The problem with these pictures, with the exception of Jean and maybe Angel, is that although they are artistic, they miss the mark . . . that is, they fail to convey the character of the X-Men (rather than simply the character of the actors).

For instance, this picture illustrates the attitude that is Wolverine

This does not

While the latter one may be more colorful, and Wolverine may be overly dramatically posed (on a barrel?!), something is off, although I can't quite pinpoint it . . . I'm just not buying into these . . . oh well, who's to say come May?

On a side note: I don't know how anyone can complain about X2's promo. pics. being airbrushed, as these have clearly been airbrushed and photoshopped to Hell and back.

On a side note to you:

Wolverine isn't a one-dimensional character. If that's what you think he is, then you haven't done your research. If all any one of these characters were about was being "fierce" or looking for a fight, we'd have no story and definately no movie.

Sorry to say, but that's a pretty poor point to make. Wolvering in that photo still looks bad-ass. He just looks reflective. Humans tend to do that at times .

That may be so, but following that logic why not have a poster of Wolverine crying or rolling around on the ground laughing . . . and simply say it works because it's displaying one of the thousands of facets of the human personality that a multi-dimensional character such as Wolverine has?

What I am trying to get at is, if I was not an avid fan of the X-Men having done my research and knowing that Wolverine is a multi-dimensional character, and I saw an individual poster of him sitting on a barrel (contemplating life?) in a movie theater, I would not be enticed to think, "Wow, X-Men 3 looks like an epic groundbreaking conclusion to a so far awesome trilogy . . . I think I'll go see that."

Besides, I was simply using a comparison between those two pictures as one example.

you won't, you'll see an individual poster of him sitting on a barrel (contemplating life?) 6' tall the side of a bus shelter.

Even better.

Very well said. I love that they used that particular picture of Logan - pensive, almost sad, but still badass in his own way. That´s how I see the character, he´s not baring his teeth and attacking people with his claws out all the time. It´s sad enough that´s the only way he´s been portrayed on comic books lately - as the stupid attack dog of the X-Men. Thanks god the movies are giving us a much more complex Logan - and that poster illustrates it wonderfully.

I think that picture is cool. Everyone is used to seeing Wolverine standing menancily with his claws out, but this photo is different. It makes me wanna see the movie ;)

If FOX's marketing strategy from previous years is anything to go by i forsee loads (and i mean loads) of different posters, banners and standees. For X1 and X2 Fox released different posters in Europe, North America, Japan etc.

So theres lots to look forward to.

Soldiers killing time before the start of the battle. Most are quiet and comptemplative whereas others are excited.

That is simply an overboard and overly simplistic comparison.

Honestly, when I first saw that pic, I thought it was a pic of Wolverine about to go into battle, readying himself for the task ahead - sort of the quiet before the storm - which, IMO at least, is always quite an epic thing to behold.

Maybe I'm reading into it too much...but odds are so are you.

And X-Boy said it was a bad one. And I'm forced to agree, honestly.

LOL, I love all this reaching everyone's doing. The complexities of Wolverine's pose, the comparisons to the Batman & Robin poster...

Really, it's quite amusing.

when i first looked at the posters, "musical" was not the first thing that came to mind. yet, now that harry said that, people just cant get it out of their heads.

harry has always been biased (for whatever reasons), but this time his agenda wasnt even subtle. notice he put up the manips before actually showing the real thing. all of those idiots on the aintitcool board saw the manips first and were already predisposed to think negatively. we saw the pics in their original forms and had more natural reactions (or as natural as fanboys can have).

the angel, phoenix, storm, and rogue posters don't have anything wrong with them. yet no one there brings that up. it's just the wolverine and beast pics that are getting the homophobic responses and so all the posters become crap as well.

oh, and did i read right? did bluefire say something nice about storm??

Oh yeah, these really look like that poster above. A whole lot like that poster above.

Firstly, I really want me one of those posters. I have the perfect empty spot in my room for them. :( And it's my 21st birthday. I'm not afraid to use that to get my way. :p

The Angel, Phoenix and Rogue posters are all absolutely stunning. The Wolverine one is nice enough too. Not sure sure about the Beast and Storm ones however. I don't like the whole sultry thing they have Storm running with, and with Beast the colouring clashes a little.

Overall however, really nice work. I hope Fox continue with this kind of promotion.

First off: I think the Phoenix posters will work very well in advertising the movie. Second, I´m curious if these posters give us any clue if these charactres will be the more important charactres of the movie. Would it mean that the charactres of Cyclops, Xavier, Magneto, are limited?

With regards to Magneto, I think we can safely say he's going to be a huge important character in the movie.

Yeah.... that was my guess, too. It's curious he doesn't have a poster.

Maybe that's what they want us to think

I can see what some people mean with references to the posters looking like Rent and Batman & Robin.. because of the lighting and contrasts and strong colours...But these are supposed to be eye-catching posters.

We've seen the teaser trailer and that wasn't a neon-lit, dayglo fest of gaudy colours; these posters are not direct cuts from the movie, they are styled advertisements.

If I had to criticise, I'd have liked the lighting in Beast's pic to be a light purple (lavender or lilac?) to bring out the blueness of his skin; and I'd have liked a blue-white lighting (like ice, snow or lightning) in Storm's pic rather than a similar yellow to the Phoenix pic. Also, the writing/stickers on the barrel in Wolverine's picture is a bit distracting and he needed a pose with more attitude - one arm raised, palm facing towards him, with the claws out. And I think Angel would look better with the wings unfolding...
