Stephen King's "IT" remake has found a writer - Part 2

As much as I love the book, it's not always consistent, and I think King himself is partly to blame for some of the misunderstandings. For example, there is an explanation, very late in the book, of why Pennywise uses the clown lure, while Mike says children at a parade were drawing away from It, as if aware of Its evilness. But beyond these two instances, Pennywise isn't shown to be all friendly.

There's also the commonly held belief that Pennywise uses your fears against you, but this too is inconsistent throughout the book. While Mike and Eddie have encounters with It that are based on some passed trauma, what of Ben? Ben sees It as the Mummy, but at no point is it suggested that he's personally afraid of Mummies. Richie is afraid of the crawling Eye, but he doesn't encounter that until much later in the book, when the Losers go into the sewers. His first encounter is actually a Paul Bunyan statue coming to life, which he later dismisses as a dream. Not exactly a deep fear of his.

The thing to keep in mind is IT is a living sentient creature. With whims and probably moods and different tactics. So just because he can use his prey's fear against it doesnt mean he will always use his prey's fear against it. If anything it makes IT seem more alive and less like an instinct driven animal.

Even Georgie's encounter with it wasn't exactly the thing he feared most. He was afraid of a monster he imagined was in his basement, but when It revealed itself to him, it was described as making the monster from the basement look like sweet dreams by comparison. It was a monster, but it wasn't his monster specifically.

It was the same with Eddie Corcoran...he was killed by the Creature From the Black Lagoon, but at no point in that chapter did he even think about that character.

I think It just preys on fear itself and then just turns into whatever it pleases. It's not consistent, but there never seemed to be any rules.

Creepy Laugh and Creepy Voice but put me on the list of not watching any more of these trailers Im just ready to see the movie. I love the arguments of how this won't be as great as the mini series was. In that I ask I don't remember the Mini series being that good I mean sure Tim Curry Killed it as Pennywise and the kid actors were good but the 2nd part pretty much fell apart for me.

Other than Tim Curry I never really cared for the original mini series.

Tim Curry and the kid actors were great. I found the adult actors though outside of Jon Ritter were very campy though imo.

Who wants to start guessing what the RT score on IT will be?

I'm guessing... between 74 - 78%.

They are ramping up the marketing already, I've seen like five commercials since last night.

Will this movie cover the the protagonists as adults?

I thought Heath Ledger had given the same complaint, that playing the Joker had disturbed him greatly. :(

Not really, no. In fact he said playing Joker was the most fun he'd ever had acting.

Even having see a rough cut of the movie, it's hard to pinpoint where this will land exactly. But I think we're looking at 70% at the absolute lowest.

While I love a lot of King's work I can honestly say that Pet Semetary is pretty much the only time I've gotten freaked out reading a book. It really just got under my skin. I think a big part of it was rooted in how much of King's real anxiety comes through in that book. The whole situation with the house next to the highway was directly based on King's own home at the time and he had a young son. Something about that book just gets under my skin and not in the vicarious fun way that horror usually does.

Misery disturbed me. Because the scenario is plausible, and Annie Wilkes is a terrifying character (and surprisingly realistic). Heck King loosely based her off of a real life serial killer even.

Yeah Annie Wilkes is terrifying. A flesh and blood psychopath that could be anywhere around us in real life.

Horror RT scores are hard to guess for me just because not all critics like horror. I want it to be like Cabin in the Woods and end up with one in the 90's, but I bet it's somewhere in the high 70's.

It's the cookie cutter horror/slasher flicks that usually end up with low scores. Much like Get Out, this one looks far better crafted than your average horror movie.
