Sci-Fi Stranger Things (Netflix) - Part 1

I think what most mean about season 3 putting more Cold War influence is directly involving Soviet agents or other "metas" possibly. If any Russian assets have similar abilities to 11 then they easily can see through the cover story about what happened in Hawkins.

That's what I was thinking too. Numerous interesting plotlines they could explore here.

I don't think the only purpose of 11 was remote viewing. My sense was that was one thing out of a few objectives. That scene in season one felt more like a test. Also Modine in season one talks about how auspicious it will be that they make contact with something alien/other worldly, which is what led to the opening of the portal, which true, was an unintentional consequence.

11 seemed to be the prized "golden goose" of the lab and Modine's character in particular, but with 8's reveal, we know that there are at least 9 other "metas" unaccounted for. 11's Pride of place and the lack of hints at more empowered individuals could imply that the others were seen as failures in some way or that her powers were seen as the most useful (especially the spying part.)

What kind of powers would you think would be cool to see in Season 3? Pyrokinesis? Telepathy? Plain old fashioned super soldier?

Recently watched one of Grace Randolph's videos in which she talked about her dislike of the fact that 8 had a different power. She thinks all the "lab rats" should just be telekinetic, which is weird...on many levels. For one, 11 isn't just telekinetic, as evidenced by her viewing ability.

I think they should keep any possible future "siblings" of 11's powers within the general category of "mind powers " so to speak. So yeah, mind reading, mind controlling, manipulating another's nervous system, pyrokinesis, that sort of stuff. Basically the grab bag of abilities we usually associate with characters in Stephen King stories. I don't think they should ever cross over into anything that kind of explicitly into X-Men/super hero territory. So no super strength, teleporting etc.

Well Grace is a well known idiot, so...

I finished season one and it was fantastic! Now on to the next. It will be nice to be caught up with the rest of you, lol.

I hope you enjoy it Squeeks. What were your general impressions of season one? Anything you didn't like? When it comes to season two I'd like to know your opinion on the infamous "X-Men" episode, given your affinity for those characters.

I liked that the demogorgon wasn't stupid looking like most tv monsters. I liked Eleven's final play against it. I liked that the whole story line seemed actually plausible and very Stephen King like. The casting was fantastic, I liked Will's older brother best.:)

Anofher thing -- Im older than most of you and grew up in the 80s. I used to watch my older sister at Dongeons and Dragons with her friends. This brought back many fond memories. :)

Noice.

I was only born in '94, but I grew up listening to a lot of 80's songs. My uncle had a great collection of them. Guess that also explains why I'm also so big into synthwave nowadays. That and, that decade contains some of my favorite movies period.

Anytime a show has great music in it like this one is a win for me. It makes everything better. :)

Yep, I knew you'd like it! ;)

Not long to go.

Yeah. I had no idea the music was going to be so cool. Really helped set the mood.

I don't think it's a coincidence that my most favorite shows all had great songs in them. :)

Ha!

Steve really did become easily favorite character in this season. They basically grabbed all the threads that. Made him surprisingly endearing at the end of last season and just injected steroids in them.

Steve's face keeps getting wrecked but his hair remains on point.

I swear... both Steve and Dustin became my favorite characters this season.

Steve waking up in a pontiac with four kids and one is driving was hilarious.

What are your other favorites?

Justified, Sons of Anarchy (the earlier seasons), and GreysAnatomy (again, early seasons). I got lots of music from all three. Blacklist had good songs, but the story crashed and burned early. :)

I also got a lot of great songs from True Detective on HBO. :D

Just finished watching season 2.

Bob's death absolutely destroyed me, though I had a sneaking suspicion that he was headed for a Barb-like end from the first episode. Bob and Barb even sound alike.

Poor Dart! I wanted him to survive too, even if he is a murderous hellbeast.

Billy was hugely annoying, but I guess the payoff for his character will be in season 3. His flirtation with Mrs. Wheeler was absolutely hilarious, though. That gang El spent episode 7 with were also super-annoying, especially Axel and the white girl.

I've seen lots of complaints about the kid crew being separated for most of the season but I had no problem with it. I thought each individual subplot was compelling.

Steve and Dustin really were the MVPs of season 2. It's amazing the arc Steve has gone through, and Dustin in the finale broke my heart.

Oh thanks for that. I've seen quite a bit of Sons Of Anarchy and a few episodes of the others. Music definitely makes a lot of difference for me on these as well.

Agreed on Bob, Billy (apart from Mrs Wheeler lol), Dart (although I would have stamped on his head while he was smaller) and the crappy gang.

I'd never heard of the Black Keys before Sons. Hard row was the first song of the first episode and my eyes just about bugged out. Good thing FX was kind and posted the song lists with each episode. :)
