If you look at Rotten Tomatoes scores w/o reading selected reviewers that you respect, you're doing it wrong. You and cinema deserve better.

Bad writing. Bad pacing. Bad dialogue. Bad villains. Bad editing. Too many expository spoken scenes. Too many lame jokes. Too many meh performance and/miscastings.

Top of my head.

So what is he saying? I am a little confused. Is he saying you should read reviews from people you respect and agree with?

I felt bad for Scott Derrickson after The Day The Earth Stood Still. I loved that movie.

I was not happy with Batman v Superman, but I'm still going to see Suicide Squad and keep as an open mind as possible.

Still a lot more reviews to come out.

he's saying a high or low score shouldn't sway your perspective on whether a film is good or not... instead you should look at the critics you know and trust, and see what they are saying

As I said earlier: Tomatometer doesn't tell you about the quality of the film -- it just gave a score on critical agreement.

I think he's saying you shouldn't just look at the RT score only and maybe a bad score could be misleading. Like what are the writers and reviewers you like and respect say about the movie rather than just the basic score?

So if you end up loving two of the three DC films is it a total failure?

No, but it doesn't bode well for the future of the DCEU if all three movies so far have been, at best, divisive. If SS stays at 33% or drops lower, if word of mouth is bad, and if it has a huge dropoff in its second week like BvS, then it doesn't matter how much I like it. The DCEU will continue of course but... there will likely be more personnel shakeups behinds the scenes and more prioritizing Batman over everything else because WB will think he's the only character anyone likes.

I'm beginning to wonder if the reason we've heard so little about Shazam is because the Rock caught wind of the mess that is the DCEU right now and has been filling up his schedule with other projects.

Instead of looking at the reviews clumped together (Ex. the RT score). Look at the ones you trust then form an opinion

And then take there word? Where is the part where you make up your own mind there exactly?

Thanks. I kinda feel bad and I agree with him.

He knows how David Ayer is feeling right now. Can't believe TDTESS got 21%.

Or, as I like to call it.... 'Echo Chambering'.

the problem with RT (I find) is that many films aren't flatly "good" or "bad," they are somewhere in-between, with strong and weak elements. RT has a binary review system that removes nuance from critical reviewing in favor of an overly simplistic thumbs up or down aggregation. the RT score is obviously not irrelevant, but gets blown way out of proportion in terms of its actual significance

If I may ask Poni, which actors/characters did you think worked the best, and which were really off?

Courtney and Robbie were absolutely, unequivocally the best thing in this movie for me. They seemed to be actually having fun with the ridiculousness of it. Affleck's time was short and sweet. Smith, bleh. He had one solid, memorable scene but the rest of the time he irked me. I don't understand the praise for Davis. It was the least demanding main role in the story. She either explained things or looked angry. Leto was atrocious. No idea why he or Ayer thought that was a good idea. Felt like a C-level blaxploitation movie character. Everyone else was forgettable.

If he was doing that, wouldn't he already be banned? The mods don't put up with that here.

He does it all the time. :funny:

Remember when that communion clip came out and he was like "Oh wow I didn't think they would reveal Darkseid this soon. That's definitely Darkseid. I saw concept art and it said Darkseid"

:funny:

If I can say something. I haven't seen Suicide Squad yet. But I think the darkened color palette works for a movie like say Suicide Squad.

However, in terms of the DCU movies, all the color in them looks drained and washed out. Even Justice League. Like that Comic-Con sizzle reel...it just looks so dark and drained. The problem is that it makes the movie look bland and it makes you feel dour. I don't think a Justice League movie should look or feel like that.

Just saying, going from BTAS to Justice League, Justice League did not have the same color palette as BTAS or TNBA. They made it a more colorful, brighter show.

Jesus Christ. Are people and critics whining about the color grading? ****ing cry babies. Ill take MOS, BvS, and SS cinematography over the MCU's bland bright "happy" cinematography any day.

he's subconsciously saying that he's just glad to direct a movie that is guaranteed to get a fresh score on rotten tomatoes

Top of my head.

Who gave a bad performance or was miscast. I thought the cast at least on paper fit their roles great
