if that's the case then they are stupid. these movies are still profitable and characters like Batman will continue to be a big box office draw for a long time, regardless of what the critics say

i agree the situation could be better but there's no reason to panic about the franchise just yet
The problem is DC feels like they are already at that peak The more times this happens, the more times they continue to lose money. These movies don't get cheaper. They get more expensive. And as general audiences sour more and more, profits won't be there at all. They won't go from small profits to larger ones. They will go for tiny profits to being in the red. Because the big openings will start disappearing.

That is why BvS is bad news for JL. Because of the association with BvS. If SS opens big and then follows BvS off the cliff, that is not good for the characters associated with it.

the "no reason to panic" was specifically in response to the idea that the franchise will be imminently canceled, which is far from evident

feel free to panic about this particular film if that's your thing, its not mine
Believe me, I'm not in any state of panic.

I don't know how to quote from the old thread but I still stand by what I said. Separated universes for the DC characters would have been a very boring path to take. I want the characters to interact with each other like they do in the comics/cartoons.

I'm most fascinated by Wan and Aquaman. With his horror background I'm really looking forward to seeing what he brings to the table in a Lovecraftian sense.

Momoa looking like a total badass in that JL footage also helped.

Wan is a fantastic director and Momoa looks great in the part, I'm intrigued by Aquaman and I think it will work. But then again I also think Suicide Squad will work and I'll like it, so what do I know? :funny:

I watched the Extended Cut. The studio should have interfered more.

The extended cut only seemed to be enjoyed mostly by people who already liked the theatrical cut. The additional footage wasn't enough to turn a hater into a fan.

As I said before, they won't "cancel" it. What will happen is we will be back to Batman and Batman alone. They have already pushed him front and center to everything relevant in the universe.

LOL, you guys just made me concerned that WB only picked Wan because they want Aquaman to look like a horror film.

DARK = DEEP

This is what happens when you release a 4 year film slate based on a "meh/bleh" movie as your foundation. I can't say I'm surprised...

WB aren't gonna reboot why is this a thing? Maybe once SS numbers are in we can start discussing this but it's currently premature.

Why the **** can't DC make a decent god damn movie!? What the ****!? They can't even ACCIDENTALLY stumble upon a success! I'm so ****ing done with this ******** universe...

subjective feelings aren't facts
I speak of money. I speak of how BvS only made 200m more then MoS after opening to much more WW and had like no competition. I speak to how even Civil War saw a "tipping point". They have played their Batman hand. They are playing their "odd ball" team hand, brought to you by a lot of Batman characters.

Turds.

You can't polish 'em.

They might not reboot, but future DC films could be in jeopardy. I could see them restricting solo movies to one a year with a JL or team up movie every other. They could also wrap everything up after JL and just continue on with a Batfleck movie every now and then.

The problem WB has is the moment they decide to reboot is the moment everyone in WB heirarchy is fired. A reboot will kill them for at least a year or two because outside DC films, Harry Potter & Lego, they have nothing to bring to the table. That's why it was so crucial for these films to connect. Investors will be at the throats of management. WB really crapped the bed, because while I enjoyed both MoS & BvS, lots of people didn't and that's not something Marvel films have to worry about.

Me the complete opposite. Lovecraftian Aquaman, hell yeah!!! :woot:

Bring on the dour! Bring on the niche!

DC being MARVEL would over saturste and kill superhero movies as we know it. Even now we have people complaining that a lot of MARVEL films feel the same. Add DC and etc. Superhero films feeling the same and that's bound to speed up people thinking that way.

It doubled down on the "darkness, no parents" idea. It fixed some logic errors, but I actually liked it less. It was a lot longer, and a lot more dour.

Bye! Hasta Luego.... wait until you see the movie, then you can freak out.

plus they have two more films coming after this which won't be canceled and which can change things even if SS isn't a success... there's no stopping this train at the moment

i will say the JL trailer sucked though, the WW trailer put it to shame

I feel so bad for the cast. They were so enthusiastic. The European premiere is tomorrow.... ;(

I never believed the UC made BvS a decent film. Adding extra footage to a crap movie doesn't make the crap movie good.

Do this or go home for me. My interest for these properties would not be the same if they were all standalone (I mean I'd still be excited for and watch & buy all of them). The universe thing is what makes the weaker MCU films more fun to watch and rewatch in a marathon, and puts the teams up like Civil War into the stratosphere for me.
