I find it interesting that in the prime universe, Kirk has hazel eyes and McCoy has blue eyes. But in the new alternate reality, Kirk has blue eyes and McCoy has hazel eyes.

People who want Khan will inclined to believe Khan will appear and vice versa. Who are we to crush people's dreams as the true will be revealed soon enough.

I, for one, can honestly say that I just want a kick-ass movie that is better that the last one and I thought the last one was great. A 3 out of 4 movie in fact. The 3 things that I will think will make this movie a success isn't the inclusion or exclusion of Khan, but 1. A great story, 2. A great story and 3. A great story.

We don't to crush the "dreams" of fans who do don't want Khan as the baddie either.

We know soon enough. Supposedly they wanted to cast this "unknown" villain role in January. So something will come up.

J.J. Abrams Teases 'Amazing' 'Star Trek' Sequel
But director wouldn't give up too many details about the film due May 2013.
By Kara Warner (@karawarner) Dec 20 2011 6:20 PM EST

When it comes to getting the gory details about the "Star Trek" sequel, J.J. Abrams is a master of a few words and not revealing anything too juicy. Nevertheless, when MTV News encountered the writer/director/producer at the premiere of "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" recently, we came armed with questions, the first of which was when we'll find out whether Khan will be in the picture.

"It's a little early to be talking about 'Star Trek,' but I will say that they wrote — the three writers, Damon [Lindelof], Bob [Orci] and Alex [Kurtzman] — they wrote the most amazing script, and I'm thrilled to get a chance to direct it," he said. "It's totally mine to screw up, so if you don't like it, it's completely on me. Our sets are almost done, so we're going to go back and start shooting next month."

Abrams, being the perfectionist that he is, went on to say that he hopes to improve upon a few things in the first film, but didn't mention what those fixes or improvements may be.

"I'm sure, like many people, you see what you do and you go, 'I really could have done that one better, I should have done that, that was a mistake, more of this, less of that.' You always do that," he said. "I'm hoping that as we do the next one, all the mistakes that I've made that I've hopefully learned from, I can bring to this one and hope make it better."

A master of no information, Abrams is. We did manage to get him to talk about whether "Trek 2" will be shot in 3-D and/or IMAX, however.

"We're shooting on film, 2-D, and then we'll do a good high-end conversion like the 'Harry Potter' movie and all that. Luckily, with our release date now we have the months needed to do it right because if you rush it, it never looks good.

"We were talking about [shooting in IMAX] and I would love to do it. IMAX is my favorite format; I'm a huge fan," he added.

And finally, because we decided to go for the goods while we had him, we asked Abrams for an update on the long-discussed "Cloverfield" sequel. "I wish I could give you an update," he said. "We would love to do it if there was an idea that is worth your time. We're playing with some ideas, but we haven't found the one that you go, 'That's the reason to do it.' "

Next “Star Trek” Adventure: No Original Cast Members 12/20/11 1:47am Roger Friedman
The next “Star Trek” installment, directed by J.J. Abrams, will have no members of the original cast. No Shatner, no Nimoy. No classic recipe Kirk, Spock, Bones, Scotty, Uhura, Chekhov or Sulu. The last “Star Trek” film featured Leonard Nimoy as Spock. But sources close to the next film, many of whom worked with Abrams on the new “Mission Impossible,” confirmed for me last night that none of the originals has been invited back this time. “MI4″‘s Simon Pegg, who now plays Scotty (original Scotty, James Doohan, is in space heaven now with original Bones, DeForrest Kelly), quipped, “That would involve time travel. And if the real Scotty showed up, that would be something.”

I just can't wait to see Pine in a yellow shirt for the whole movie, as opposed to the last two minutes.

Orci: Bruce Greenwood Written Into Star Trek Sequel Script
December 20, 2011

by Anthony Pascale Most Trek fans agree that Bruce Greenwood excelled in his performance as Captain Pike in the 2009 Star Trek movie. And now a co-writer/producer for the sequel has revealed we should probably expect Greenwood to return for the sequel.

Greenwood’s Pike written in for Star Trek sequel
Commenting here at TrekMovie.com yesterday, Star Trek sequel co-writer/producer Roberto Orci let a little sequel tidbit out of the bag with this comment:
boborci: Spoiler alert!
We wrote a part for Greenwood. Let us hope he says “Yes!”
While Greenwood’s Pike was a major role in the 2009 Star Trek movie, he (unlike the others in the main cast) didn’t have a set option to return for the sequel. However the actor has been clear in interviews over the last few years that he is very interested to return to the role of Pike, who was promoted to Admiral at the end of the 2009 movie.

But what will Pike be doing? – and will he be in the chair?
While Orci has revealed that they have written a role for Pike in the sequel, it isn’t know if we will see him in a wheelchair. Pike was last seen in a chair due to injuries from being tortured by Nero. Greenwood has said in interviews that he would prefer not to be in the chair for the sequel.

From cadet to acting first officer to captain. He'll be a fleet admiral by the time the sequel is over.

I hope they don't blow up the Enterprise in the Star Trek sequel.

