Star Trek Beyond - Part 2

Not for everyone but I love the added dimension of being in it. As said for blockbusters it adds even more to that rollercoaster feeling of it. Dramas like that, no way. But action spectacle blockbusters on the other hand absolutely love it.

With that also, few others would spend money for it since it's more expensive and to see it that way you'd need to live in a major metropolitan area. I think the only places in the US with it today even available to people is LA and NYC.

It is fine if you ignore the obvious implications. I love Pegg, I defend him all the time. He should have never said that. Never.

Yeah. Hate that Pegg said that and no idea what he means by it. Sounds like he's saying being gay is a choice. Is that what he's saying? In one alternate universe something happened to Sulu to make him gay? Just doesn't make sense...

I'm going to give Pegg a hall pass on this. Anyone who hangs around Nick Frost 24/7 is going to say something regrettable at some point.

Yeah, I just read it... ****.

This was my argument last week but then he said this. :funny: Kinda adds fuel to Takei's arguments.

Scotty just teleported his foot into his mouth.

His attempts at clarification by using canon are not helping, at all. Godamnit Pegg.

This is just him doing a cinema verite bit for his next Cornetto film. Any minute now we'll see Charles Dance do a cameo as a snobby restaurant owner.

The Cornetto trilogy is over PR. He has no such excuse. :oldrazz:

This whole thing has just snowballed too goddamn much. I feel like after Takei gave his POV on the thing, they should've just gone "We love and respect George and he's more than entitled to his opinion in this matter, but to the rest of you: He's gay. Shut the f*** up and deal with it." I just feel like there's not enough creators talking down to fans these days, and if any group of individuals deserve to be talked down to, it's modern day fandom. :o

That is exactly what they should have done. We decided that Sulu is gay now. That is the end of it. Instead they tried to explain it and that hasn't worked out at all.

It's simple since they announced this. This is an alternate universe where this Sulu is gay. Which is fine.

The only person who really can have a dog in this fight is Takei, other than that, this is pretty meaningless to all of us.

It is meaningless so why do it against the wishes of Takei and the vision of the creator of Star Trek? It's another lazy, shove something down your throat addition to make themselves feel better. Instead of making a new, meaningful, gay character that has a unique history...they make this Sulu sexually closeted, until now, with implications that you aren't born gay in the 23rd century. They didn't think this one through very well.

My understanding is that this is an alternate timeline not a dimension. Alternate timeline technically wouldn't affect a person's DNA traits.

Nero's intrusion altered the quantum gay singularity of the Alpha Quadrant. On the positive side, it also turned Owen Paris gay, which means Voyager never happens.

It's actually a big reason why this whole Sulu thing doesn't make sense. It's suggesting what was created was an alternate dimension when I'm pretty certain it was clearly stated to be an alternate timeline. The argument can be made that the ripple effect was enough to change the situation around when Sulu was born, but that seems a stretch. It seems more plausible the film maker's simple forgot they created an alternate timeline not an alternate universe.

The difference between an alternate timeline and alternate dimension is really splitting hairs.

I actually don't think that's true. Alternate universe is generally one where the very fundamentals of all the characters are different regardless of the circumstances . Alternate timeline the circumstances change but the people are generally the same.

Yeah the entire idea was from the moment Nero arrived, he changed everything going forward. It was a jumping off point. This is completely different from a parallel reality.

I thought Nero went through a wormhole to an alternate reality.

Scientifically we know that different hormonal combinations to a foetus can affect sexuality. No idea how the hell the butterfly effect of Nero's time travel might have affected Sulu's mother's pregnancy though.

Whilst that's true it does seem like a significant longshot.

Nero implodes a planet.
The husband of a pregnant woman whom died on said planet is driven insane.
Insane husband travels the galaxy, zapping pregnant women with a ray that reshuffles their hormonal patterns.
Sulu is born with the slightest biological difference.

My God... I think I've discovered the plot of Star Trek 4...

This conversation... Prime example of nerds (I include Simon in that) over thinking things in flights of fancy entertainment to an obtuse and silly degree.

30 bucks a ticket. Moving seats. Air rushes at you. You're sprayed with water. Your seat kicks you and punches you matched to the action. And bullets shoot past you. Unsure how 2D films are in it, don't think I'd ever see a 2D film in it. Only 3D. Turns it into a simulator ride.

That sounds like a cop out. If I'm already getting kicked and punched then I want to feel like I'm getting shot as well.
