If Cumberbatch is in this, I'll have no choice but to see it. He is skyrocketing up my list of favorite actors.

Any word on who he's playing?

Not a whisper, after all, we are talking about a JJ Abrams film...

IMDB has Cumberbatch listed as Khan.

Personally, I'd take that information with a warehouse sized pinch of salt...

Star Trek language is like Chinese to me, but whoever he's playing, sure it will be awesome.

Someone updated IMDB, no more Khan (thank God!) in fact there is nothing at all by his name...

He is almost certainly going to be a villain of some sort though. As long as he is not a moustache twirling mwahhhh!!! character I will be relieved.
Peter Weller has some from of nefarious role I have also heard.

Just watched the first movit tonight for the first time in a while, it is a superb film and if they can top it this will be an amazing sequel. I cant wait.

With this new Star Trek franchise, it's now big enough to rival Star Wars in blockbuster terms. It took 11 films before it finally happened.

Even fewer, if you close your eyes and pretend #5 and #10 never happened. I certainly do. :(

^I dunno about it being as big as Star Wars, the first movie in this franchise was a success but not in Star Wars terms, which isnt a bad thing as not many movies are.

Hopefully thy'll tone down the lens flares as well as using less shakey cam.
3-d just doesnt lend itself to shakey cam.

^I thought the shakey cam worked in the space scene's, when we are outside the ships, but inside when two humanoids are fighting or whatever they need to lose it IMO. Keep it for the space scene's though as it seemed to add a sense of realism to them.

I enjoyed the Star Trek reboot movie when I first saw it. But it does not stand up to repeated viewings, I am sorry to say.

Hopefully the next one will do better. And I say this as a big Star Trek fan from wayyyyyyyy back.

Um..... :cwink: Not. Star Wars is much younger than Star Trek and always has been more successful.

As time goes one 11 years matters less and less.

Also as far as film franchises go, they've existed for an almost equal amount of time.

I think he means rival in popularity. There's always been a thought that only nerds and geeks can enjoy Star Trek. Where as everyone enjoyed Star Wars. But the latest film finally changed that perception.

Given how bad past Star Trek movies were (especially the last Next Generation ones), this did quite well. It will take a while for the reputation to improve. The first movie was a good start.

Have to say I disagree, I think its stands up very well to repeat viewings, I watched it again recently and really enjoyed and I've seen it about 10 times.

Same here. I've seen it 5 times so far.I felt bad for Old Spock. He's stuck in a new timeline wiyj no way back and the Vulcans nearly got wiped. The Vulcans are screwed considering their mating habit.

I also agree. I've seen the movie at least 10 times and its been very enjoyable every time which I think is partly due to the excellent soundtrack.

Not that I think this is the 2nd best ST movie, but of all the Trek movies, I think this has the 2nd best repeat viewing after ST II as well.

I also agree about the repeated viewings. I've seen it so many times now it's almost unhealthy. :oldrazz:

And I've been a fan since the 80s and they used to repeat episodes of the orginal series at midnight.
