Star Trek Beyond - Part 1

I don't care if this new film has a GotG vibe to it, I just want it to be less derivative than STID and less boring/soulless than most of the Next Generation stuff.

I will reserve judgment untilI see the official version, but, they don't appear to mention the 50th anniversary.
Thats disappointing.

Too much jokes in Star Trek??? I guess people forget how Star Trek had joke episodes...the two featuring Harry Mudd, Trouble with Tribbles, Piece of the Action. Hell Voyage Home is pretty much non stop fish out of water jokes the minute they come back to the 80's.
Not a lot of people have ever seen ST:TOS, most would have seen ST:TNG and the later series. AFAIK, it was mostly the original crew in both TV and film who encapsulated the comedy elements very well.

The crew meet Mudd's Women :lmao:

I just finished a marathon of TOS and started a marathon TNG (fist two seasons...yuck)....TOS always had light moments. I think that's the problem though...everyone has seen TNG and think that's what these movies should be like...not realizing that the series is the TOS characters and the TOS series was considered an action adventure series.

I agreed. I used to watch some episodes of TOS throughout the '70s and when TNG came out I enjoyed it, but grew to recognise that the show-runners were deviating a lot from the TOS's charm --swashbuckling adventure.

Hopefully, the third incarnation of the reboot ST will be more enjoyable. I enjoyed the first reboot but the second one, Into Darkness nearly had me nodding off to sleep in the theatre.

I didn't get a GOTG vibe from the trailer at all. "Sabotage" was played in the first movie, it's not really out of place here.

I know a lot of people will complain and are already doing so, but I love that trailer and its "let's party" vibe.

While I wish they would go more thought provoking...let's face it. That won't happen.

I DO think this will be a fun film...as the previous treks were fun. And I like the fact they are going out into the farther reaches of space...so that should be interesting.

What a disappointing tone for a Star Trek movie.

Hopefully it'll be like Iron Man 3 and Avengers AOU where the tone of the movie is a polar difference from what the trailer showed

The first season of TOS was pretty action packed, if they were trying to recapture that in this trailer, they may have succeeded.

The captain sets the tone of the series. There's this awesome documentary on Netflix called Chaos on the Bridge...about the first two seasons of TNG. In it they theorize that Roddenberry wrote Kirk and Picard as himself. Picard was older Roddenberry...no longer the womanizer...more thoughtful and less swashbuckler.

I don't get the GOTG comparisons. Is every action/sci fi trailer with pop songs now going to be accused of copying Guardians?

Anyway, I loved the trailer. I had completely forgotten this was coming out next year, now I can't wait. Looks like it will redeem the mess of Into Darkness.

I felt the use of Sabotage was a bit excessive; I don't know that they needed to play it throughout the WHOLE trailer. But I liked what I saw. Was that one weird looking alien guy Elba?

seeing trailer in english doesn't change my oporion.

It's not going light that is probally.it's how they go light that Is problem.

Intresting thing on credits it appears film mya have some elements from when Orci was going to direct since he and his co-writers from that script share writing credits.

I never thought the day would come when i would be totally meh on a Star Trek film.
i paid to see into darkness even though i wasn't wild on the trailers.I am not making the
mistake again.

Ok, looks much better and less "low budget" with that proper coloring, as expected. And yeah, I can see why some Trekkies might feel like this is a step in the "wrong" direction, but honestly, it looks like fun to me. But I also don't mind it looking more like GotG because I really enjoy those kinds of films. *shrug*

I think that I remember reading about it years ago, I'm not surprised that the series carried the traits of its creator at their respective age --psychedelic '60s and 'Morning in 'Murrica' '80s.

I think Pegg et al., were actually trying to take this film to similar tone as the first season of TOS.

finally an adventure ST movie. without dragonball Z destruction third acts. they get 2 tickets from me.

you just can feel that Simon Pegg was one of the writters. :D:up:

dont you all just love all those aliens?

To me, it looks better than the previous two. It looks like a typical/light Star Trek adventure, and not some overbloated mess.

I doubt we've seen much of the third act in this trailer...it is just the first one

I was apathetic about this movie before, but that trailer really sold me. Great production values, seems to have an interesting plot and great action. This just bumped up on my most anticipated films of 2016.

Cool trailer, I don't mind the tone of it or the usage of the song. Loved both 09 and Into Darkness. Looking forward to this one as well. :word:
