Star Trek Beyond - Part 1

The movies need to introduce new alien races, including “good”, “bad”, and neutral members.

There need to be new gadgets featured.

New vehicles- land, sea and air—should be featured. We’ve seen the limit(s) of how far starship travel can be taken (such as last film’s turbo-warp battle or whatever it was.)

There should be new, updated uniforms. It can’t just be slightly tweaked versions of the 1967 costumes anymore. They should be able to go well beyond that. We
already recognize new Kirk, Spock, McCoy, etc., at this point.

More strange monsters need to be featured, like the ice-planet creatures from the first film.

Where are the philosophical conflicts? Or is the new series simply about space
opera?

Why not have a Trek film that focuses on adventure, discovery and wonder with some action?

To be fair how do you know that doesn't happen in this movie? Star Trek was mostly an action adventure show, a western set in space.

It's a 1:30 trailer I wont make a judgement until I see a longer trailer.

Terrible music choice but it's only a teaser, I'll wait for the main trailer before making a judgement on whether I want to see the film. I love the first two so I'm hoping this is good.

Eh I loved the trailer. Dunno what everyone is getting worked up on. Just hope its not STID 2.0

I think it looks cool, big action, bike jumps, badass looking aliens, slick fight scenes, good times! :D

However until JJ's movies I never really cared much for Star Trek, so I can understand those that believed Justin Lin's talk of returning to the old style, cerebral Trek, being disappointed.

This felt more like a TV ad than a teaser playing in front of one of the biggest movies of the year/decade. I don't think any of the content looked bad, but it just wasn't an enticing tease.

Obviously the trailer is selling the action and spectacle aspects. You don't hire Justin 'Fast & Furious' Lin and not expect large action set pieces.

Just because the trailer show cases the action and banter it doesn't mean there isn't some depth in the movie. Everything Simon Pegg has ever written or co-written has larger themes and heartfelt character moments.

Lieutenant M'Ress should be brought into the films as well.

The trailer was just OK, IMO. I hope this movie is a pleasant surprise, especially since this is coming out on ST's 50th anniversary year.

Pros:

- Main female alien looked cool
- Spock ditching Bones
- Large scale eye candy

Cons:

- Beastie Boys didn't fit
- Some of the jokes fell flat
- Looked like a retread of previous Nu Trek films

The teaser was fine but it was lite. Like Ninja Turtles 2 lite. In fact that trailer was more fun.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I felt about it as well, and that seems to be the general reaction to it that i've seen. I really haven't seen a great amount of hate it other places, just more "eh, its okay" type of reaction to it.

I can see how people can say that the trailer was too light. It was. Though it's absolutely not indicative of what the film will be at all, I feel. It's way too short for that.

It's not a real compelling trailer, but I'm glad that it looks like we're getting a fun adventure story instead of a ponderous rehash of some past storyline that we've seen already. The next trailer should give us a better idea of the plot and if it sucks or not.

Beastie boy music is a staple in these new films. They have been in the other two movies. Kinda like Rage and Matrix.

Love Sabotage and it worked in the scene/trailer in the first film but this time it really didn't work for me.

I guess compared to the Tarzan and ID4 trailers, this feels like fluff.

But I'm not gonna judge it. I do get frustrated that the Enterprise is heavily damaged again. But I don't mind the whole stranded accept. It wasn't like Wrath of Khan didn't have that either.

I just can't believe Paramount thought this was a suitable first look for the film.