I like that they're not having any cameos from the previous incarnation. They're fun easter eggs, but it takes away from what the new cast is trying to do.

I don't see a reason he would still need to be in a chair. It's the freaking future, they should be able to either fix his legs or give him exo-skeleton support.

But if they are following the same timeline rules of TOS, then they have to put him in a wheelchair right? Unless Nero came back from the future and patended cyborg legs.

ediT: I mean, I dunno, I guess they weren't any folk walking around with an exo-skeleton in the timeepriod of TOS, and folk still had to be in wheelchairs if they lost the ability to walk.
I don't recall what happend to him in TOS timeline, i saw the two parter where they had that trial and all, and he was in a wheelchair, but he was pretty much disabled all over there iirc, not just his legs, couldn't talk, scarred face.
But anyway, y'know, they can't just be throwing in tech that didn't exist in the original timeline, that events in the TOS timeline would contradict.

You've got to be joking. They have casual interstellar travel but they can't fix... whatever is physically wrong with Pike? Who presumably is fairly well off being a high ranking officer.

As I was saying, they can't just throw in new tech that would contradict events on TOS...that is the rules they have set up for themselves.
I am no expert on TOS, but if there was anyone in a wheelchair, who you would think would have had the means for such an exo-skeleton/cyborg limbs, then you can't just throw in that tech.
Pike was in a wheelchair in that two parter, but, as i said in my edit, he was pretty much disabled all over, so maybe you could say exo-skeleton limbs would not have done him any good, i dunno, get a trekkie in here, they know what happened in every ep, they should also have all the fact files if they are a true trekkie.
Maybe they could say this Pike gets exo/cyborg legs, cause they would not have done the other one any good anyway cause he was disabled all over, so that was why he didn't have them in the tv show.

The obsession with TOS continuity is getting very annoying. Especially since a lot has changed since the 1960's. We're supposed to believe that our medical technology will be more advanced in 2060 than 2260? Forget cybernetics, try mildly futuristic stem cell treatments.

Where pray tell did you get this idea? JJ and Co. when through a lot of trouble to come up with a story in the last movie to avoid this very thing.

Here is a little tip. Start buying anywhere between penny to one dollar stocks on Stem Cell Research companies and just let it ride for 10-15 years while you monitor it of course.

Stem Cell Tech to cure folks is the wave of the future IMO. :word:

Well, given that they have established the only differences in the timeline is Nero coming back from the future, and that event's direct effect on things, like Vulcan being destroyed, how could that have such an effect on the technology being different?
Unless you wanna say that folk in this timeline have gotten ahold of some of Nero's future tech and back engineered it.
and old Spock is there, but I can't see him giving info on future tech.
I can't recall his exact convo with Scotty, but he might've given him some hints on where he was going.

and, y'know, Thundercrack, I'm not 'obsessed' with TOS timeline, I'm just saying what the rules are, apparently, from what I understand.

No man, I want to see Pine in the tight, shiny greenish one with the plunging neckline. :awesome:

Really? hmm...the way i was thinking about it was, that Kirk is always running about those tight ass little trousers, so maybe the straight female and gay male demographic wouldn't mind seeing, y'know, his pyjama bottoms take a little slip now and again at the back end, I thought that would be you guys equivalent of cleavage.

Nero and Spock coming to the past, which resulted in an alternate universe, is the simple excuse that can always be used to justify the new tech that could and have contradicted events on TOS no matter how far fetch.

Just compare the bridge and the tech and its clear that there is a contradiction. Another example of contradiction was Spock-Prime sharing the transwarp theory with Scotty and the application of it decade prior to its actually introduction.

Of course the real reason for all of this is as follows from this wikipedia article:

The film's production designer was Scott Chambliss, a longtime collaborator with Abrams. Chambliss worked with a large group of concept illustrators, including James Clyne, Ryan Church, creature designer Neville Page, and Star Trek veteran John Eaves.[80] Abrams stated the difficulty of depicting the future was that much of modern technology was inspired by the original show, and made it seem outdated. Thus the production design had to be consistent with the television series but also feel more advanced than the real world technology developed after it.[53] "We all have the iPhone that does more than the communicator," said Abrams. "I feel like there's a certain thing that you can't really hold onto, which is kind of the kitschy quality. That must go if it's going to be something that you believe is real."[81] Prop master Russell Bobbitt collaborated with Nokia on recreating the original communicator, creating a $50,000 prototype. Another prop recreated for the film was the tricorder. Bobbitt brought the original prop to the set, but the actors found it too large to carry when filming action scenes, so technical advisor Doug Brody redesigned it to be smaller.[82] The phaser props were designed as spring-triggered barrels that revolve and glow as the setting switches from "stun" to "kill".[7] An Aptera Typ-1 prototype car was used on location.[83]

What if for the plot of the next movie, Kirk's mother is kidnapped and held against her will by a vessel of Klingons who want her son to surrender the Enterprise over to them so that it can be studied by the Empire. After all it is the Federation flagship and the most advanced in the fleet. Perhaps Kirk after being defeated in a rescue attempt does this and is forced to surrender his ship and crew while it is being studied and must prevent the tactical data from being transmitted to the Klingon High Council.
