Back from a nearly sold-out 7pm show in suburban Pittsburgh. Audience seemed to love it, and maybe it was the result of lowered expectations, but I loved it too. I would certainly be all-in for an ultimate edition- could have easily spent another twenty minutes with these characters. If my audience was any indication, perhaps the perversely enthusiastic predictions of huge Saturday drops and terrible legs are a little premature. We'll see!

Well, I do love MoS. Did you post your full SS thoughts and I just missed it?
The movie feels more like a Will Smith vehicle than an ensemble. He was ok, but Harley was just a total ****. Joker is just some craze boyfriend, and the editing is atrocious. I wasn't bored, but I enjoyed the film ironically. I just got out so I'm still processing, but I would only recommend seeing this for the lulz, and nothing of actually value.

Your favorite aspects Rocket?

- Waller
- Harley
- Diablo
- Croc
- Deadshot
^ They owned this movie, in no particular order.

- The score
- The soundtrack choices
- The humor
- The cinematography
- The directing and writing
- The production design
- The costumes
- The action

The weakest part is clearly the editing. There is no doubt there. No argument from me.

I honestly can't give an assessment of Leto. 10 minutes is not enough to say he's my favorite Joker, he's my least favorite Joker, etc. From what I saw in the 10 minutes, I REALLY enjoyed it and I want to see a lot more of him, but to have such a definitive opinion of him based on such little screentime is nuts to me. It's not Joker's movie, he's not the star of the film, and his placement and time in the movie is super well done and appropriate, and tasteful. He's a background character who is there to tease us and leave us wanting more, and it completely worked for me.

For me, the good outweighed the bad here considerably. My 9/10 would be 10 if not for some of the editing choices.

All of DC films are frustrating because they are all choppy poorly edited messes. It's just a matter of if you like enough stuff in the film to ignore the bad stuff.

I totally understand where the people who full fledged don't like the film are coming from.

Overall thoughts on the movie mate? you and I are on the same wavelength I think so I want your opinion! I actually decided not to go yesterday but since a lot of people here like it, I'm willing to put aside known production problems and give it a chance :)

Give it a shot, in my personal opinion. I feel like I walked into this movie trying to find any reason to hate it, and I left feeling glad that I didn't, even with all its bad editing at times. Its the 2nd best movie in the DCEU, could've topped MOS if it weren't for just a few things.

Leto was really quite bad in my opinion. I can kinda understand why they cut a lot of his scenes.

What were your thoughts ISS? I'm sure you posted them but not sure how far back

I don't loathe Leto's performance but it is a weak performance. It's like Eisenberg's in where it just doesn't work and it's hammy for hamms sake.

Maybe that's where I lay. I just really like seeing my favorite comic characters doing cool stuff. I like superman being basically this universes Jesus Christ, I like batman mugging it, I just like seeing these characters leap off the page. Prehaps in my fanboy joy I overlook technical flaws in these films. It just feels good to get excited about these characters and story's like I'm discovering them all over again.

Its actually reached BvS' score on RT now. Down to 27%. Still a lot more reviews to come. Never thought it stood a chance to score lower than BvS.

The material is fine, Leto is the problem.

That's actually worse. Because usually it's the other way around. Great actors given sub par material or direction. If the actor isn't working then it doesn't matter how good the script is, they won't make it work.

There's a crazy amount of mental gymnastics going on in here from fans in denial. They get too emotionally invested in these projects during production and can't take the disappointment when the final product doesn't blow everyone away

Which is silly after what happened with BvS. People should not be shocked by this happening again.

Just keep Jared Leto far away. I think I need to watch some BTAS to bleach my brain

If he's really that bad then hopefully the Batman solo will steer clear of using Joker.

Oh I liked it. I loved Robbie, Davis and Smith. I acknowledge that the film is a choppy pieced together mess but I had a good time. Didn't care for Leto's performance though and that's not a good thing because The Joker is an awesome character.

7/10.

Glad to see you enjoyed it! I haven't been able to determine my score yet...a lot of really really great stuff going on, but with horrendous editing and soundtrack that just wasn't fitting at all IMO. I did however love Leto. Just not what they did to his storyline.

And that's fine, one likes what one likes.

I am glad you enjoyed it so much. My brother is coming with me just to see Harley, and considering all the praise here, it seems he is in for a treat.

Not gonna defend something I haven't seen yet, but in an interview it was said Ayer went after Leto to bring out the "showmanship" part of the Joker's personality since Ayer had written a modernized cartel boss take on the character. So I'm going in expecting him to be hammy.

I disagree. There's plenty of value in Suicide Squad. I was impressed with some of the things they actually set up that I was refreshingly surprised at. Are there some things that are downright useless? Yes, but it's misleading to those who haven't seen to say there's nothing of value. I think there's plenty of that.

Weird to hear that Leto was disappointing. I enjoyed what little we saw of his performance in the trailers; take away those dreadful tattoos and clothes and it's nearly the exact Joker I wanted to see.

Because they are a comic book movies fan? Because they are action adventure fans? Because they are the fan of any various actor in the movie?
I comment here for all of those reasons.

Just got out of the film, and had some time to digest the movie during my drive home. Overall - 7/10 (I should also preface that I had quite possibly the most annoying teenager in the world right behind my wife and I... my gawd was he awfully annoying). I didn't love it, but I enjoyed it. The movie wasn't a masterpiece, and anyone going into the movie shouldn't be expecting to see the second coming of Citizen's Kane.

Having said that, the movie was a solid summer action comedy. My theater absolutely ate it up. They laughed at all the jokes, a few ooo's and ahh's when they saw the joker for the first time, people gave the movie an applause once it ended, etc.

PROS
- Will Smith was a complete badass as Deadshot. This was Will Smith at his finest. His jokes were on point, and his character's motivations were clear throughout the movie.
- Harley Quinn was awesome. What a great job! I honestly think she was born to play HQ.
- Cool fight scenes
- Fun DC cameos/worldbuilding
- Great soundtrack

CONS
- Villain was truly awful. Still not as bad as Malekith, the Mandarin, or Ronan.
- Final act was kind of lame, and felt like something I watched at the end of one of my childhood 90's movies.
- Still not sure what my final verdict is on the Joker

Like I said, 7/10. It was entertaining as hell. Still can't believe how it's being savaged by critics... unbelievable.

Shouldn't Joker be a LITTLE hammy though?

I just saw some clips or Joker and Harley. Loving their dynamic. And I am really digging Leto's voice/portrayal in the clips I saw. Plus he looks great. I just love him in that Tux so much.

Can't wait to see the film this weekend.

I wasn't a fan of the tattoos in the pics or trailers, especially that dreaded "damaged" one, but for some reason in the context of the movie, I feel like it fit really really well. I'd go so far now as to say I even liked them.

Are you sure you weren't in my same row, bro? Haha. Same here. An entire row of teenage girls who giggled and cackled at every chance they got. I know one thing, this is going to be a major hit within' that age bracket. Tons of teens in my showing and the entire row behind me yelped at the ending. It's going to test well with them.

Oh yeah I forgot El Diablo. He was another one of my favorites.

About the joker, I actually think Leto was great , the material was awful. If he had been given another story he would have killed it. The Joker was the biggest disappointment for me :(
I was actually ashamed for telling people for months "I bet Jared is gonna be great! "

Oh, what was he up to? A big talker, kicking the seat, etc?

At least you enjoyed it in spite of the annoying teen.

I am seeing the movie in two hours. I changed my screening to an earlier time. Buckle up, folks. My thoughts will be with you later today.
