Sci-Fi Stranger Things (Netflix) - Part 1

I wouldn't be surprised if they stopped releasing physical Blu-rays for the show's individual seasons since it's a little suspect that we haven't gotten a season 3 Blu-ray set by now but I'd be disappointed if there was no Complete Series box set after season 5 hits.
Yeah I think (hope) that we'll get a complete box set at least. Even though I already have the first 2 seasons, I wouldn't mind a 4k box set of the whole show.

But I wouldn't be surprised if we don't get it. Unless Criterion swoops in, Netflix hasn't really been releasing their shows in home media form that much anymore. Which is unfortunate.

There's a couple of Netflix shows I wouldn't mind owning on blu ray. Probably not in their interest right now to risk losing subscribers though.

Yeah I said in another thread that I'd really like to own Dolemite is my Name and The Night Comes for Us on Blu Ray. I'm really hoping Dolemite is My Name gets a Criterion release. That seems more likely than The Night Comes for Us

The only glimmer of hope for a physical release is that it’s the most popular Netflix show of all time. That at least has to count for something, right?

Could have done without all the spiders this season.

They keep killing beloved new characters in the same season they are introduced.

That subplot with Chrissy's boyfriend was dog**** and a time suck. This show is too late in its narrative to be wasting time on characters and narratives like that.

The clueless jackboot military goon murdering and torturing people to find El while people in Hawkins are still being killed wasn't any better.

Remember when GRRM said he wants his audience to fear for his characters when they are surrounded/being attacked by enemies? You know, I don't get that fear for any of the characters in Stranger Things.

And don't get me wrong. I appreciate that the creators are aware that "Stranger Things is not Game of Thrones", because it shouldn't be. But it's kind of losing the impact for me.

And I know one died, but when you look back, it's the same formula since S01. They introduce someone especifically to die.

I also did not enjoy at all the super long episodes, but I think that's been discussed. Hopefully they will change it for next season.

And I hope they give Will some storyline that doesn't reduce him to "the gay character".

I had a big eye roll when we were back to that so late in the show. Keep to the best parts as you zone into the conclusion. Hopefully the show ends in season 5 focusing only on the most important characters and sub plots. I want the final couple of episodes of the show to be infinitely rewatchable with no fat.

At least Will has been said to have a larger role next season, and also if anyone important is going to die the final season is the best time to do it.

Yeah I really disliked the brain dead jocks and all the screen time they got when it would have been better spent on more deserving characters like Mike, Will, and Jonathan.

I didn't have a problem with the runtime. It's how they use it that matters so really the two bad subplots were the only issue for me. If they can stay focused in season 5 I'd be happy to get another long season.

I thought I wouldn't like Hopper's story this season but that ended up being one of my favorite plots of the show.

Well you'll be glad to know that the Duffers recently confirmed that season 5 won't be as long, and that Will is going to have a major focal point in it.

I didn't mind it as much as so many other people did. I thought season 3 shamelessly flanderized Hopper to cartoonish levels, so I was glad that they dialed it back to his characterization in seasons 1 and 2. Plus I love his bromance with Dimitri and I can't really complain about him using Conan's sword of all things to decapitate a Demogorgon. That was metal as f***.

They confirmed there won’t be as many episodes because they are going to jump right into it rather than setting up the mystery again. They didn’t say the episodes would be any shorter.

They said that it probably wouldn't be as long as season 4 since the story would be fully contained to Hawkins, so I'm not wrong there either. I'm pretty sure we saw that same Netflix Geeked interview, so I'm confused as to why you think that isn't worth taking into account?

It's too early for them to guarantee anything about the runtime. Right now it's a goal they are aiming for. But things could change once they start putting the episodes together in post production.
