Star Trek Beyond - Part 2

I'm loving the reactions to this movie! People seem really pleased. :)

I like the reactions that say the film reflects the spirit of the TV show but with the engaging nature of a Hollywood movie. That's really the most elusive part about Star Trek films and why they are so hard to make well.

I'm really hyped for this film. It seems like it was being really rushed at first, but ever since that first big interview with Lin came out, I've been feeling pretty confident about his abilities to not just make "Fast and Furious in space." Pegg and co. also seems to have a good job writing a very good script as well.

I'm not a hardcore trekkie so it's not like I'll be hard to please or know better for Trek films, but it's cool to see the film received warmly.

the question is do those saying it even know star trek.many trekkers are
critical of preabrams films.many are ctitical of the motion picture and final frontier.some trek fans will even admit out of the next generation films
only first Contact is good.both the abrams directed films don't feel like
star trek.Trek 2009 Is made well enough that you can at times forget abrams was making a star wars style film with star trek name and characters.

i like the darkness of DS9.Into darkness i don't know what they were doing when they weren't ripping off Wrath of Khan.

Hard to tell from trailers what this film will be but at least it seems Justin Lin Isn't ripping anyone else off.still you would think for 50th annivsary they
would do something in film as homage to past.even skyfall did that.

Really happy with the good reactions, this movie was a bit of an underdog for this summer, but in what has been a very average summer I was hoping this would be a nice surprise and it seems it is, can't wait to see it even more now.

Glad to see the reactions seem to confirming what I was seeing in that original teaser -- a blockbuster TOS-throwback. (Still sort of surprised at the negative reaction to that first teaser).

I've been excited for this since it was announced. First trailer was meh, second trailer was great and really seemed to showcase what this film is and what it's all about. I've said it before in here but I really enjoy both ST09 and STID so I can't wait for this one now

Its kinda ironic that STB and GB both had two of the most panned teasers and trailers this year ,and both getting positive reviews so far.

Well GB is a whole nother level..

But I always thought the Star Trek complaints were so silly

"There's a bike jump! Tis is gonna be just like Fast and Furious not Star Trek"
"THey used pop music in the trailer. Theyre ripping off Guardians of the Galaxy"

So stupid

Well, to be fair, those who weren't a fan of JJ's movies, bringing Lin on wasn't an improvement. And the bike jump just confirmed many fears that they had in their head.

Sounds like the review embargo is dropping today. So, Paramount is getting confident. Can't wait to see the reviews.

In fairness, Pegg at one point outright said that Paramount thought the original script they had for this was "a little too Star Trek-y" and that they wanted it this to be more like GotG.

I'm actually getting Skyfall vibes from this film (minus Skyfall's all-around excellent trailers). 50th anniversary film which screws up the signature costume (the new uniforms suck like Craig's skinny suits), which skips forward a bit too much (Skyfall to a burnt out old Bond, STB to the destruction of the Enterprise), but apparently a really good script and well-made movie that is critically acclaimed. I know, those are superficial similarities, but I'm kinda feeling them.

well apocalypse I don't plan on ever listening to critics.I already disagreed with them on Into Darkness.

I am waiting for spoiler reviews and what other star trek fans say on beyond as my judge if i should see it.

Unlike Abrams Lin Says he was fan of original series so maybe trailers don't do film justice and he is doing film that unlike abrams film is truer to spirit of original show.while the idea of enter destroyed and crew without ship for much of film isn't exciting one maybe they are paying tribute to Trek III/Iv/Generations.

Lin is knows for the fast and furious films.I haven't seen any of them so i have no idea what kind of director he is.same as going into BVS i knew nothing on gal gadot.and she turned out pretty good for wonder woman so maybe Lin can deliever a good star trek film.

The teaser with motorcycle just reenforced fears of a lot of trekers that now paramount was going to try to turn trek into fast & furious.

Simon Pegg didn't help matters any when he said original script was rejected for being too star Trekey, and they wanted something like GOTG.which made it sound like once again they were trying to be like star wars and not star Trek.

But it was 1 brief shot in the trailer and on a poster. It was an over reaction. But that's how we fanboys do

Indeed. Fanboy overreaction is so heightened now with everyone getting to shout their sometimes ill-informed or completely invalid opinion out as much as they can.

One brief scene or a poorly constructed trailer and it has fanboys howling at the moon over how terrible something is before they even get a chance to see it.

From now on, every film studio should insert one random out-of-context image in every major movie trailer, something that isn't even going to be in the movie itself, just to focus the Internet rage. Like Batman dancing the twist or Spider-Man kicking a horse.
