinion that Raimi's suit would not have fit the tone of this movie at all nor would it have fit Garfield at all.

I always thought that too much red was bad for the 3D effect, hence their decision to have more blue areas on the costume.

So you perfer USM over any other decade such as the 60's, 70's, or 80's? I'm surprised. I never found USM to be that amazing at all. There were some really cool stuff in the beginning, but the Villains were bad (most of them) and it was a little too edgy for it's own good. With that being said, I don't hate Ultimate by any means. There were some things I liked, just more things I didn't.

Well, I for one think a suit closer to the comics would have fit this movie. I know you're a fan of USM, but this "gritty" thing doesn't mean they couldn't bring a more faithful suit in. There's no reason why a design closer to the comics couldn't have been used.

I wouldnt call it gritty....and still the Ultimate series still kept the basic 616 design

A design closer to the comic meaning a finished belt, and no silver shoes? I'm all for no silver shoes, but to be that focused on two relatively small things is kind of silly. It's an awesome suit IMO, and I get that you like the classic look more, my posts are more directed towards those that say they "hate" the suit. There's no real reason to hate it. Disliking a few things I can understand. Even I dislike the silver shoes, but to hate the entire thing is taking it a bit overboard.

red stripes going down the legs, not enough webbing, motorcycle gloves, which look odd. I like the suit, but that's about it. I don't really think it's amazing, but it's not bad either. It needs to be used so that people don't pay attention to the parts that look odd or it won't work. If it ifts in the movie, then that's good. We'll see in the trailer.

Its someones opinion...it cant be debated. It would be like me trying to debate why you think its an awesome suit. Opinions are neither right or wrong. You may not agree with why I dislike the suit but then thats just your opinion on my opinion
