He is. A genius businessman. He changed Revenge of the Jedi to Return of the Jedi because one less letter was gonna make him an obscene amount of more money. Money which he could then use to fund Jar Jar.

S-sure?

Does anyone else think the hype for that short science fiction movie R'ha came about kind of suspiciously?

I reckon Disney might be looking at Kaleb Lechowski for the top gig.

Here's the movie if you're curious...

You know, I was watching that earlier and thought he would make one hell of a Star Wars film.

You wouldn't expect Whedon as he is most likely doing Avengers 2.

You do start to wonder some of these directors just don't want the hassle in their life of being subjected to 'Star Wars scrutiny', ie no matter what kind of movie they make, people will forever be talking about it.
If that is the reason for any of these kb's...What a bunch of lilly livered lightweight flower arranging waterballoons.
Screw all the moaners, they are just a bunch of people too scared to go outside and use the internet as an excuse, they are not gonna come down to your house and ewok it, get in the ring and make us some new Star Wars ffs. Chewbacca is getting a bald patch, get a move on.

I think it's a daunting prospect, but most of those that were aproached were aproached with a script in tow. If the scrip doesn't agree with them or if it sucks, that may be a reason. It's a matter of Disney not aproaching people to do the Star Wars they've always wanted, but the Star Wars they're already starting to build and need a director for.

Personally, I agree with Whedon on the fact SW was missing a little bit of character. Jedi just don't bicker that well amongst themselves.

No there is no script in tow. Michael is still writing it, he just started in late October/November on the actual script. He had written an outline prior but that's it. This is what I hate is internet speculation....oh no there must be something wrong. No it's just everyone wants the top directors for this, and many of them are busy. It's just as simple as that.

People like Whedon were contracted and given a dump truck of money to worry about The Avengers 2 and Phase 2 of the MCU. That and a lot of these directors because they have been approached does not mean they have been approached in the sense that they are asked to direct it. What these producers do is give a short list of directors they think may be able to do it, but they are in a running, not chosen. Kathy and her team are choosing wisely. And some of it has to do with the fact that most directors that are big named already have their plates full with contracts. Many film makers don't like to break their contracts (unless your Vaughn who I think really will be the director now).

I hope next week or so we do get an announcement. I think they have picked their person and are just waiting for something.

Here's one that just came to mind: Drew Goddard, the director of "The Cabin in the Woods". One of my few other choices if Robert Rodriguez doesn't direct VII.

Love him as a writer, but as a director, he's still fairly amateur. Might want someone with a bit more experience.

Wait, did someone say Robert Rodriguez? In a serious fashion?

Would that mean Danny Trejo as a sith lord?

Danny Trejo is a Jedi dammit!

Or a bounty hunter named Mach-E.T.E.

You win this thread. Because the bounty Hunter Mach-E.T.E cannot be touched. His machaber can cut through anything. So we can add Jessica Alba apart of this cast, and hope for Jabba's more liberal spirited brother, Jadda the Hutt, that likes skimpier metal bikinis to enslave her.

But ya, RR as a director for Star Wars? Not gonna happen. Like ever.

Don't forget the sexy Rodriguez Twi'lek twins.

Sounds like Steven Seagal's role in Machete.

I wouldn't go that far, unless he doesn't want to. I wouldn't see Disney turning him down if he offered his services.

I could...easily. Spy Kids was meh, and I just don't think he has the skill, he's a decent director (I loved Sin City) but his other works have always been hit or miss. Disney is going to want something much more solid.

Sorry I just never see that happening if so I'll do something...lol.

To go on a little rant with that about RR doing a kids movie irks me.

Star Wars should never be a film "Made for kids" that is what I think caused the downfall and idea behind the prequels. Star Wars the original and the OT everyone went and saw, all ages, no matter who you were, and what it did was "bring out the kid in everyone". That is what is key. Make a good film, but it should be a fun adventure that brings out that child in you with excitement and awe.

The prequels tried to pander to kids, and that's not what they or what we want. Star Wars should be enjoyed by everyone no matter what age. Kids don't want to be "little Anakin Skywalker, or Jedi Younglings". When I was a kid....and I'm sure this is most of you we did not want to be kids, it sucked, we had to do what adults told us, and could never do the exciting things adults do. When I was a kid I never dreamed about being Newt, or John Connor, or Shortround. I dreamed of being Hicks, Reese, or Indy. With Star Wars I always wanted to be Han Solo as a kid, or Luke Skywalker that gets the girl and kisses her after my adventure. Not an annoying kid that yelled :"This is pod racing...or Spinning that's a good trick."

That is what Lucas lost sight of, I know that he made these off of Buck Rogers, but that's irrelevant. Star Wars became massive because it was for everyone, with great adult adventures that everyone including kids mostly wanted to be a part of. We wanted to be taken seriously. To me they did not do that with the prequels. They gave us a kid and his cartoon alien rabbit and a fun kid sized space ship to zoom around on. I don't want a pod racer I want the Falcon!

A little rant I know but that's the problem, make the film first worry about the rest later. Do what they did for Jurassic Park, or TDK or The Avengers, make an incredible film, and kids will love it no matter what. I did not want "kids" films as a kid, I wanted cool films that everyone even adults liked too because it made you feel like an adult in a way.

So make a fun adventure that is taken seriously, but is for everyone, and brings out the kid in everyone. Not something made for kids.

The prequels were a weird combination of pandering to kids (Jar Jar Binks, etc.) and trying to achieve depth that just felt false (jamming the films with boring space politics, attempting an "epic" romance that was entirely too soap opera).

Yes of course, and that was part of the problem, it would go from action/cartoony type stuff, and move to CSPAN mode right after trying to make itself more complex and adult. But in the end, the main goal was to sell merchandise, and there was a massive problem. But to me I saw it as something that went from cartoon mode to CSPAN mode like a light switch going on and off.

But in the end GL kept saying he made them for kid which of course was true and not at the same time.
