Suicide Squad box office prediction - Part 2

I think SS will pass GOTG's total gross(minus China) by the end of this weekend. If you had told me that after the rt score came out,I wouldnt have believed it.Its a great result(all things considered).

We have to remember time and again that China produces inflated box office numbers which do not translate into the same revenue as numbers from, for example, Russia. 700m without China is a lot stronger than 700m with China.

As an example:

Study the chart for Star Wars The Force Awakens, the biggest film of the year.

http://deadline.com/2016/03/star-wa...ovie-profit-2015-lucasfilm-disney-1201726142/

What we see here is a box office gross of over 2 billion with only 125 million dollars profit from China. That's astronomical. Anyway:

Deadline converts "Box Office" to "Rental", i.e. "revenue." With this movie (released in 2016 so it gives us a general idea how the "whizzes" see it,)

Domestic BO: 932.58m, Rental: 512.92m (55.00%)
International non-China BO: 1002.00m, Rental: 400.80m (40%)
China BO: 125.40m, Rental: 31.35m (25%)

It should be noted these are estimates on the part of Deadline, and different movies may have different contracts, but it gives us a blueprint to work off. In this context it becomes very clear how well Suicide Squad has performed.

Man of Steel international revenue: $141,284,000
Suicide Squad international revenue: $141,480,000

As you see SS has already surpassed Superman's international revenue and that's using outdated numbers.

They aren't reported until Sunday.
May not happen today because of vacation. Let's see!

SUICIDE SQUAD makes an estimated $10.00M 3-day weekend, down 18.3%, for $297.42M through five weekends. #SuicideSquad

A modest 150% increase from last week will see the 5th Monday gross at 2.6 million. That means SS will break the 300 million mark on the 32nd day since it's release in the domestic markets, just like I predicted. :woot::woot:

SUICIDE SQUAD scored $11.8M overseas this weekend, $375M total. UK ($42M) BRZ ($33M) MEX ($26M) RUS ($24M) OZ ($24M) FRA ($18M)

that makes it 672 million WW - 297 Million Domestic/375 Million International

Haha, I was surprised by the low figure for the week and then I saw it's actually for the weekend and the drop is just 40%. That is extremely good.

I'm really surprised that SS is still doing so well even after 5 weeks. :woot:

Thanks for the regular updates, dc_mos.

I'm glad WB is making money. I wish BO reflected quality.

Great numbers. Really happy for SS :)

Only 3M more and it will reach 300M domestic. And some were going on and on how it will never even get close to that.

Notice how all those people disappeared when the numbers started coming out!

I'm glad it's doing so well because I really enjoyed the movie! I Nb hope we get a sequel, with Diablo coming back.

Well that's a good run overall there's no denying that (especially with Japan still to open on Sept 10th). Better legs than I anticipated, especially in the international markets. Since this year, WB is really making up for the artistic shortcomings of their DCEU releases by picking great release dates ensuring little to no competition and massive, amazingly effective marketing campaigns.

That performance more or less cements , after 3 outings now, the DCEU as the Twilight version of superhero sagas, with critically panned films, mismatched audience scores driven upwards by an active fanbase and that end up doing good/very good numbers at the box office.

I guess congrats WB ?

I don't think that fanbase alone is responsible for SS's Box Office success as fanbase forms a small percentage of overall movie going audience.

I mentioned the fanbase in relation to audience score on websites such as rottentomatoes, not in relation to the box office performance of SS.

But again I think the Twilight comparison is relevant even when it comes to box office performance unless you really want to argue that the Twilight movies consistently grossing around 700M shows the broadness of their appeal and how they've been truly embraced by general audiences, which I don't. SS domestic performance, with a massive opening week end followed by steep drop shows in and off itself the impact of the fanboy effect. Granted things appear to have played differently in international markets but that was expected with a lesser known IP and scattered release dates. I'm not saying fanbase alone explains those numbers but I think it definitely played a part in that performance. Not that it's a bad thing per se btw. Time (and sequels) will tell.

Hmm pretty good numbers...

....but didn't the haters say that this movie has to make a trillion dollars just to break even??

Sigh

Whats the multiplier looking at right now?
