Supergirl Supergirl General Discussion Thread - - - Part 12

I
I hope she can still guest star and that she won't be killed off.

I think she's safe. Oliver only died because Amell and MG had this warped sense that Oliver had to die to truly make amends for his 7 years of hell. Supergirl is more optimistic lol.

How long do y'all think Flash got? I'm sensing season 8.

I think Grant is pretty 50/50 and will likely come down to money/episode order as I think most cast members hate living in Vancouver half the year.

Is season 7 the last on their contracts (for Flash)? It would be a big blow to CW if they lose both Supergirl and Flash in the same year.
Yes, Grant's contract is up after this season, but they were talking about extending it before the Pandemic. I bet he will renew for a final season

(On a sidenote, I hope this bodes well for a big-screen Supergirl (with a teen Kara this time around)

I'm all for a teen Supergirl... okay that didn't sound right. But it would be quite unfortunate to introduce Supergirl on film when Superman is damaged goods.

Flash will go for 10 or more. It's like the only thing keeping CW afloat. They promote it like crazy over here. I dislike how bad the show has become, but it's very important to the network.

But I guess she can't play Supergirl forever. There is the younger Kara though from Midvale who did a good job of seeming like a younger version of Melissa. Maybe we should've had a teen Kara in the first place instead of one her 20s.

You know, they could easily bring in Linda Danvers as the new lead of this series. They've already set up the Danvers family and she can be Alex's teen cousin.

But the Supergirl ratings are so low, I doubt it justifies continuing the series.

What show are you watching? lol. They won't kill her off. Quite the opposite. They'll do a cheesy, Full House-like ending, where they all cry and hug.

Dean Cain was the only one they happily and unceremoniously killed off.

Agreed.

I do wonder what this means for Earth-Prime's Justice League. We already lost Kate Kane.

I'm surprised you want her back on the JL. Her absence could be superman's last chance to lead... instead of being the loser in the background :D

I doubt Grant is interested in going that long.

I know it's the angle on that photo, but Superman looks like the shortest one there.

I wonder if this cancellation could mean something is brewing on the movie side for Supergirl?

He doesn't have much else going honestly. This show will likely be the biggest thing he ever does.

The show is constantly topping Netflix Top 10 viewed charts over here in Canada. It's an awful show, but it's CW's #1.

I always thought Melissa Benoist was a great Supergirl even though I never liked the show. Her and Grant Gustin deserve much better than what they have been given by the CW and I wouldn't mind it if she got her own solo movie to be honest. I loved her in the crossovers.
Agree with all of this

I honestly think Grant is better than the CW. Same with Melissa. They both have bright futures after their shows IMO.

Melissa has broadway, and probably more TV gigs in the future.

Grant will probably get more TV work, but nothing as popular or noteworthy as the Flash.

Looking back on the Smallville cast, Kristen and Erica ended up with solid TV work as leads in Canadian shows... but never achieved the same fame as SV. Welling had small gigs and is now more reliant on Convention appearances. Lex is a podcaster.

I wouldn't be surprised if most of the CW-verse stars fade into obscurity when their respective shows end. Grant would be smart to continue as Flash.

The Smallville cast chooses to be lowkey with their careers.

I feel like Grant will do 1 or 2 more seasons, probably has been investing his money wisely so he can chill and do some indie films and acting roles here and there. He'll probably go nowhere near Canada for another role lol.

Remember when S1 gave us this?

I was so excited when it was first announced Red Tornado would appear and then they gave us a guy who looked like he was wearing a carpet lol.
The episode gave us one great moment, on the other hand.

I'm somewhat surprised, because i thought these shows had seven year deals. However at least we get an ending.

Just realized that with Season 6 being Supergirl's last, does that mean we won't get any Aunt Kara moments with Clark and Lois's sons?

I was actually looking forward towards seeing what that dynamic would look like on screen. It would have been a great way to show on how Kara would have looked after Clark if she had arrived on Earth with him.

Many of us predicted it would only go 2 more seasons max now that Melissa’s had a baby. I think ultimately it’s a good thing because the show has never found the right footing imo. Last season was really bad with Supergirl basically been a side character on her own show.

I’ve seen people online blame Superman and Lois which is ridiculous. The CW don’t really cancel shows, Supergirl’s ratings are good enough so there’s no way they’d cancel. This to me is clearly Melissa is done and who knows maybe there’s another cast member or two that feels the same way.

I wonder if this cancellation could mean something is brewing on the movie side for Supergirl?

It’s not been cancelled it’s ending.

It was probably one of those deals where it had an option for a season 7 dependent on certain things. Pages who knows his stuff even said that her contract was 5 CW seasons, many people thought it was six but that was probably an extension based on if Melissa accepts.

I’m sure if Melissa is open to guest appearances they’ll be happy to oblige.

There's a way around this:

Kara's infected by orange kryptonite and is turned into a teenager, where she's played by Izabela Vidovic.

Or have her come from the new Earth-38, where she is Supergirl defending Midvale.

This is for the best. I think CW needs to thin the herd, anyway, with the Arrowverse shows. They have the quantity but lack the quality.
But they aren't thinning the herd.

Whilst it's not a replacement, Supergirl doesn't get renewed, but we're getting Superman instead. Arrow wraps, they try and launch that Canaries show (whatever is even happening with that at the moment anyway?)

We've also got the newer shows in Batwoman and Stargirl (the latter of which is well received, the former, not so much - but we'll see how that does with it's second season). The problem with a lot of these shows isn't the quality, but the quantity in the sense of episode numbers. Stargirl (in my opinion) was that much better because it was a shorter run. Generally shows that don't span half a year are better received because there's a stronger focus on the story and less drawn out concepts.

Black Lightning and Stargirl have stood out for me in that regard. Season 8 of Flash, Season 3 or Batwoman, and any other series that's launched under the DC banner should take note of that. 10-12 episode seasons is ample. If needs be they can always expand the runtime from 45 to 60 minutes.

How long do y'all think Flash got? I'm sensing season 8.
8 at a minimum, double digits (10) at a maximum. I don't see Flash continuing beyond Season 10. Grant's going to want to try other avenues at some point, and by a 10th season, they'll probably run out of decent stories anyway.

Of all the CW shows (at least the superhero shows) Flash, for me, is the one show that could become a sort of Legacy show, so whilst the story of Barry Allen/Gustin Grant could be wrapped up within 8 or 10 seasons, there's nothing to stop the show from continuing on with a different/reformed Wally West, or even a Bart Allen.

Assuming they keep John around, we're two down already here, and I don't see Legends sticking around for much longer. The CW Justice League is truly doomed.

I honestly think Grant is better than the CW. Same with Melissa. They both have bright futures after their shows IMO.
As @MCU King has stated, Melissa has more opportunities than Grant, so Grant may want to stick around for a little longer...

I think Grant has stated that there were opportunities that came up that he couldn’t pursue because of Flash and the filming schedule. I think once his time frees up after the show, he’ll get a lot of work maybe in theater or broadway...or whatever he wants to do.

Just because he doesn't have much going on doesn't mean he wants to do Flash forever. Hell a lot of the reason he might not have a lot going on because he's filming Flash for 90% of the year

Just hasn't been officially greenlit. I imagine that had there been no pandemic, we might have gotten more news about it earlier, but then, Superman & Lois was green lit, so who knows? I know both Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy have been optimistic about a green light, but again, that was earlier in the year and in a bit of last year before we got to where we are now. As far as we know, the CW hasn't necessarily passed on it, but it's just in some weird holding pattern.
