oh i'll be seeing the film despite not being impressed with their choice....

i'll be happy if they at least include Klingons.

I've never been a big Star Trek watcher, but coming in here and seeing multiple posters swearing or promising they won't see ST2 because they cast a great English actor (Benedict Cumberbatch) as Khan is pretty hilarious. It kind of fits a cliché, because we all know everyone here will see that movie.

Now, I don't know much about the Trek universe, but apparently Khan was supposed to be a great Indian or Sheikh warrior? Did they even mention that in Wrath of Khan? In any case, Ricardo Montalban, a Mexican actor with prosthetic muscles never looked like that.

It's just really funny that people are complaining about the casting of a great actor as the villain in a movie.

He was the leader of a group of genetically engineered humans. They were the peak of physical and mental perfection. They killed millions during the eugenic wars

^I don't throw sequels to good movies away without you know seeing previews and stuff. Then again I'm not a ****ing hardcore Star Trek nerd. You are entitled to hate the film sight unseen and think that the filmmakers are tired and lazy for using a villain that hasn't be used in decades though.

Me? I'm going to wait and see what happens.

:funny:

The fact that they cast someone for the role who doesn't seem to fit with what we know about the character only gives me more hope for the story.

I agree, Bunk.

Cumberbatch is going to supply a terrific performance.

Besides, Khan has not been confirmed. If anything, I suspect he will be an original villain, or an obscure one.

IF they're doing Khan I'd love to see them do the Eugenics Wars in a flashback.

I have to admit that, man, Benedict as Khan is such a strange piece of casting I've seen in years. At least get someone who's remotely exotic looking because Benedict is text book white Brit. I love the guy though.

I don't possess a huge knowledge of Star Trek lore, outside of the basic species and overall story, but one thing I do know is Cumberbatch is a good actor and I was absolutely floored by the last Trek film. Whatever the filmmakers happen to do, I'm all for it. Bring it on, I'll be there opening day.

Star Trek 2: Stop Whining About Khantinuity

I'm curious how they'll deal with the Eugenics Wars. They could just confirm that it was something that happened in the 1990's and somehow retcon the parts with Khan's origin. Somehow I think they would prefer to not to make the movie universe that blatantly different.

Different timeline, different Trek, Different Khan. I like it.

I haven't seen Cumberbatch in anything yet and while I can't "picture" him as Khan I'm not made about him being cast at all. My problem is with them using Khan himself. I feel like the writters jumped through some many insane hoops and they did it in style, so that we could enjoy all new stories without fear of removing any of the beloved ST shows and movies we love. So I'd much rather see them do a new story with some far lesser known characters like the Gorn, rather than see them remake a classic.

I'd prefer a Latino But I think Cumberbatch is an awesome actor and I feel he can pull it off,Am kinda disappointed But I'll still be at the theaters for the film!!

Not sure the need some have to get an all-new villain,The article that talks about the actor&Khan mentions it won't be a re-hash of the TOS episode not the third Trek film so that's a bonus!!

Star Trek II: The Rekhaning (it works on multiple levels! :woot:)

Personally, I'm a huge fan of Khan, the Augments, and the Eugenics Wars, I've always been interested in that aspect of the Star Trek lore and have wanted to see more of it. Cumberbatch certainly isn't the first actor that comes to mind when I picture someone new playing Khan, but he's such a terrific actor that I'm really not worried at all that he doesn't have the right look. I'm sure he's going to be excellent, and I can't wait to see the movie.

You already know if he is chosen people are going to gripe about Khan being whitewashed. Which technically wouldn't make sense due to his genetics, but people that know who played the first one will raise an eyebrow, regardless of how good an actor the old boy may be.

I'm not griping about "whitewashing" or about whoever plays Khan....I'm griping about Khan being included *at all.*

I think that the filmmakers are tired and lazy for using a villain that hasn't be used in decades. (Still waiting for that "new and different" timeline everyone promised)

I'm in your boat man, but I know how iconic the character has become over the decades.

Cumberbatch is incredible. Everything I've seen and heard so far for this movie looks excellent.
