Star Trek Beyond - Part 1

Going by YT they released a full trailer for Into Darkness in December, six months before release. Not talking the Harrison teaser, I am talking a full trailer. The Harrison teaser was well before that.

But nah, lets keep acting like there is nothing oddly rushed and sloppy about this production. I mean, why show footage at CinemaCon? :o

Yeah. There was a LOT more promotion for STiD. This is a concern. I didn't even realize it was only 3 months away. I figured, by the lack of promotion, it wasn't coming out until the winter or something.

It's a blockbuster movie not an Indie/Oscar bait movie. No idea why Paramount are treating it like one with the marketing for this.

There was a 1 minute and a 2:30 trailer released in December 2012.

Which was unusual and hardly the norm. I had forgotten that happened.

In March 2013 there was another 1 minute trailer which was random and an international trailer.

In April we got the final full domestic trailer.

So STID had a teaser and full trailer in the same month and then didnt get another full domestic trailer until April.

On an unrelated note,

The Revolutionary Way Star Trek Beyond Will Screen in Theaters this Summer.

When we heard the name of the new Star Trek movie was Beyond, we assumed that was little more than a buzzword that made the title sound cool. It turns out, there was a little more to it than that. When Star Trek Beyond hits theaters this summer it won’t simply be showing off cool science fiction technology. It will also be using some pretty cool technology to screen the film. Beyond will use Barco’s Escape projection system to create a three-screen panoramic image of the final frontier.

Barco has been showing off its Escape technology, which projects images not only in front of you, but on two additional screens on the sides of the theater, for a couple of years now. Previously, the biggest theatrical releases to use the technology has been the Maze Runner movies. However, now the tech will be used for its largest production to date, Justin Lin’s Star Trek Beyond. Bad Robot is reportedly remastering the film so that certain segments of it take advantage of all three screens. As much as 20 minutes or more of the total film will take advantage of the additional space. Ben Rosenblatt, the head of visual effects for Bad Robot told The Hollywood Reporter how the additional space could be utilized for the film.

"When you're on the bridge of the Enterprise, you might see additional coverage of the bridge. Or you might see the Enterprise coming across the screen — and maybe you'll see more and the attacking forces. There are new ships and antagonists that are well suited to the expanded image."

We have had one terrible trailer, and now they are skipping events you would expect a legit blockbuster to appear at. We all know how this project started in the first place. We know the script was put together rather quickly and the director is Justin Lin (Who by my count, has one good flick, so I don't expect him to elevate the way JJ was able to with the first two films scripts). They randomly ditched Alice Eve, and are adding characters this late into the game.

I am not saying it is going to be bad, but at some point this stuff starts adding up.

Did not even realize Alice Eve wasn't in this.
Wonder why

I wouldn't call the first trailer terrible, but it was clearly trying to blatantly play up to the youth and Fast & Furious crowd.

Well, we don't know if they are making a fourth one yet. This isn't Star Wars.

Pine and Quinto are signed for a fourth. It's not guaranteed, but it's pretty likely unless Beyond is a complete box office and critical failure.

Raimi and Tobey were signed onto a fourth spiderman. Still rebooted.:o

Collider says the full trailer is being saved for a fan event next month in Los Angeles.

This marketing campaign does seem more muted compared to SITD. They need to knock it out of the park with the next trailer.

The theme parkification of movies continues.

The multi screen thing is hardly new. Theaters have played around with multiple screens or wrap around screens since the 60s. This reminds me of how o. The production side of things directors like Chris Nolan and Krasinski act like rear projection is a revolutionary new idea.

They've announced that there's going to be a Trek focused event sometime next month

Edit, what symbiotic said.
