Supergirl Supergirl General Discussion Thread - - - Part 12

I do wonder how much of a factor the Netflix deal is going to have. The shows that aren't part of it seem to be showing up on the CW app. So, I'm not sure what AT&T's plan is here.

I wonder why they're even putting the shows on Netflix when they have HBO Max. Isn't that the name of the game, amass as much unique content for your service as you can?

It was a deal made with Netflix long before HBO Max was a thing. It doesn't extend to the newer shows - Batwoman is already on HBO Max and not Netflix, for example.

Do we know how long their Netflix deal lasts? I'm sure once that runs its course the shows will make their way to HBO Max.

Possibly never, for the shows that are already on there:
Still, many beloved CW series will remain on Netflix, according to the company. Netflix will continue to receive new seasons of shows that are already on the streaming service, like Riverdale, Flash, and Dynasty. Additionally, any CW shows that premiered through this most recent 2018 / 2019 season will remain on Netflix throughout their lifetime, meaning nothing is going to leave the service either.

The CW is ending its Netflix deal, but that doesn’t mean Riverdale is disappearing

There might be a stipulation allowing them to ALSO eventually appear on other streaming services, though. Who knows.

The only show on the entire network that does well enough to warrant the "pay whatever it takes to keep" treatment is The Flash. And honestly at this point, even that's debatable. But I'm sure Grant got a nice pay raise to stick around a little longer.
Yeah, they are in a strange spot. I'm sure Supergirl could have gone another year, but the new baby and the COVID/ production problems I can understand ending it. Flash is more popular and I do wonder if Grant got the idea to try to break the Supernatural record.

You cant force someone to stay who doesnt want to. I doubt they could entice Melissa to stay unless they moved production back to LA.

Well of course they can’t force anyone to stay if they don’t want to but I’m sure everyone has some price they would stay for (provided CW could afford it, but we know they can’t).

It is sad to hear the show is ending, but all good things and all...
As many, I've felt Melissa was a great Supergirl. She brought tremendous energy and likability to the show - only the show itself (except for a season or two) didn't live up to the potential she brought to the character. The last few seasons especially have just felt more hokey than serious, despite the serious nature of the stories.

And taken on a whole with the loss of Kate Kane and the dynamic they were building with Kara, it just feels like the era is coming to a close. Arrow is gone. Legends was little more than a joke. The Canaries may be in the coal mine. Flash has been getting lost in its plots, Batwoman is restarting from square one, and Black Lightning still feels like it's in a completely different universe.

Maybe the best thing to do would be to reboot the entire CW-verse! (I joke, I kid. Or do I..?)

Rather than a crossover, the Stargirl series could get its own teen version of Supergirl. Not that they'd have to wait for the Supergirl series to end, but it might simplify the marketing and licensing to wait for that.

Kara and Courtney were the same age (not counting suspended animation) in Justice League Unlimited, and they had a friendship and rivalry that worked well. Have Melissa play Kara Zor-L's mother in flashbacks, and avoid the whole issue of the mature Power Girl costume by having Kara keep the classic Supergirl look during her early hero years.

There's a way around this:

Kara's infected by orange kryptonite and is turned into a teenager, where she's played by Izabela Vidovic.

Or have her come from the new Earth-38, where she is Supergirl defending Midvale.

I would love to see a teen-Supergirl show, or Powergirl! I floated an idea a year or so past where Supergirl gets de-aged back to a teen, which meant Alex could also then play mom to her! It could also have a far longer run starting with a younger actress. Also, young adult shows just seem to have more fun , IMO.

Maybe wait until the Covid mess finally dies down and start-up a brand new show with a young Kara. I would even prefer they reboot and start completely fresh, without any ties to this Supergirl show or the entire Arrowverse. I think it has far too much baggage by now as it is.

It’s kind of already been rebooted with Crisis, given we don’t know the exact histories of everything that’s remained in the post Crisis world they can redo old characters & stories with new actors and interpretations.

Sure they can! It's all make-believe.:D Give it a year and reboot the whole thing. I don't even need any tie-ins to the Arrowverse. Stand alone and have it spawn its own 'universe.'

I really hope they find a way to write Lobo into the last season. The show runners have been trying to get him on the show since season one.

Could make for a good antagonist. Maybe Supergirl could team up with Crush too.

Personally....no thank you. This team kind of sucks at adapting characters who need "extra work" put into them. I can only imagine what'd they do to Lobo.

I meant to say can not can’t, auto correct struck again

I'd be interested in a new Supergirl show, but I don't know if they'll want to do another one too soon after this one. A Supergirl movie sounds more likely in that regard.

Either way, I'd be happy to see Supergirl moving forward in either format. If Cavil is still playing Superman, along with Gadot's Wonder Woman, and if they could get Batfleck back, I'd love to see a Girl from Krytpon adaptation!

Oh, they might find somebody who could do it better than that guy on Krypton.

Is there something different about J'onn's suit there or is that just me?

Well, once Supergirl goes off, and if I'm really not into the new Batwoman, I think that'll be it for the CW shows for me. Been a good run though!

So apparently Melissa says she's going back to work in January. And everyone else recently started filming. Now, I get filming stuff with everyone else in the meantime while she's on leave, but 3 months ahead of time??? That seems like a whole lot of Supergirl-less scenes to me. I really hope this show's final season isn't too light on its lead hero. They're not premiering 'til summer, so I don't understand why they had to start so early (even before Superman & Lois which premieres in Feb).

That is weird. That'd equate to what? 4-5 Kara-less episodes? And i assume they're shooting out of order.

Well giving them the benefit of the doubt and assuming they're also filming Kara-less scenes in episodes that otherwise will have plenty of Kara in them, it still seems like there will likely be at least 2-3 episodes without her at all, and I'm not exactly thrilled with at prospect when there are only 20 episodes of the series left. There's probably gonna be a "Supergirl goes missing" storyline or something like that. Boo.

Well I think we’re clearly gonna get a few more of those episodes where Kara is barely in it then pops up at the end for a super save.

It says that Ramsey starred as Muhammad Ali in a biopic. He doesn't look anything like him.
