Mel Gibson is being considered, as is Jonathan Levine, Reuben Fleischer, Daniel Espinosa among others for SS2 job

I'm sure approaching an anti-semitic, girlfriend punching alcoholic to direct your superhero movie is a great idea.

Go Warner Bros!

And Mel is a better director than every one of the others on that list too.

Why did WB let the trades know about this if it's "less than a sure thing?"

But does tell us that GCS and SS2 are going to come out relatively close to each other, 1 year in between?

One of the people that is also on the list of candidates to helm the sequel is Safe House director Daniel Espinosa while Gibson is taking his time to do his research. Variety is reporting that Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) and Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies) are also being eyed to possibly direct the sequel. Fury director David Ayer helmed the first installment featuring DC villains such as Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, Harley Quinn, Killer Croc and El Diablo which pulled in over $740 million at the worldwide box office.

Don't know how Hollywood process works, if the studio approaches a director and the director researches the project instead of chucking the offer to the bin, and studio releases the news...does that indicate anything?

The article states they're also talking to other directors. So if Mel declines they have backups.

All directors will do initial research if there's an existing IP.

Thanks. I get why Variety says they might expand the list, if Mel passes the gap between him and others on paper are just too...disappointing?

Get the Children of Men director! :yay:

Amazing director, but hopefully the writer is good too... No Ayer script please lol

None of the backups seem all that stellar, really. Ruben Fleischer at least has Zombieland under his belt, but that had a good script accompanying it as well.

That's like, the best choice for ss2. I love it. He would give us the grounded black ops movie we all wanted.

For the first time, I'm at a lost for words with Gibson a front runner lol. Holy hell is that interesting at its finest.

Gibson directing Suicide Squad is crazy and kind of really great. I hope it happens.

I kind of hope it doesn't, tbh. If he's in, I'm out.

If, and that's a HUGE if, Mel Gibson does direct SS 2 then it has a chance of being good. Top it all off, Mel is the type of director that doesn't take s**t from studios so there would be no interference from WB

I'm just not a fan of his work, and I'm definitely not spending any money on a film he's directed. Don't care how good it is.

He's far and away the best filmmaker in the mix right now

I hope he takes it if its there for the taking.

Saw this in the DCEU subreddit concerning Mel's past comments on superhero movies
