Star Trek Sequel - Part 1

I am warming up to the idea of seeing Khan again, but [...] in a completely different storyline than [...] Space Seed.

well, SOMEONE has to find the Botany Bay. Or Khan would still be asleep.
I hope it's the Klingons who find him...
or maybe he just takes over Andoria...

What if Captain Piccard has to journey back through time in the later Enterprise to hunt down and kill Kirk in order halt the alternate timeline he created to prevent some sort of chaos in the future.

That wouldn't make sense. Picard could only travel back in time in the original timeline. The creation of this alternate timeline did not result in the destruction of the original.

They both exist from my understanding.

Why not have it be a little bit more simple ? That another person from the original timeline comes looking for old Spock ? If Spock can do what he did. Then surely he would have told the original Enterprise crew before leaving ?

  • Cardassians - TNG era and won't be used.
  • Klingons - A possibility
  • Q - Too powerful and who wants to see anyone else than John DeLancie play him anyway? And unfortunately JDL has aged to the point where he could not play Q any longer
  • Gorn - Maybe as long as the makeup is a bit better than in "Arena" :yay:
  • Talosians - Not enough of an adversary in my opinion as their entire arsenal of powers are based on manipulation of the mind. I don't think this would carry a film these days, which is unfortunate
  • Alternate dimensional beings - Yeah why not?
  • Ghosts with their consciousness stripped from their body - Er, no. Star Trek has never been about the supernatural, there have been episodes that looked as if something might be supernatural, but was usually explained as another type of phenomena in the end. Especially in TOS, such as "Wolf in the fold"
I don't think the writers should go with an already established villain/character as the protagonist for this film. After all, what is the point of effectively re-booting the series with a new Universe and the just re-using characters? I'm all for seeing some familiar faces, but I don't want another Khan...

I also do not want to see a cookie-cutter, moustache twirling villain. Something like Nero but with more depth. Perhaps an event that puts the entire Federation in danger, maybe even some form of natural phenomena that someone thinks is beneficial but actually will destroy. Or how about the discovery of an ancient civilisation which is reactivated by a naïve academic and threatens the Federation, possibly even taking control of said academic.
Enter the Enterprise and her crew to sort it all out.

I heard we might get a real Engineering set this time. Anyone know anything more?

If I knew anything about Star Trek engineering, I could probably tell you.

Maybe a hybrid between Q and Charlie X? Just spitballin' the Q idea.

I wouldn't mind an internal threat. Standard exploration mission. Planet in trouble. Enterprise wants to help. Meanwhile a Changeling has awakened on the surface and is trying to take over the Enterprise so it can start the journey back to the Gamma Quadrant.

That sort of thing.

Pretty sure they'll be using the brewery again, but I would be surprised if Scotty didn't have a more specific "area" that he works in.

There was an interview a while back that confirmed they were planning to build a set this time around.

I think Prometheus is going to set the standard for excellent Sci-Fi sets that all other film makers will have/want to aspire to.

I wouldn't mind the crew of the Enterprise running into the Gorn and being held hostage during an away mission. Perhaps some Klingons have either been captured in the same way and they have to work together to escape or they are there to buy them for slaves and get a hold of the Enterprise. Although instead of the Klingons getting it, the Gorn wish to use it as a means of getting their primitive society to other worlds and conquering them.

I think a given humanoid alien race, even the Klingons themselves, are insufficiently "big" enough to be the main antagonist of the next film. Maybe as a supporting villain, or a secondary but omnipresent threat, but not the major obstacle of the film.

Most of the villains in Star Trek except Kahn, the Borg Queen, and Nero are completely forgettable. The story could literally be about anything and the most important part is the growth of the characters.

It would be interesting to see a Federation colony taken over by the Gorn in revenge for a large ship presence in their territory in space. After Kirk victoriously destroys a Klingon ship in battle, he comes to think he is some sort of hot shot captain, he himself, his away team, and his ship are all taken hostage by the Gorn who are angry over those of their species accidentally killed aboard that ship. They take control of the Enterprise intend on reverse engineering its technology and using the ship itself to attack a long disputed Star Base that is resting in their territory because of the war with the Empire.

The Klingons would be more than enough. They are a pretty deep race...not just "rar!! I'm a Klingon! Let's kill stuff!" wayy wayy more to Klingons than that.

an hour late, but oh well its still the 22nd on the west coast.

HAPPY 81ST BIRTHDAY WILLIAM SHATNER!

Well Abrams is known for secrecy. He should have done this in the first place.

So no one got a picture of William Shatner kissing Obama? :o
