Well, just what I thought it would be but in a good way. It’s a turn back the clock action bonanza that literally pulls no punches and leaves you with a giant 1980’s style grin on your face. Sure, the plot is mindless but SO WHAT? Even tacked on shallow moments that seem useless work (playground beat down of abuser) and I love that they went mostly old school with very little CGI stupidity. I even love that they didn’t fall victim to a pet peeve of mine. I hate it when a guy whips out a knife in the middle of a gun battle for no reason. Every knife used was used for a reason or in lieu of reloading. Gun battles were fierce and wild but actually not too over-the-top. I’d have to say that “guy movie” perfection was hit in the catacombs/tunnel sequence… Steven Seagal type arm snapping, Jet Li VS Ray Park clone, overwhelming action and I swear even Rocky Balboa showed up for a moment! I didn’t expect to like this film as much as I did.

I have to correct you in one spot. I'm pretty sure Ray Park is Gary Daniels' clone, not the other way around. Daniels made his debut in 1988.

I'd give this a 9/10 for now but I have to see it a few more times to decide what it's final rating is. All I have to say is this movie didn't disappoint in the least and is my favorite movie I've seen so far this Summer. The action was badass and didn't hold back at all and I couldn't help but smile throughout the entire movie, between the chemistry between all of the stars together and the action and the humor. Not one moment of boredom and it's one big adrenaline rush through and through. I can't wait for any sequels this movie gets. Stallone in my eyes is officially the savior of Action films, between this and Rambo IV, he can be counted on to direct high-quality Action films.

I got exactly what I came for... :woot:

and I just got this feeling that EVERYONES gonna want in on a potential sequel.

and perhaps Arnold and Willis with expanded roles?

I like the idea someone mentioned of Arnold putting together his own team...kinda like rivals to Sly's crew.

Won't Arnold's term as governor be over by next year? By then, he should be available for full-time filming in the sequel.

The action was great of course , I loved every second of the finale. I love how it was shot , it was grounded in reality and you could actually see things happening.
The crowd was into this an dthe humour was corny but funny enough , the funniest line was Stallone making a joke about Arnold's polictical aspirations .
There isn't alot of character development but the actors are able to make the most of their screen time . I'm seeing this again tomorow , the finale just hits you with so much awesomeness.

One thing kinds bothers me though
Lundergen hanging out with them at the end was funny but wtf?

Didn't bother me too much...he was one of them. As was discussed in the movie, he just had a serious drug problem which seem to contribute to his viciousness.

In the end, he was 'one of the boys' who just seemed to lose his way.

Yess!! His team; J.C. Van Damme, Steven Seagal, Wesley Snipes, Ray Park, Danny Trejo, Vin Diesel, and Zoe Bell!!

Now that I think about it:

Didn't Arnold pretty much mention in the movie that he had his own team? Willis' character was offering them both the job and Arnold said that aside from it being a suicide mission he (and his team) were 'busy' anyway and that he should give it to Sly.

Quick question. Can someone tell me about the speech that Mickey Rourke gives in the movie. I am going to see it Saturday but I have been hearing about it so much I need to know lol!!

Rourke's speech was good i think , he basically tells the story of how he had the chance to save a woman and turnd his back , afterwords he realized he was giving up his soul. stallone was about to give up hope on the generals daughter and the job offer but he realizes why he has to save her after this

He's haunted by something he saw in Bosnia.

Also did anyone notice Sandra mention an American who promised to send help? Had to be Church.

Thanks! That is awesome. People told me that the speech is so heartfelt and so over the top that it either deserves and Oscar or a razzie award. What do you guys think?

Anyone who says Rourke deserves a Razzie for that speech is just trolling against the film.

The speech was good , Rourke can act . I don't see how it could of been considered over the top .

Just came back from a packed theater. The movie is a good ending to what was a somewhat lackluster summer, but the movie does have some problems. Not the least of which was some of the worst CGI, that would make SyFy channel look impressive.

The movie also sufferes in that it has too much going on. Some pointless side stories with Statham's on screen romance with Charisma Carpenter.

Mickey Rourke must have done this at the same time he was filming Iron Man 2, as he's sporting the Ivan Vanko doo and goatee. His is another character that is very interesting but not very well fleshed out.

Still for the nostalgia alone the movie is worth seeing for all you 80's action junkies. The movie is at it's best when it's all out balls to the walls action, and some very humorous stuff. Statham and Stallone have great chemistry together, and they are what make you buy into the movie.

Hillarious cameo by the "Governator", the audience was busting out lol!

Was he playing himself? Don't remember if they said what his name was in the movie...

We all thought it was Trench, but Sly called him something ".. the Mouse", I'll have to wait for subtitles on the Blu Ray.

What a time to be in the Outer Banks. I probably won't be able to see TE until Monday when I get back home. It's nice to see the movie getting positive reactions from the various boards I visit though.
