They all but admitted Star Trek Beyond sucked.

Yeah I think Beyond is ****ed. The studio tossed it together at the last second to capitalize on the 50th anniversary and now they are hiding it? It's ****ed.

+1. No Alice Eve. Liked her in the last movie. Love the first 2 movies, but the first trailer for this was not good. If the rumor is true the Enterprise goes down on the opening act, this movie is in big trouble.

I wouldn't mind if the majority of the movie is spent on a alien planet. That's how a lot of the original series episodes went with them on a alien planet or stuck in the past.

I am not sure it is, but there is a good chance imo. I know people want this to work, heck I do. But there are already so many signs here, and we haven't exactly had a Fury Road level trailer to put those fears away. It feels so generic in its presentation, especially when you consider what JJ did. This in no way feels like an event.

Whether this works out or not, the film is clearly cobbled together, and there is no great director around to "make it work" Vaughn First Class style.

I definitely want it to work but how many times does hidden from the public blockbuster work? There are very few times that those films turn out to be really good.

But Simon Pegg wrotte it. we like Simon Pegg. he is a fan so this means the movie will be good.

That's not Kirk again, is it? I swear he gets the **** kicked out of him in every one of these movies.

Yep! Kirk again gets lifted off his feet by the throat at the hand of another alien. Also that is the Enterprise corridor on red alert so I don't think the ship gets destroyed in the first act. I just don't think they would be having Kirk and Krall engaged against each other so soon without any established back story.

I'm still super looking forward to this. I think they'll start pumping out promotions once Civil War is out of the way. It's a crowded blockbuster year this year.

This year just seems extra full compared to usual. I mean we have 7 comic book movies during this year, Star Trek, Star Wars, Tarzan, Warcraft, Finding Dory, Independence Day, Jungle Book, Fantastic Beasts etc etc. Not all summer blockbusters but it's jam packed.

I think the last 5 years have had the whole wall to wall blockbuster thing happening. It's the new normal.

Been a while since I was interested in so many BB movies in a year. BvS, Warcraft, STB, SS. And there's also usual Marvel stuff, that people will be rushing to watch.

I wonder... If the movie is bad, like really, REALLY bad, and it underperforms (which at this point seems likely to happen even if it's good due to the hack job Paramount has done with the marketing), will this be the end of Trek for a while? I know the old series had a number of duds and yet they kept making movies, but that was a different time and people were attached to that cast because they'd been watching them for decades. I know people like this cast but they've only been in two films (and only one of them was good, IMO) so I doubt there is as strong of an attachment. Additionally, now that Star Wars is back (and good again), it feels like Trek is playing second fiddle to it again. This of course wasn't helped by the fact that Abrams jumped ship to do SW.
