The Amazing Spider-Man Spider-Man Reboot Costume Part 4 - "What's that in his eye??" edition

The back spider, I agree about. It does seem a tad bit small. Even a thicker version of the front spider would have sufficed.

On everything else, what has been repeated many times is that they departed from the classic suit design because it was already used in Raimi's Spider-Man.

There was a really great 3D piece of work here (I think it was in the reboot fan art thread, back in January) that basically showed that with subtle tweaks, a suit based completely on the classic design still looks a LOT like Raimi's suit.

All the key elements are still there though, thankfully. lol

The problem is made even worse by the fact that there's clearly a chunk of the red area removed to fit the spider in (thanks to the long legs), so when it disappears, it's (apparent) absence is all the more obvious.

Would keeping a logical web pattern have really made it look too much like Acheson's Spider-Man design? Would not looking like Spider-Man's wearing running shoes have really made it look too much like the Raimi films? Would keeping the fingers red have made it look too much like its predecessors?

I'll say that kind-of-like what they did with the spider-symbol on the chest by blending it into the outlines of the red area of the torso.

Technically, they are present, but it still doesn't look good to me.

Yeah, I don't like that either. I hate how the back spider also has those webline segments (that the front spider has so it meshes with the web pattern)...but it doesn't make sense for the back.

Honestly? It probably would have. I don't mind tbh, I'm glad we're getting a radically different version of the classic suit.

Looks good to me, but I respect your opinion. I didn't like the suit when we first saw it either, I thought it was a Photoshop job. :hehe:

Zilla, you're beating a dead horse. You're pulling up ****** spy photos. Look at the promo pictures of Garfield. The back spider is fine. And the fact that you're complaning about the back spider that gets maybe...6 seconds of screentime in a film just goes to show how desperate this argument is. The suit is fine in many respects, and all it does is cause stupid ****ing arguments every time you bring it up. Just drop it and move on.

Agreed.

Thus my point that it changes things that didn't really need to be changed.
Any reason you're glad that it's a radically different version of the classic suit?

Who knows, maybe the suit will grow on me in time. For now, I'm not really a fan of it.

My argument is no more desparate than me simply stating my own opinion. I get the need to be different from the Acheson design, but it also needs to look like Spider-Man in general.

Just. I didn't want to see a slightly tweaked version of the Raimi suit. Because for your guidelines, there isn't a lot of leeway.

- Different eyes

- Different symbol

Lol, but it does look like Spider-Man in general.

There's plenty of other ways to differentiate it from the Acheson suits, like different textures, colors, et cetera.

It actually looks good in this picture from approximately around the elbows up, because it stays relatively close to what worked in the classic suit.

I know it's a spy picture, but a lot of the official pictures that I've found have significant portions of the costume obscured by shadows.

Dude, not liking the suit is one thing, but saying that this suit "doesn't look like Spider-Man" is borderline ******ed.

lolwat Yes you did.

No, I didn't. I was stating that in addition to looking different from the Acheson suits of the Raimi trilogy, the suit must also look like Spider-Man. Looking like Spider-Man is important, just as being different from the previous suits is, and should not be forgotten. I said it because many of the suit's proponents often say, "it has to be different from the Acheson suits." with seemingly no regard for whether or not it looks Spider-Man.

Which implies that you think this suit doesn't look like Spider-Man. I'm missing the disconnect here.

I'm not implying anything. Does the suit look Spider-Man? I guess so, in the same way that the various rejected concept art designs from Spider-Man did.

I'd say this looks like Spider-Man an awful lot more than those designs did.

I'd say they all look like Spider-Man. Jesus Christ, it's red, blue, has webbing on it, and has a spider on the front and back. Purists annoy the **** out of me sometimes.

It depends on which one you're talking about.
This one beats it hands down:

No stupid black lines on the blue areas, consistent web pattern, red gloves, et cetera.

That looks exactly like Raimi's suit dude. The only difference is a slight design change in the spider and non-raised webbing. The eyes are a little different as well but if that was presented as the new suit for the reboot the "OMG THEY'RE REMAKING AND COPYING SPIDER-MAN 1 LOL THIS SUCKS" comments would be even more prevalent than they are now which is saying something.

I just said that it looks more like Spider-Man than the reboot suit. That was it.

I never noticed the stripes on his legs in the concept art for Raimi's Spider-Man.
