Star Trek Beyond - Part 2

Yes, but as I recall there's no opening logo at the beginning, only at the end.

Some modern blockbusters have been doing that for the past decade. But it opens much the same way as the last two with the studio logos set to the opening part of Giacchino's theme fade to black and all that.

Any chance anyone know the difference between the panoramic 3-screen theater going experience and the 70mm theater experience? Other than three screens being used for the image to project onto.

Just asking because it sounds basically the same:

The 3 screen thing is one screen in front of you and then one on each of the side walls. Which sounds ridiculous.

The 70 mm is like the whole thing with the Hateful 8 last winter, or IMAX film but without some of the height to the frame. 70mm can provide a wider aspect ratio image or otherwise just the same image at a larger resolution. Even when projected onto the same size screen, 70mm can be the theater equivalent of watching a widescreen bluray instead of a pan and scan DVD.

Three-screen format is not really a format I'd be interested in looking at the picture.

Thanks and unsure how I feel about three screens then...

Watched 'Star Trek: The Motion Picture' for the first time and loved it. Very surreal and trippy. Reminiscent of 2001 Space Odyssey in art design. It also made me think about the Council of Nine and how close this could be to potential reality, a very interesting thought to ponder. I'm unsure how substantiated that information is, but it sounds plausible and here - as said, the visuals of space and ideas and everything are interesting to think about.

Yea, TMP is fantastic, true science fiction film, a philosophical journey with even hints of mysticism, I love this movie. It's so substance over style.

(Ok, there are those somewhat longer shots of Enterprise in the docks

, but hey... it's so emotional with that incredible Goldsmith's music, one of the best themes ever.

Good to know Giacchinos theme is still used, love that theme and was worried we would lose it with a change of director.

Trailer for the “Barco Escape” (3 screen) version:

I haven't read the reviews, but when they say it's like a big budget version of an episode of TOS, they mean this in a good way right? Not something like Insurrection? Because one of the reasons that was terrible is because it felt like an episode of the show.

Three screen version is basically watching it in 360?

I think so.... Saw the trailer and that's what confused me because that makes it come off as 70mm to me, just projected onto three screens - one long screen. If the screens box you in, that would be a huge difference between the two.

I have decided that as well.
It doesn't sound like it enhances the experience.
An optical illusion, nothing more.

Insurrection was bad because it was like a bad episode of the show.

If the Best of Both Worlds was a film instead of just a two parter I don't think anyone would complain.

Cinerama looked better..

Cinerama’s three separate filmstrips were projected onto one curved screen. And ideally, the “seams” between the images would be invisible (or at least innocuous). With Barco, there’s no attempt (so it appears) to hide the seams or the sharp corners that separate the three screens. ;nd

I would say people are meaning that in a good way that might give the film more appeal to older school fans.

And plus, it sounds like a better execution compared to another "big budget Star Trek episode" aka Star Trek Insurrection.

People might get mad for me saying this, but parts of it were also like and reminded me of the 2013 video game.

Now that was a broken game upon release, no question. But I do believe it was a well written story with some good stuff in it and some interesting ideas. And it did have that large concept episode of TOS to it.

Everyone please be forewarned. A new Star Trek Beyond TV spot got released today and it has a MAJOR PLOT SPOILER IN IT! Do not watch the FINAL COUNTDOWN TV spot unless you want a major element of the plot spoiled for you. And I mean major plot spoiler.

Like I'm genuinely surprised and disappointed Paramount spoiled this.
