''a lot of people complained that the IMAX shot sequences didn’t look as good due to the Transformers and computer generated elements which were not rendered at a resolution which looked as vivid and crisp against the 65mm IMAX film''

the transformers were rendered at imax resolution. all textures were painted for the imax resolution. all effects in TDK were imax resolution.

Is it just me or does this look like it is set in the real ending of the movie? The bad guy beaten and all... quite bitter-sweat if that would be the case with the first set pics haha

I can't think of any spy pics from the first movie that ended up giving much of the story away. Hopefully that's the case this time.

Yay! So glad to see Uhura in action! That was my one complaint in the last movie. Uhura did nothing except fawn over the male leads and make sure they were alright. I can't wait to see her in action.

That said, If I could summarise all the complaints with the first movie in one sentence it would be "X didn't get enough screen time" so I suppose everyone wants their favourite character to have more to do which is a problem in ensemble films.

First thing I thought was Cardassian architecture too. It would be cool to see them. Though I think our favorites were not born or very young. Because everyone knows Garak=Pure awesome.

Can't remember when did the occupation begin on Bajor?
According to memory alpha the occupation was 2319 to 2369. The first film as set in 2258, so the sequel is probably too early unless Abrams decides to push the occupation earlier.

If you look closely you can see that Cumberbatch is wearing the same black star fleet shirt that Kirk wears in the 09 film. So the villain is a part of Starfleet then? Interesting.

Not true .
For starters up till now, nothing can be rendered at IMAX resolution which is 18k.
For TDK they had to render images at 8 K which was basically the max resolution.
Ditto for TF ROTF.

Yeah, it looks like the black undershirt. Also, in the pic with the stand ins behind them, it looks like Cumberbatch and his stand in have something else on the shirt...it looks like it could be some other insignia but I suppose it could be just about anything.

ok maybe i made a mistake when reading. the shots with OP. was the resolution of the live action footage the same like optimus prime? for example did they compose the 8k OP render on a 18k footage. of did they use a 8k footage with 8k OP?

i thought that he meant in the article that they rendered the robots in smaller resolution when they composed on the footage.

Sweet. The need to call it Star Trek II: The Wrath of Gary.

That sounds so epic. :D

No one reads the comics enough to mind if the story is done in a movie.

I'm betting on Cumberbatch playing a new characer myself.

The thing to remember is that at one point they were going to cast Benecio del Toro, and were looking at other Hispanic actors after he dropped out, as whoever the villain. And I can't think of any human TOS villain that could plausibly be played by either a Hispanic or white actor.

I don't think he's Khan. If only for the fact that it doesn't look like they made any attempt at trying to pass Cumberbatch off as Indian.

A thought I had recently is didn't Peter Weller play some sort of human seperatist on 'Enterprise'? What if he's reprising the role in this and Cumberbatch playing a follower to that movement who's been gentetically modified? Which could be why he's appearantly able to withstand a Vulcan nervepinch, and maybe explain where those Khan rumors came from awhile back.

The Transformers in Revenge of the Fallen for the IMAX sequences were rendered at 4K resolution. Fake IMAX is two 2K projectors one for each eye.

Still love this trailer.

That was a great trailer. Though on closer inspection, a lot bugs me. Why was a woman in the late stages of pregnancy onboard an active warship? Why were they building a starship in Iowa of all places?

I'd ask why on Earth period, since they normally build them in space. Maybe some would be built on Earth for whatever reason. But Iowa?

Some questionable writing.

It wasn't a warship, Nero sneak attacked them during flight when he time traveled. That was a huge part of the plot in the movie

Also...why not Iowa? How is that questionable writing? :o
And I would think it would be a lot cheaper to build a spaceship on Earth then in space where they would not only have to send everyone up to space but also train them, send all the bulky items to space, and buy expensive space suits for everyone.

Anyways, that is one of my favorite trailers ever.

Yes, yes it was. The Kelvin actually shot back. It was just completely outmatched. Unless you want to debate whether or no Starfleet really is a "military" or not.

They had it in Iowa, so Iowa native Kirk could just ride up to it, so the audience could look at it and awe. Doesn't it seem coincidental that the USS Enterprise just happened to be built where Kirk lived? A place otherwise completely unassociated with Starfleet? Even though the rest of the plot is set in California and space.

No, it would be expensive, and impractical to launch starships from Earth. Provided you have resources in space or on the moon. Which Trek has, and that's why virtually all Star Trek starships are built in space. Construction in zero gravity is actually one real-life advantage of space industry. Robots can easily move around the entire frame. But I digress.

Not the first time a Starfleet vessel has had pregnant passengers on board.

Didn't Worf deliver a baby on an episode Next Generation?

Probably the first person to ever be pregnant on a Federation starship was Commander Trip Tucker, and as I recall he was none to pleased with the situation.

The movie had questionable writing but those parts weren't questionable at all.
