Star Trek Sequel - Part 1

They're moving at the speed of plot. Though I can understand why they did that. After all, if it took them four days to respond, it would hurt the pacing.

We're supposed to believe that an interstellar federation only has six ships defending its capital? In a universe full of warmongering aliens? Well hey, at least they had a couple, Vulcan had none.

They had this same problem in Generations. Where a new (undermanned, unarmed) Enterprise was sent to respond to a distress call because they were the only ship in range. Even though they were still sitting in the Solar System, minutes away from the Federation's capital.

Wasn't that the same with Star Trek V: The Final Frontier? It's a common nit.

In Enterprise (the show) the Vulcans are shown to be the most powerful military force in the contemporary universe. They also waged war with many interstellar civilizations, making it rather strange they have no planetary defenses. Oddly enough, they even make a reference to the show in the movie.

What was the reference? I don't remember.

Even if Vulcan HAD planetary defenses...they would have been useless against the Romulans future-based tech.

They mention that Scotty was reassigned to the strange Vulcan ice moon / planet because he did something to Admiral Archer's beagle.

That's debatable, since the Vulcans were advanced for their day. After all, there's a reason the Romulans asked them for help to begin with. That's probably why they weren't shown to have any, since that would have been a problem.

Not even a debate. On top of new shield tech and armor, 100+ year old Vulcan tech wouldn't stand a chance. Not only that...but from things we've seen in various Star Trek episodes the Romulans tend to be a step up in tech as they are also more warlike. Enterprise showed that.

Oh yeah, Star Trek V with their trip to the centre of the Galaxy. Lets see, that's about 25,000 light years away and at Warp 12 it would take about 14.5 years.... Sigh.
Don't even get me started on how many decks the Enterprise had in that same film... Sighs again

A fleet of Vulcan warships vs a Romulan mining ship? Being from the future only gets you so much. Even if you're right, I would have still liked to see it. Though I'm more bothered by the lack of any planetary defenses than Romulan superiority.

Also, if they are a step up... then why go to the Vulcans to save your planet?

Because the Romulans are mostly focused on Military applications rather than scientific. Think North Korea and you have a better idea of what the Romulans are supposed to be like. :)

Star Trek Sequel Cast & Crew Photo
Screenwriter Roberto Orci tweets a snap shot from the bridge of the USS Enterprise on the set of the now-filming Star Trek sequel.

As much as I love it......... I cant see Saldana's legs.

So now I must consider it a failure. On principle. :o

Cause in the future, the bridges of warships will look like Apple Stores.

Forty years later and they still don't have seat belts.

2008 called. It wants that joke back.

I got the urge to pop in the Blu-ray of the 1st film.

Inertial dampeners > seat belts

Besides that bridge is too slick for seat belts. And I like to see crew members fly willy nilly across the bridge in battles. lol

I have to admit, I did miss the exploding consoles.

Those pics Orci posted are from the first movie. No joke.

He will be posting pics from the current production at some point, I'm sure.
